Just smoked my first salmon! #Notaeuphemism http://t.co/ybPhkq3bSj
@Simon hey hey hey there's only one unpingable person here...

@RоryMcCune The one who shall not be named?

@Simon that's Hastur

@Simon he who shall not be named
the king in yellow

6:11 PM
he scary

@Simon So's your mom.

He looks like he could use some donuts.
My poor mom.

How many immature people does it take to change a light bulb? Your mum.
5

@tylerl How about this? Nude Images Portability and Privacy Legal Enforcement - N.I.P.P.L.E?
2

@RоryMcCune 10/10
@Iszi 8/10
@Iszi What kind of music do you listen to?

6:28 PM
@Simon I don't listen to music, I make music. Beautiful music. With your mom.

Sure you do, you're my dad.

Q: I do it right? pbkdf2 and crypt(bluefish) for password hashing/storing

Gabriel AndreescuIt's been a long time since I developed a more advanced application in PHP, so my question might sound silly. I've read all day articles about Password hashing and securing a User system, after I was a bit into it I started putting it down... so what do you think? $rounds = 15; $iterations = 40...

I'm gonna shoot myself.
@Iszi You're mean.

@Simon why? As far as custom password hashing methods go, crypt(pbkdf2(password, salt)) is pretty good

@Gilles Because @Simon has a fetish for bullets.

@Simon @Iszi you walking in to that one...

@Gilles There's already a holy bible about how to properly hash, we don't need more questions.

6:52 PM
WHOA. looks like they are making a captain marvel movie now! and @TheRock is gonna be the bad guy!!

Wrong window, @AviD. You were looking for the one with the stylized bird.

heh. where do you think I saw it?

@FEichinger Didn't you know that TheRock is my nickname? Dem muscles man.

No, that's donuts.

<3 donuts

6:56 PM
@AviD The DC movies have been kinda bad though..

... Yes, exactly. That's why you don't have muscles, but the result of lots and lots of donuts.

@FEichinger Have you watched my ALS video?

@DavidFreitag LIES
@Simon true. you did lift that bucket up like a master.
LIEK DA BOSS

@AviD The new spider man movies? Supar sheet.

@DavidFreitag umm.... not dc?

6:58 PM
Man of Steel was shit, though.

@AviD Yeah I was like: "YOU AIN'T TOO HEAVY FO ME, I SHALL LIFT YOU TO DA SKY WITH THE POWA OF DONUT"

And let's not talk about Green Lantern ... Or how utterly crappy Batman v Superman is looking with the whole "NO JOKES!" plan.

Hmm. I always thought Spider Man was DC cause it was always shit and the other Marvel movies were awesome.

Personally, I prefer Spiderpig.

7:03 PM
@DavidFreitag Spider Man is shit because Columbia.

<3 Noisecontrollers.
@FEichinger Yeah, too much cocaine.

(Their tagline is "commercially successful, but of abysmal quality", I would hope.)

@FEichinger yes, that. That said, it was much better than expected, and so much better than previous superman movies.
actually I would say it was "not great". it had a lot of good elements too.

""It's not as shit as the other shit" is not a good defence.

@FEichinger "no jokes"?
I know I am counterculture, but I didnt hate GL. I can say why so many did though.
@DavidFreitag WHAT. Sam Raimi movies were fantastic.
@FEichinger no, but "it is improving on the baseline" is.

7:09 PM
@AviD Nyeh ... I can't agree with that entirely.

@FEichinger Yeah but that being said there are shits that I prefer taking. Fiery diarrhea is certainly the worst.

@AviD tl;dr: DC wants their movie universe to be dark, gritty, and serious. As opposed to Marvel's theatre of absurdity.

@AviD Boooooooring.

@RoryAlsop How's your German?

@ScottPack I'm good, thanks. But I'm also not @RoryAlsop's property.

7:12 PM
@FEichinger that's fine, but you are wrong.

@FEichinger Oo! Is there a word to describe the feeling feeling that you're going to miss somebody in the future because you know that you will eventually separate even if you don't plan to do so right now?

Fikchenflukchenfruede.

@AviD For a very small second there I thought that was actually a word.

you know it actually works. /cc @Iszi.

@AviD Isn't it Fïkchënflëkchënfrêëdë?

7:16 PM
@ScottPack ... I don't think so.

@Simon yeah.... I cant spell that.

@Simon German has no diacritics on the e or the i, you pancake.
Seriously, of all the vowels, you pick the two that don't have an umlaut?

@FEichinger You're close. More sugar and icing.

@AviD Spell? Try pronounce!
@AviD You can't be serious.

Pancakes taste good.

7:23 PM
@FEichinger Well?

7 mins ago, by FEichinger
@ScottPack ... I don't think so.
None that I could think of right now, anyway ...

Somehow I completely unregistered that message in my brain cavity.

@ScottPack This happens to me all the time!

@FEichinger C'mon, if there's schadenfreude, there's got to be something for this!

7:41 PM
@Iszi @FEichinger what's the German word, for when you want to express a complex set of emotions/activities, but there is no word for it - even though there is one for a similar, slightly more complex set?
6

@Iszi You know...he may be lying. Remember, this is German. There probably is a word it's just got so many characters that it overflows the chat window text input box.

What's the German word for craving donuts?

Heh - my technical German is okay.
Oh, I see he already said that
:-)

@Simon Hunger.

@RoryAlsop ಠ_ಠ

7:43 PM
@AviD You mean "hüngèr" right?

@Iszi Schadenfreude refers to an emotion about something happening right now.
What @ScottPack is looking for is a feeling about something in the future.
German doesn't usually have words for that.

Vorsehenscahednfreude

Yeah, they don't care about the future.

@FEichinger So, you're saying Germans are short-sighted?

I'm saying Germans are up-tight assholes with little regard to the future implications of anything they do.

7:45 PM
Knew it.

hmm, your new gravatar doesnt work well when its so small.
then again, most things don't. As @Simon knows so well.

My poor mom, she's so small.

@Simon Wow, that's what you call it? Man, we knew you were a freak but this takes it to a whole 'nother level.

Scumbag @Iszi
Says someone's the freak when he actually is

Ah, I'll go back to my face then

7:58 PM
@Simon that should be a meemee.

@AviD You're not my dad.

@AviD Most things don't work too well when they're so small.

@ScottPack iPhones.

Too small.

@ScottPack you should see the size of my one
my new OnePlusOne phone
5 and a half inches
2
Looks pretty big

I don't know where to begin the staring.

@AviD TWSS
@Simon TWSS

@Simon where you always do. on the corner like all the creepers.

8:12 PM
And after the staring, the starring?

now check your spelling.

GUAKJTFDJUGHDFGSD

heehee

@AviD :-)

@AviD HOW CAN I CHECK THE SPELLING OF AN NONEXISTENT WORD?

8:13 PM
@Simon "staring" doesnt exist?
you stared so hard you broke the word.

@AviD The term "To star a post in stackexchange chat" doesn't exist, no.

#Simon stared the word right out of existence.

.
From now on, I'll be speaking French in this chat
bonjour, i am jacques from france

You Only Live Uno

was gonna le kicke, but then I thought "naaah". besides, it was vaguely amusing.
le amuse

Also, I've just proven how fluent I am in Spanish.
So yes, it was definitely worth it.

8:38 PM
@RoryAlsop and after the scaring, the scarring

@Gilles yup, sounds like a response to @Simon ;-)

You donuts.

@Simon You Churro
(you'll understand that, with your new found Spanish, right?)
A churro, sometimes referred to as a Spanish doughnut, is a fried-dough pastry—predominantly choux—based snack. Churros are popular in Spain, France, the Philippines, Portugal, Ibero-America and the United States. There are two types of churros in Spain, one which is thin (and sometimes knotted) and the other which is long and thick (porra). They are both normally eaten for breakfast dipped in hot chocolate or café con leche. == History == The origin of churros is unclear. One theory is they were brought to Europe by the Portuguese. The Portuguese sailed for the Orient and, as they returned from...

Well of course, churros!
cough cough

Oh man it;s so nice outside. It's such a shame that autumn is starting to ruin it

9:00 PM
@DavidFreitag it's grand here. A bit dark, as it's night time, but lovely. Was a bit warm today - up over 20 degrees, but I'm driving up to Orkney tomorrow so hoping it will cool on the journey (300 miles almost due north helps)

oh I love when it cools down to 20 degrees.

@AviD really hoping for a decently cold winter again this year. It's been a few years since it last got down below -15
y'know, Subaru weather

I think you're holding your thermometer upside down.

@RoryA I'm meeting ur brother tonight apparNtly :O

9:12 PM
@LucasKauffman whereabouts? in Belgium, or are you over here?
He's a good lad. Don't challenge him to a drinking competition (you will lose)

9:27 PM
@RoryAlsop That's kind-of a given for a Scot, isn't it?

@Iszi the Belgians know a wee bit about beer too, though :-)

@RoryAlsop Beer, yes. But the Scots know more about the high-test stuff.

@Iszi mmmmm, although I must admit right now I'm drinking a lovely Kopparberg Mixed Fruit cider

So, I just learned a bit that I didn't previously know about Scotch whisky.
Never realized there were laws covering how it can be made. Essentially, everything except the balance of the ingredients appears to be pretty well regulated.
Plus, it must be aged at least 3 years and come out to between 80-190 proof.

yup - lovely Uisge

Lucas KauffmanThis is the archive for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenege Videos made by our members.

But I was very polite and declined it with a 'moderator found no evidence to support your flag'
Talking of whisky - I finally got around to writing up my tasting notes from the other week. In summary:
Lochranza Straight From The Cask, limited to 60 bottles; 52.9% - 5 stars. Big and rich, vanilla and fruit on the nose
Glen Ord, 57.3% - only 2 stars from me. Is actually nice, but coming right after the Lochranza it disappointed me
Longmorn 15yr old - 45%. 4 stars. Vannilla, honey, orange. Not bad at all - an easy drinker
Glenlossie 13yr old; 46%. Very rare. 3 stars - big tannins, barley, malt
and the Laphroaig 10yr old at 40% - nice and peaty, very warming, but I'd probably only give it 3 stars
Interestingly the host was recommending chocolates for each one, eg Choc orange with the Longmorn, Green & Blacks salt chocolate with the Laphraoig...

2 hours later…
11:28 PM
@RoryAlsop Which scotch is the incredibly smokey stuff that most people complain about? Is that Laphroaig?

@ScottPack Yeah.

I've only had it once, I wasn't a huge fan. It's not the smokiest drink I've had, but also wasn't overly peaty either.

@ScottPack then it wasnt laphroaig.
actually I have a bottle of special Talisker - Dark Storm I think its called, which is even smokier, due to the charred casks.

11:44 PM
Have you ever used the seasoning called Liquid Smoke?
