@insipidintegrator Proportional control is just the (continuous) difference of the instantaneous value from setpoint. That is noisy because it is always making some adjustment. The integral however, is a continuous analog 'sum' or 'average' of the entire data over time. So the further away the input 'average' is from the setpoint, the more compensation is given, which forces the output ever-towards zero error.

[This is not an EE question. This is more of a ME question. But maybe you've come across something like this in your travels.]
What are the techniques for sealing a small shaft like this one against water?
The purpose of this shaft is to turn a wiper that's attached directly to the shaft. The photo doesn't show the wiper.
The diameter of the shaft is somewhere between 3mm and 6mm. The rotation rate is no more than 100rpm. The pressure outside of the seal is around 10m of water.
