How did the "radio on the antenna mast" work out?

I wanted to make a sound card SDR, and at the time I got myself stuck on a few self-imposed requirements

For example, I didn't want to wind any inductors/transformers, and I thought I was going to use this Kinetis Ethernet microcontroller.
