Yeah. The first 10 seasons of the new Who were excellent. Well, there was one that I consider iffy but everyone else seems to love. The latest couple... they're just trying too hard.

a bit of tangent but I did enjoy BBC's Being Human. When I found out that there was a US based version, I couldn't get into it.
on the flip side, the UK version of Office was just a bit too out there compared to US's.
Actually, I think that once a TV show hits 10 seasons, it's done. M*A*S*H, Little House on the Prairie both ended after 10. Murdoch Mysteries is into 13 now and has been fading, as is Doctor Who

Simpsons is the exception.
20:04
I'm somewhat shocked and slightly appalled that both The Simpsons and SpongeBob are going on 20 years.
but I think that's because of the fact that the Simpsons don't age.
what?
SpongeBob's still circulating?!?
Tough question. For the vertical scroll bar the part that left click and hold to drag, what's that called?
Can't vouch for either. I quit watching the Simpsons when my oldest started repeating words he heard.
slider?
scroll thumb
Spongebob: circulating? Yes. New episodes? haven't a clue. I don't think I've ever seen more than a few short snippets of it
20:06
@FreeMan I'd trade you that for quite a few things.
it's not uncommon for a series to keep syndicating for several decades after.
Wife and daughter really enjoy the show. :sadface:
^^ Gilligan's Island much?
@IvenBach I'd settle for a simple yellow duckie. :)
See: Gilligan's Island, MASH, *Star Trek

oh yeah, syndication FTW!

The Orville is a pretty decent spoof, yet more-or-less serious take on Star Trek

@IvenBach new one just out last week: Picard
Pop Trek
Corn Trek

@IvenBach ha!
oh c'mon! Kirk karate chopping a Klingon twice his size is hilarious
so is fighting a man in green suit Gorn!
Episode of #HippiesInSpace was one of the few I've actually seen. Far far far too campy.
I keep trying, I... just don't get where all the letter writing campaigns came from back in the mid-60s to get it back on the air.
hmm. which's more campier -- ST: ToS or Batman (Adam West)
20:17
I guess it was pretty new and adventurous for back then
@this Is that like, I dunno, a terrier biting a horse? The result is a yeet?
I would think Batman is far more campy than ToS

If you leave the first and last letter of a word untouched and rearrange all the other characters everything else is near immediately readable by native speakers.

[rubberduck-vba/Rubberduck] build for commit f9326944 on unknown branch: AppVeyor build succeeded
now @Duga's gonna spam us with all the stuff she's been saving up all day because her needle was stuck?

@MathieuGuindon Not that I know of. Didn't even know there was a "stars" event
subtitle: Jaws of Jowls
@SimonForsberg could be new

@this eh?
@FreeMan There was only 25 or so messages in her queue from what I could see.
> Not sure what the remedy is here. I'm thinking it is to re-sync after updating my branch with the recently merged PRs(?). Also, this PR no longer shows up on GitHub...will re-syncing load it back into the queue?
Man, I feel like I'm shouting to be heard over Duga now! :)
SHOUT LOUDER!
21:29
@SimonForsberg no worries! It's kinda fun poking fun at her foibles. :)
@FreeMan Isn't that the usual situation around here?
@this HAHAHAHAHA
that would be a nice improvement though - "$(github_user) unstarred us. Sad!"
@SimonForsberg eh. not so much, usually...
@MathieuGuindon I'm not so sure that qualifies as "nice"... :(
21:32
meh
Now it might be possible that some messages will not be delivered here, if you miss anything, let me know. I'll try to keep track of the logs as well.
@IvenBach pretty much
keeps eyes open for missing unknown messages.
@SimonForsberg could @Duga not post a specific error message when that happens? a short one, without the stack trace (so it's not too long)... like, "Could not deliver payload to chat. @SimonForsberg you're up!"
I wonder if it'll keep up, though. It seems more often than not, buyouts leads to devaluation.
21:38
@MathieuGuindon Well, yeah, sure... but what if there's an error delivering that message? Would she then try to post a message to chat saying there was an error posting an error to chat, because there was an error posting a message to chat?
At the moment she doesn't filter out why it fails
once again, notes interesting line spacing. This time @Phrancis has a long name, but this time it overlaps milleniumbug instead of taking up width*1.5 pixels
@SimonForsberg notes 1 Infinite Loop. Hears replay of today.
@SimonForsberg the error message should be its own thing with only fail-once
but yeah that is an extra complexity
hmm, not familiar with the source at all, but presumably there's a ChatMessage class, with a RetriesAttempted property?
#MutableBad
@MathieuGuindon No such thing as RetriesAttempted property.
ha, see :)
21:41
this is the quick-fix I just did
The problem was that when I did throw Exception, the message was never removed from the SQS queue
@this I dunno... seems that folks can't get oversaturated by more of the same these days. They're on Fast and Furious 88 or something like that, and there are 20+ MCU movies currently with 4 or 5 more slated over the next 2-3 years...

@SimonForsberg makes sense, and rings a very very familiar bell (made a windows service that pulls from Shopify REST API, had a similar issue)
I think it should be possible to use a "Dead Letter Queue" in case of an error like this, but I've never dared play with that yet.
2 hours ago, by this
TBH it does annoys me a bit that hollywood is in the "let's remake original!" glut for a good while.
21:45
@this Yup.
Heck there's a new Rambo coming out for heavens sake!!!
ooo ooo, here's an original movie idea!
Failing to make a good movie
shhhhh it might be a flop
I'm done. TTFN!
hmm. might come out as a documentary rather than a movie.
later!
Nameless Executive1: We've run out of ideas.
Nameless Executive2: What do we do?
Nameless Executive3: I can't afford to be fired. I have to pay alimony for me 3 previous wives.
Nameless Executive1: I know... Remakes and Reboots.
Nameless Executive2: The Pineapples will LOVE it. Suckers for nostalgia.
Nameless Executive3: Excellent...
@FreeMan WTAF?
They've pretty much chopped it down to an assembly line.
Instead of MGM, you get McDonald's.
Warner Bros? Wendy's.
22:34
Mug. I've got a brain-tickle telling me that xltrail mentioned rubberduck. Did they ever reach out to you for any free trials?
confused Rubberduck is... free?
#Wrods. IIRC xltrail.com mentioned RD at one point. I can't recall if they ever offered any free trials to contributors.
Seems like I missed some fun there....
@IvenBach that might have been. I think there might be an Excel MVP behind that tool...
(or I'm confusing it for something else)
Before when it came up I didn't understand VC or git well enough. Now that I have more experience I'd be able to make use of it.
22:47
hm is it @Qharr behind it?
23:06
TFW it's 6PM and you gotta leave work but just realized the extent of the damage a recent change to your overnight ETL has done to the data, and know full well that tonight is going to make things worse.
disables SQL Server Agent job, leaves
@MathieuGuindon Wally would be so proud.
hm?
#REF! :)
Makes sense if you've read Dilbert comics
He's the kind of worker who works hard to avoid any extra work while ensuring that his job remains secure.
Don't worry - I'm sure we'll have a better day. :-)
so... I should pack up my laptop and work from home all evening to ensure it's fixed for tonight's run?
No no no no
#jokefail
23:10
lol
<~ easily swooshed
I can empathize with the feeling of leaving something incomplete, and when I do, I feel like Wally even though I don't want be like him.
Sorry!
eh, disabling a job to avoid further damaging the database felt like The Right Thing :)
Yep
I'll even schedule the staging package, so I have everything ready tomorrow morning
Better safe than sorry
23:16
crap, how do I schedule a job with a timestamp
can a SSIS package parameter value be GETDATE()?
can't remember, sorry. if it's just one time, just type in a timestamp?
yeah just did that :)
and I thought you had left. :)
ok, leaving now
Would you consider Wally a subset of Mort?
23:28
I don't think so.
there was a number of strips showing Wally to be very knowledgeable and skilled
It's simply that the big corp has sucked the life out of him so he's basically an empty husk
Reason being Mort is absolutely clueless Mkay. So Wally could be an Elvis. He just doesn't put forth effort.
Dilbert ran long before I was an a-dult and worked in office culture.
yeah. The funny thing is that the current comics makes me a bit sad
When I think Dilbert, I think of tie & white shirt, not polo shirt and badge
@this You're a mind reader then.
I didn't realize Dilbert was in color now.
23:45
probably a side effect of being on interweb. Color on newspaper was not exactly cheap.
but I think even back then, Sundays was in color.
