A: Are there scriptural standards by which a hermeneutic method can be measured?

Jas 3.1The most basic standard is this: If it is true, it cannot be false. If any rule or principle can be shown to not work in some cases, then it is not a true principle. (At the very least it needs to be reworded.) Example: "If Scripture directly interprets a symbol, then that is the mea...

A: Is this site helpful?

Jas 3.1Short Answer: Yes!! The site is very helpful. As Jon Ericson indicated, the "helpfulness" is going to be different for each "group" of users, but I want to focus on one group in particular: The Interpreters This is the group of people who are actively seeking to properly interpret Scripture. ...

Go read that post, all you insecure interpreters!!
:p

@Jas31 - You sticking around here? I was just looking for Bob but I think I mistook his time zone. Should be about 9:30 your time right?

sure

@Jas31 - So wjile I got you on the line, what do you do? work at?

can you take a look at my recent questions & answers I've posted on BH?

4:31 AM
Sure Just give me a minute

@Mike Oh, sorry - I misread that. I thought you asked "what do you want to do" :p
I'm in full-time ministry, although at the very, very beginning. (Just started earlier this year.)

Ha ha - Ya what do you do for a living. I saw your layer question.
Oh good for you my wife is in full time ministry, she was a Jew when I met here. I work at an airline.

nice!

You said it was a babptist church right?

yeah, but I hesitate to say that because of all of the strange connotations... I prefer to describe it than label it - it's not what I thought of when I used to think "Baptist"
we believe in Spiritual gifts, the format is very informal and open to His leading; Sundays are more like a Bible Study than your typical church service... but the main emphases are on getting your doctrine from Scripture and following God (literally... imitating Jesus' ways, being led by the Spirit, ...)

Oh I see - Ya I do not usually asscoiate Baptist with charasmatic.

to clarify, it's far from Pentecostal... I just realized the way I described it sounded sort of Pentecostal

When I was a teenager I went to Apostolic, moved to Alliance, my wife like Baptists so went there and taught there for years, moved to various cities so always had to swich.

it's more like... we pray for healing, we acknowledge the functions of the Apostle, Prophet, etc. but it's not "charismatic" like we normally think of the word

Currently I actually go to Anglican - something I would have never imagined myself doing, but I go to the best church I can find in the city I am living in. I also teach there.

nice :)
I'm a big fan of knocking down barriers :p

4:38 AM
That's cool.
We all have to learn to enjoy unity with diversity.

yeah, it's a beautiful thing in the Kingdom... much different than the actual values of the world

Ain't that the truth. Oh Bob just arrived, I think giive me a minute.
Ah, sorry to run Jas but Bob finally arrived in another room. Anyway glad to see you around on both sites, even if we spat a bit, it only bothers me cause I have a lot of respect for you already. Cheers.

@JonEricson Check this out if you get time: hermeneutics.stackexchange.com/q/2189/529
I flagged it since it's their first post, might need to be transferred to Christianity.SE, and they need a proper greeting
