@ScientistSmithYT we try to have mistakes like that hammered out of students by their first semester, though it often takes longer.
Knowing the difference between series and parallel is pretty fundamental.
I'm honestly at the point where I'm doubting that you're asking for help in good faith

@ThePhoton I like the drama he creates =)
@JRE Hm, put him on the ignore list? But then it won't be as fun.

Smith: "without googling it" ... the allaboutcircuits website or "google" was looked up to supplement the fundamental concept that voltage is measured in parallel ... just a blatantly disrespectful thing to say.

JRE
@ScientistSmithYT What I'd like is for you to write a complete, coherent question on the regular EE site.

@ScientistSmithYT I still don't get why you haven't ceded: "But there is another way of measuring in parallel." What is the other way? If you use an ammeter in parallel adding on (to an already complete circuit), the ammeter will short ckt...so I don't see how there is another way...
Also don't get why electricians would have masters degrees...
I knew this EE who became a PLC programmer because the job was located closest to his family...and the techs on the factory floor were called electricians...but that still begs the question (he himself wasn't under the domain of "election")
That's no slight to electricians btw. I think it's fair to say most EEs don't know how to be electricians...highly practical. Almost purely practical, maybe.

@ScientistSmithYT If you are measuring current with some cockeyed, oddball method you've come up with in which current is measured in parallel then I don't see how you can expect the same results as folks who measure it in series - as the formulas you use also assume current to be measured in series.

Can I ask circuit questions here?

JRE
@Nobodyrecognizeable Yes, but you'll get more and better answers on the regular EE site.
Chat is for off-topic stuff and just general chatter.
@ScientistSmithYT No, I don't think a private chatroom for just the two of us is a good idea. At least, not any more. Way back when you asked about the waveforms of voltage doublers, I started a chatroom for just the two of us and posted a ton of oscilloscope images. After that you were gone for so long that the private chat was frozen because of inactivity.
Nowadays, I wouldn't do that again. What ever you've got going on needs more eyes and knowledge than I've got.

@adamaero There are "Master Electricians." It is a trade designation rather than an academic degree. I don't know if Scientist Smith was referring to the tradesman designation or an academic masters degree.
And, like you said, it's not a put down to electricians for not having a degree. They go through a lot of training and have to have a lot of experience (and pass licensing board exams) to earn the "Master Electrician" title.
@adamaero: Almost forgot to include the link to background info on master electricians.

@jre thanks.

@JRE I didn't notice it was a private chat room. It showed up with the same title I see when I'm on here. For the last portion, I understand. I'll find a way to make a complete question and follow the steps on how to ask a question. I really don't see me getting an answer to my question. Because I know how hard it already is to answer. Its just not a simple 1 answer. For the sake of others I'll do them the favor of calling my ammeter as put in series and volt meter as put in parallel.
@JRE If I remember what you or someome else said correctly.
@JRE This specific Electrician wasn't a tradesman, this specific electrician went through an academic degree. He did do some trade, but he was mostly focused in academic.
@JRE I post questions and do everything on my phone. But when I post a question. Everyone tells me to use formatting. Well sometimes it doesn't show up. How do I find it when it doesnt show up?
@W5VO Can you make it clear as to what you mean when you say "I'm honestly at the point where I'm doubting that you're asking for help in good faith"? Specifically the "help in good faith part"?

JRE

@JRE I'm seeing some computer commands. But nothing for mobile. How do I do it on mobile?

Pretty much all the same. You type things in, it works. There are some shortcuts you can use on desktop, but you don't have to use them.
Oh, and scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "full site." The editor has some handy tools on the full site. The mobile version is missing the toolbar in the editor.

@JRE Oh ok. Thanks. If I do it on a computer its just literally programming right?

JRE
@ScientistSmithYT If you do it on a computer, it's just like typing except you can add formatting markers.

@JRE Ok
