Q: Was Danielle Aloni’s letter to Hamas voluntary or coerced?

Amir RiaziDanielle Aloni is one of the more than 200 Israeli hostages who were captured by Hamas during their attack on October 7, 2023. She and her daughter Emilia were released on November 24, 2023, as part of a temporary ceasefire deal brokered by Qatar and the United States. Around the time of her rele...

Welcome to Skeptics.SE! You say that experts have doubted the authenticity of the letter; can you provide links to some of these experts? Also, your fourth source redirects to the MSN home page and the fifth just gives me a 404 error.

@F1Krazy jpost calls it allegedly written and nypost says that her cousin calls it propaganda. Neither are great sources for an answer, but they - plus the fact that the letter sounds extremely over the top & very different from what other hostages reported - imho give enough reason to warrant a question.
@F1Krazy 'Experts' might be an overstatement. But in NY Post for example, I read: It is not clear if Danielle wrote the note of her own free will, or if she was forced to pen the gushing tribute.
You are asking a question about an individual's motivation. We have no way demonstrating that, so it is off-topic. We could ask what does Aloni herself say her motivation was - and that may take some time to surface.
@Oddthinking I believe we are asking whether or not someone did something under pressure and that in fact could be determined. In contrast to what you say, it is not at all about motivation.

@AmirRiazi: Perhaps you could paint a picture: What would an answer look like that showed that Aloni only wrote the letter because she was under pressure? What possible evidence could it cite (that isn't an interview with her in the future). What would an answer look like that showed that Aloni was not under any pressure to write the letter? What possible existing evidence might it cite? [I am accepting the false dilemma here, for illustration. but the true answer might be 'it was neither of the above' - again, what evidence might show that?]
@Oddthinking I think you have a valid point. It is very difficult to prove or disprove the pressure or lack thereof on Aloni's letter without hearing from her or others directly. However, I will add some possible sources of evidence that might support or contradict either claim to the question, I can't write it in the comments because of the character limitation.
To be clear: I am not asking you to answer the question. I am asking if the question is even answerable from hypothetical evidence that might exist. I think not, but that is an argument from personal incredulity, so I am keeping my mind open.

It seems that Hamas still holds part of her family hostage (see also here). While this may not be answerable here, I think that fact speaks for itself.
@AmirRiazi her cousin Liam Adam made a statement: "Hamas just published more propaganda of my family. .... They released a note that they say my cousin daniele wrote. In the note, she thanks them for being so gracious and kind to her and Amelia while they fucking kept her captive in a tunnel???? This is propaganda. Unfortunately I know many out there will try to use this in Hamas’ defense. Don’t believe them!”
If the only people who know if she did something under pressure are herself and the people holding/pressuring her how are we supposed to know that?

@JoeW is correct. This can't be proved by anyone except the person writing the letter, and/or those who forced her to write it, in case they really did. All others can guess, and while personally I strongly believe she was forced to do that, I can't prove. We have to wait until some point in the future where she might reveal that in interview, but alas, it might take years.
