@Dɑvïd I hope you don't mind my picking your brain a little. וַיַּ֖עַל is parsed as qal-imperfect (blueletter (blueletterbible). The imperfect they say expresses an incomplete action, which I understand as an "intention". So, would it be inappropriate to give "so he decided to go up" rather than "and he went up"

@Dɑvïd Just so you don't get exasperated with my simple questions, let me explain a little more fully. The qal active participle in 2 Kings 2:23, עֹלֶ֣ה, is given in the KJV as "as he was going", so how does the qal imperfect differ? How would one translate these verbs so as to fully express in English what is happing in the Hebrew.
Is it as simple as adding "as" to the qal imperfect to get the qal active participle?
