I am hoping to make a quick decision tree using the if statement in excel vba. The point is to have a message with a prompt show up and then it will take the person through the prompts based on the answers. Is this possible to do?
Sub Decision_tree()
a = MsgBox("Want To Play A Game?", 3)
If a ...
I've got 4000+ records in my Dev DB that I pulled from our Azure DB. I KNOW this code exists somewhere. I didn't enter those by hand!!!
TG wanted to close Win Explorer, FF, etc to do its update. I said sure. I then tried to be helpful and closed Win Explorer for it. Now all I've got is a black screen with one Outlook reminder and no task bar
I can connect to the machine, but no task bar or task mgr to see what's going on.
Via RDC, keyboard shortcuts to bring up the task bar are intercepted by the local host, not sent through. to the remote machine.
Sorry I always feel impolite butting into the room chat. =-) I'm having something weird; it just started yesterday. Been using RD for years and never seen this... If I record a macro in Excel VBA, RD Code Explorer won't show it, even after a refresh. But I can see it in the old VBA Project Explorer. Is there Is this a known issue..? Am I overlooking a setting..?
not so sure... I copy/pastad that code from the CR post and parsed it. It showed up in the CE without me saving it. It wasn't macro recorder code, but that shouldn't matter..
Yea that's what I thought. Historically, any recorded code shows up in CE immediately. Also, something I noticed with 2016 is I can now actually see the code as it's recording. I don't recall 2007 ever doing that. But now I can't even see new modules/procedures even showing up in CE.
Ok. Well... the answer to that was "never". But... I just rebooted and it seems ok now. I was trying to avoid that because I had a bunch of windows open, and 2016 doesn't have the Save-Workspace feature any more. It seems ok now. #smh =-/
Ok, what started it seemed utterly random, so I don't know if I could reproduce it, but I suppose it's possible. Sorry to ask a question that I was able to fix by restarting. =-S
@this oh, Shift-F2 in VBIDE, it takes you to the definition of the object under the cursor. RDC captures it and does really wonky things with your RDC window. Like Restore down and move 98% off of a visible monitor anywhere.
This is a touch distressing. I just copied 2 .def files from my work machine to the network then to my local repo. I started Access, opened the VBIDE, then told TG to Import code. It says nothing has changed.
it identifies no files on disk as needing to be loaded because they're different than what's already in the VBE
Wow it's stuck that way..! Even VBA PE is still showing the wrong module names.
err... Procedure names
Ok this is wild. There was another "Personal.xlsb" code window open in VBA with Module1, but I closed it and now it won't come back.
I think I have some research to do here to find out where things are going. I'm going to temporarily remove all my XLSB files somewhere else and see what happens. Maybe one of them is damaged.
Ok. That seems to have fixed it.
Sorry for thinking out loud into the room. I seem to be ok now.
oh jeebus. never knew that. and always wondered wth the name RubberDuck came from. our CFO was looking over my shoulder one day and asked me wth a RubberDuck was and I was like ¯_(ツ)_/¯ lol
i guess i have to get one now, but mine is going to be an official archie mcphee devil duckie =-D mcphee.com/products/devil-duckie
Omg. So embarrassed. I just realized what I did. Not seeing what I was looking directly at. I completely missed the fact that the tree was collapsed and I was confusing 'Module1' with 'Macro1'. #facepalm
Everything was right there in front of my face.
Sorry to waste everyone's time and hog the room uselessly. #shameshameshame
Interesting. It seems to be OASIS that's crashing Access when I try to change the "Import from" directory. I've tried clicking in the path box and on the folder icon and both seem to bring it all down.
I could be the extreme slowness I'm having accessing anything on the work network while I'm WFH via VPN, so I'll withhold judgement for now, but this is a smidge irritating...
(copying files at 946 bytes /sec is a bit sluggish)
@this - there may be a problem with OASIS... I just put a bandaid over the connection string issue. (It's not pretty, but I don't care right now.)
When I went to export code with OASIS, it said that there were 43 code modules to export.
I changed 1 module, and that one module was NOT selected among the 43!
(I've had it export a ton of modules because I accidentally changed the case of a variable, so I wasn't shocked.)
I initially did the big export of 43 modules assuming I'd changed a variable case and I wanted to see where it was. I went to my Source directory and it had a green TG check mark, and diff reported zero differences.
That's when I went back to the export and it flagged those same 43 w/o flagging the one changed module.
After forcing that one to export, I get the red exclamation and it shows up in the diff
Wow, @FreeMan. I feel your pain with the slow link. I'm on DSL over here but even my VPN to work is not this bad. Are you waaay out in the boonies? Are you on a satcom link or something?
My corporate network is fast so I'm seeing close to line speed on my connection. I have 80 down and I'm getting 76 down from the VPN.
Nope, I get around 100/6 via Comcrap. (Yes, that asymmetric.) I think that our corp VPN servers are being blown out of the water by having at least 10x more people using it than they scaled for.
but, depending where on the network I have to move things, I'm getting Win reporting speeds in the bytes per second range.
my 6 up is more than fast enough for my kids to stream TV/movies via Emby. Granted, they get transcoded to be more compact, but nobody's complained about quality.
Wow, I mean slow Ethernet was 10mbit back in the day. I can't imagine comcrap acting like anything less is acceptable. Usually a 100meg link has 25 up.
I'm supposed to get fiber next month. I'm not sure what they will offer me but I'm taking top tier. I'm hoping for a full symmetric gig link
our local telco has fiber to the house. They require a landline phone (and charge, of course) so it wasn't worth it when they installed. I'm considering looking at their rates again. If I can get equivalent speeds for equivalent price without massive install cost (the fiber's been run out front, but hasn't been brought into our house yet), I may make the switch
A couple weeks back, you'd helped me with this logic.
I get a recordset from our Azure Data Warehouse, then insert it into an Access local table, then retrieve it from the local table, then finally insert it into our local(ly hosted) SQL Server.
I got to thinking... why the heck am I inserting it into the Access table in the middle?
When I get the data from the local table, I join it to a couple of server-hosted tables in order to look up some values that are necessary and pass those along in the recordset to the method that inserts into the server, but there's no reason I couldn't do the join in the INSERT statement, is there?
The insert/retrieve from the Access table seems to be the slowest part of the process. Even if it weren't, removing that would definitely speed things up.
I have a question on the Assignment is not used inspection.
` With DummyDataWS Dim sourcePlayerIDTeamARange As Range Set sourcePlayerIDTeamARange = .Range(.Cells(3, 1), .Cells(50, 1)) End With With ScoringInputWS .Range(.Cells(17, 3), .Cells(64, 3)).value = sourcePlayerIDTeamARange.value End With`
Seems I am using the assignment by using the value property.
If I have Inspections grouped by inspection and select all in the FunctionReturnValueAlwaysDiscardedInspection then apply Convert to Procedure it only fixes one, not all. Is that the only way it works?
