Anyway, on a different note, has anyone ordered PCBs with a really big holes?
so ~20 mm or 0.75"
(It's for a manual on/off switch for the board)

@AdamUraynar If they can't drill it, they can route it. Though that might cost a bit more.

Q: How did Syncom-3 achieve eight stages of frequency doubling? I only see seven in the block diagram

uhoh@BlueCoder's nice answer to Syncom-3 was the first geostationary satellite. Anyone know of a description of the onboard electronics? mentions that the the master oscillator was doubled eight times to get to (nearly) X-band. The answer links to NASA Technical Report R-252 “Syncom Engineering Repo...

@AdamUraynar Usually not a big issue, at that size it's almost certainly routed. Getting it plated may cost extra

@W5VO . . . Interesting how the word "routed" is used for track layout as well as cutting out a portion of the board.

@Marla And I suppose if we could get the boards to suddenly flee from battle, they would have been routed again

Touche

Heh... the Viking auto-router

That would be a formidable foe. I don't know what route I would use for escape.

@AdamUraynar FWIW, one shop I use that has fairly typical capabilities, the maximum drill size is 7.11 mm.
Most shops will be willing to give you a table of the drill sizes they support.

All good stuff to know. Thanks everybody.
