@Lambie I think the harm is very mild in this circumstance. Finding an image online to illustrate a question, especially when you’re writing in a foreign language, and forgetting to include the url where you found it isn’t something ELL should beat up users over.
Yeah, I know a particular user relies heavily on pictures, never attributes them, and it’s an accessibility issue on top of everything else, but it’s a problem that can be corrected with editing
As a native speaker it would be easy for me to find a descriptive image to replace the unattributed one and attribute it properly
I do agree with you that the rules pretty explicitly forbid including content that the user doesn’t own the rights to and not attributing it
Colleen, when people post bits of text and sentences, the mods say what is the source? I think the same applies to pictures. If someone took my pictures and didn't attribute them to me, believe me, I would be pissed off. Just because it is fair use does not mean you don't have to attribute. Did you see the hair pictures that guy Tom posted? Some pro photographer took those image.
Those hair pictures are really cool and if I were the creator, I'd be super pissed off.
Look, this is who took the pix: hairandmakeupbysteph.com/inquire I really don't t hink it is that much trouble. Sometimes in the past, I have posted a Dictionary Definition of a word, stating the dictionary and have been told to post the link.
All you gotta do is attribute it since in the end it is free advertising for her. Everyone wants that....
