Great, I'm going to have to pay more for my phone because everyone else is to stupid to realize that they aren't getting anything new in a phone (except increasing break-ability with every new phone generation) but are willing to pay a higher price

@Marla since it is only for playing around I have no idea what I am going to receive, maybe I should look oif someone made a list.
@laptop2d you can't however compare iPhone prices with other manufacturers. There you have competing cheaper models, so more of a real market. Raises overall there mostly indicate an increased value for the people, just like cars get more and more expensive because people want more from them

I guess this is out of scope for the site so I figured I'd ask in here. I'm pretty new to electronics and embedded programming and would benefit a lot from getting feedback on all levels, especially design decisions. Does anyone have suggestions for where I can find this kind of help or community?

I've found hackaday.io and the Arduino Project Hub which could work. Codereview.SE is amazing but I think they just do code.
I know that whenever I've happened talked to some knowledgeable person or professional about my little hobby projects I've learnt so much
Looking for a way to interact and get feedback, not document/publicize my project (of course that's a necessary part of it though)

@Anna, see if there are any "maker" or social collaborations in your area. If the goal is hands-on, "easy and fast" with others, that could be a good bet. Go to a "Ham Fest" and talk to people, lots of smart people there.
Insist on making actual schematics though - not fritzing diagrams - that will help you out in the long run. If you are more interested in the nitty-gritty details of why professionals make those particular decisions... well that is a combination of years of schooling and even more experience. If it's something you truly love, why not get a college degree in it? :)

@rdtsc Great idea, I'll check out if there's a makerspace close to me. The one I checked out some itme ago was pretty expensive (due to a lot of cool tools) but there's got to be more around in Stockholm. Never heard of ham fests -- seems to be more about radio? Will check it out too!

Yes, there's certainly no shortcut around years of schooling and experience, but I still think I learn a lot faster when someone can glance at my project and says "hey, why don't you do X instead?" or "did you professionals always do Y?" instead of my figuring it out after weeks of testing and googling, even
Already got a 5-year degree in mechanical engineering (which for some reason include barely any electronics), but I'm considering taking some courses in product design or some electronics project course were someone is paid to give me feedback :)

@Anna feel free to ask in here as well - as long as you don't swamp us.
Hamfests are swap-meets for people interested in amateur radio. Amateur (Ham) radio is another community of people with a long history of making their own equipment.

Thank you @W5VO! I'll drop a line here after writing up a bit!

Electronics developer kits like arduino have general purpose input/output pins so that you can connect sensors/motors/LED's etc. Does PC motherboards have similiar mechanism? Do I have to learn to write device driver myself in order to achieve such a thing?

sure, usually they have PCIe bus where you just can connect any PCIe device you want to

What kind of tech you would need to create a PCIe device at home?
