How hard do you think it would be for an undergrad to make a 50-300Ω pot?

Hmm.. big enough that a wire-wound style probably doesn't work, and small enough you couldn't do it easily with pencil lead

Trying to find out if I want to buy a Sabaj D3 DAC box ... they say it uses "Cirrus Logic CS4932 " as decoder. I first assumed as the DAC, but I can't find anything under that part number. Only CS493XX family, but those are audio codes that output digital, so an external DAC would be needed, but I can't find any mention of that...
wanted to know what dac it is, since their product specs say its 89dB SNR which seems rather low for devices of that price class, but nobody who has it complains about excessive noise

8:55 AM
I wonder if it's a mistype of cs4392

@Colin I don't think so, they claim to support 32bit/384ks/s audio

9:18 AM
The worst CS dac that I can find with 384khz is a CS43130 with a seemingly much better snr ...
ok, this is getting interesting. I found a (not really good) photo that relatively clearly shows a chip marked 4392KZZ with a cirrus logo..
that is definetly a 24bit/192khz dac ...
Maybe they are using it in DSD mode, that seems possible too-... THD+N at -20dB is -91dB then, just as their product claim
that would also explain why nobody complains about the noise since in DSD mode most of it is outside the audible range

9:40 AM
384 is only available from usb, optical is 192k, i wonder if the usb receiver SRCs before giving it to the dac
the cm6631a usb widget they use only supports up to 192kHz i2s
and no dsd by the look of it
and interestingly, the cm6631a doesn't say 384k is available on usb

at least it supports 32bit, so its nearer than the other chip, maybe they can do some shenanigans? They seem to need their own driver for 384k
reading that datasheet explains why it needs three crystals...

@Colin also I wonder what this thing is... amazon.de/…

Where I used to work I spoke to xmos, they do a lot of reference designs for usb audio
Any idea what the socketed dip 8 ti part is?

a high current capable opamp I would guess
N5532A most likely

ah yes, the description says 5532 and the customer can upgrade whcih explains the socket

Fiii e10k or the d3... Anyone can buy them and compare performance for me?
