23:00
Kind of. What's up?
I figured it out. Took a bit but I finally understood it.
Glad I wasn't around then.
I feel the love.
23:20
Trying to decide what car to get. Everyone wants me to get a Chevy, but I'm sick of Chevy's :/
The Honda Accord looks nice, but I've heard I should stick with Chevy or Ford because they are American companies, so it is easier to get things fixed fast.
And I've heard they have better safety ratings and quality.
I like Fords, but my mom just hates them.
She'd be impossible to live with for a month if I got one.
I hate the Sonic, but the Cruze is OK, I guess. I love muscle cars, but they are a mite expensive if I get in an accident.
I could afford it if I knew I wouldn't get in an accident...
Then my mom says if I get one to go with the Camaro, mostly because her parents used to have one.
The Mustang is cheaper to buy and doesn't lose value as fast (according to KBB), but is more expensive to insure because backseat passengers aren't as safe as in the Camaro.
I'll probably end up going with the Cruze, but that will remind me of my pesky dad every time I drive it.
My mom likes the Sonic, but the standard has pretty horrid handling on hills.
And it's probably I'll be taking this car into the mountains sometimes unless I smash it.
@Hosch250 I never understood peoples great dislike for certain types of cars.
Get what you can afford.
@IvenBach She hates the dealership.
@IvenBach I can basically afford anything up to 25k, but I'd like to stay under 22k, and 20k would be a good price.
If it makes you feel any better I still don't own a vehicle and I'm over 30.
She didn't mind one of the Ford dealerships that is out of business now.
@IvenBach I need one because the IT jobs are on the opposite side of town.
I'm well aware of that fact.
23:27
I have a 45 minute freeway drive to work.
I rode my bike for years because I couldn't afford a vehicle.
And she had a bad experience at Ford with my dad once. She was almost breaking up with my dad, and he is horrible with money, so they got way more out of him than they should have.
How far?
I can do 16 miles easily enough, but not 30.
10 miles one way to work. 20+ miles a day.
I'd ride my bike too, if it was 10 miles away.
I agree.
23:29
I could do that in 30 minutes if I needed to.
I'd ride my unicycle to work if I didn't drop my daughter off at daycare/school in the mornings.
I can't ride those, lol.
I really liked my Ford Fusion before I traded it in for a F150 (long story.). Just my 2 cents.
I probably should bring my mom along to buy a car, but I want to buy it myself.
@shadowofsilicon Hehe, the internet says I'm a cowboy at heart and I should get a F150.
@Hosch250 Accept their advice and input. Its ultimately your choice.
Dunno about your parental situation but some Helicopter parents never thing their baby is an adult.
Even when their kids are 50...
23:31
Well, they say I'm an adult, but they like to stick their fingers in when I just want some hands-off advice.
@Hosch250 To be fair, that’s the stealership, not the manufacturer. Go to a competitor dealer if you like the product but not the sales.
Yeah, there are like two other dealerships on my way to work.
I think I'm going to ride my bike to the dealership strip one of these weekends and look them over.
You thinking about buying new or used?
Maybe pick a couple out and set up an appointment for a test drive.
Probably new, unless I decide to go with a muscle car.
@Hosch250 Make sure they see you on a bike. Get the poor-broke-college-student-pity going for you.
23:33
@IvenBach Does that help?
LOL, I'll wear my cut-off jeans that are almost in rags.
Can it really hurt?
@IvenBach If I'm looking at expensive cars, they might think I'm an eccentric millionaire.
You can always point to your bike 'That was all I can afford. I need some help give me a break.'
I'm not going to buy until the end of the year.
Ford Credit is really good if you graduated college in the last year (maybe two, I don’t remember.). I got a 1.9% APR with not-that-good credit.
23:34
Just want to take a look around. I have to save about 10k more because I spent a few on my Masters.
@shadowofsilicon I'm buying with cash.
If I don't have enough at the end of the year, I'll wait for Memorial day.
Go on the last days of the month. They are more willing to make deals then to meet quotas.
Cash? Daaammnn… lol
Same for the year end.
I think I can save almost everything now, and I take home 850 a week. Might get a raise in the next couple weeks.
@IvenBach Yeah, and at the year end, they try to clear their lot so they don't have to pay taxes on it.
@IvenBach Seriously the best time of the year to buy new.
23:36
I bet they have a limited selection, though.
@Hosch250 Be grateful for that, very grateful.
Yeah, I really am.
I don't like living at home, but it is worth it because I can save so much.
It's a sacrifice but well worth it. Save for retirement right now too.
Saving for a car, then a house, then retirement.
Delayed gratification pays better dividends than you realize.
23:37
I'm a bit of a penny pincher, except when it comes to my dog.
I think I'm going to go with Zak's suggestion. Get a reasonable price, then get them down to my preferred price by saying I'll pay that same day, then ask for a discount for paying with cash.
Cash == King.
Then get another one for paying cash without leaving the dealership to get it from the bank.
I'll tell them that most people who leave the dealership don't come back.
Maybe I'll go look at the {model} across the street.
All good tactics.
Currently, my plan is to see if I can get a Camaro for 22k or under (I think the MSRP is like 30k). Probably can't, so I'll settle for something else.
Don’t be surprised if they don’t move too far on a low-end car. Even below 30k, dealerships don’t make much more than a thousand or two on a new car sale
23:42
Yup.
Well, the Camaro is mid-end.
The low-end Sonic's and Cruze's are about 15k.
My advice on the Camaro…. If it’s not nicely equipped and/or only has a V6; don’t buy. I won’t even get them as a rental car if they aren’t an RS or SS, they’re just not that fun.
They’re not that good as a daily driver, so they might as well be fun IMHO.
How are they not fun?
They are direct competitors of the Mustang, and they certainly look flashy enough.
They’re a little underpowered with the V6.
Yeah right, our big 8-seater van handles great with a V6.
If I don't get a Camaro/Mustang, I'll end up with a 1.4 or 1.6 liter car.
And those ones are pretty much just as big.
Those Camaro's can put up a fight against the Corvette's on the racetrack (with the right driver, anyway).
Plus, IMHO, GM’s gone downhill with their low-end interiors. Too cheap and plasticy. However, I do like their mid and high-end trim levels.
@Hosch250 Those are the ones with the V8s. The V6’s? Not a chance.
23:48
@shadowofsilicon True.
@shadowofsilicon Definitely. That's why I don't want a Sonic/Cruze.
I hate the interior in those cars.
Only exception is Fords with the EcoBoost: they got their turbo’s dialed in reaaal nice.
They’re why the Taurus SHO and the Fusion Sport are at the top of my dream list.
Oh my gosh, what's wrong with this car? stillwatermotors.com/VehicleDetails/…
I could pay that in cash, but I'm awful suspicious because of the price.
@Hosch250 Again, I recommend Ford at that price range. Better at that price range lol
This one here looks like a safer car to buy: stillwatermotors.com/VehicleDetails/…
GTG have supper.
@Hosch250 No photo, eh? pass.
23:51
@shadowofsilicon Few miles away, can't hurt to look in person.
>Like a purring tiger, this 2007 2 DR Ford Mustang Coupe is waiting to pounce.
Sounds like a problem waiting to happen.
@IvenBach Yeah. Overcompensating like a executive trying to hook up with a secretary.
Hm, our Ninject setup for SC seems to be borked.
