rolfl has unfrozen this room.
Winter is coming.....

LOL
@RubberDuck that contains function is comparing the objects held in the collection and not the values held by the objects in the collection. I don't know if that is really a bug. it already compares the values of the cells, their default is empty
17:03
for some reason it wouldn't let me remove that ExitFunction: from the code, it wouldn't run after that...???? I had to undo it
17:24
@Malachi But it shouldn't raise an error if you call it with cell.value, so that is a bug.
It wouldn't run after removing the ExitFunction: label because the ErrHandler: throws control back to that label.
17:43
Hey @Mat'sMug. Any chance you can change the name? Rolfl opened this room back up for us.
18:21
@RubberDuck I removed that reference too and changed the ErrHandler to set Contains = False and then Exit Function
Working for you now?
I reverted the code back
I just got back from lunch
it works if I leave it alone and call it like this
For Each cell In Range("C3:C8056")
    If Not (e.Contains(cell, True)) Then
        columnD.Add (cell.value)
    End If
Next cell
I don't really have time to play with it right now, some people drive me nuts
But e.Contains(cell.Value) throws a type mismatch?
I haven't tried it like that again. let me try it here in a minue
that is what I get
Okay. I'll log it in the bug tracker. Thanks.
18:34
The Conditional Highlighter doesn't work right in Excel..... I picked unique and there was a duplicate.
I submitted the bug.
@Malachi I hate conditional highlighting. I mean, I love it when I can get it to work.
@RubberDuck right?!
I had to re run my query to get an updated list of Case Numbers
@RubberDuck are you and PTWales the only ones that actively work on this project?
@RubberDuck sure, what should be the new name?
@Mat'sMug VBA?
@Malachi Yes. It's just us atm.
@Mat'sMug What up?
18:46
Hard to get anyone interested in a VBA project.......
@RubberDuck I will have to take a look at it, but I don't have Office at home....
maybe if I convince Microsoft I want to work on their code they will give me a free licensed copy of 2010 or 2012 or whatever the newest one is...lol
or 2008 and 2010 because they are old....????
room topic changed to VBA: Discussions about anything VBA (and/or VB6) [no-pain-no-gain] [pushing-it] [vb6] [vba]

Conditional Highlighting works now... I deleted and inserted new data and it actually works now, at least for the first couple that I tested
@StackExchange Lucky @RubberDuck
Very nice @Malachi. =)
You do some work in VBScript, right?
@RubberDuck kind of
lol
mostly "guess"-work
That's all VBScript is..... guess work.
I've still not found a way to debug it beyond message boxes and trial/error.
19:27
@RubberDuck can you overload functions?
lol
trying to fix that issue with the cell.Value
I'm trying to decide if I'm happy with this SSIS package....
20:02
I think I might have figured out what was going on with that error
give me a couple of minutes to make sure that Excel didn't crash
now it is giving me duplicate results, like 2 case numbers the same right in a row?
running it again.
I changed it to call like this
Contains(cell.value, True)
20:18
Merging allows duplicates. You might need to call the Distinct method.
I had duplicates in one of my column C, I had to fix that.
there should not be duplicates from Column A to Column B
they should be opposites.... if that makes sense
which it does to me......
lol
@RubberDuck I don't know much about SSIS At all
no friggin clue what I did to it, but now the code is returning the wrong data
20:46
I feel bad.
why?
it worked today at one point in time!
then I started messing with it...lol
I found out why the Conditional Formatting wasn't working quite right, it was applying 3 different formattings over 3 similar areas
@Malachi When you put it that way, I don't anymore. lol
LOL
I didn't want to mess with these Case Numbers in the first place, sure it is going to boil down to clerk error or me having to rewrite the SQL for this Report, AGAIN.... ugh
but I am getting to learn a little bit about VBA
at least I am still writing code!!!!!!!
@Malachi That's how I see it too.
Looks like I have an interesting one in front of me too.
I have to build a scheduling tool soon.
Just found out.
that sounds like fun, I think
20:56
Or hell.
One or the other. I'll find out soon.
lol
I am going to see if open office spreadsheet uses something similar to VBA behind the scenes.....lol
tonight I mean
It does.
It gives you options about what language you want to use though. It basically just exposes an API to use.
@RubberDuck Nice then I can Practice and create Templates for things, (Like selling to accountants.... or..... )
BTW @RubberDuck it worked on the second sheet, so I deleted my result columns and tried it again in the first sheet and it isn't showing up right???
let me Double check my Data on this sheet
I commented on the bug report too @RubberDuck
You can use python in Open Office. It makes up for the horrible GUI.
2
Same with LibreOffice
Which, last time I checked, was better than OpenOffice but Apache got OO from Oracle so OO isn't dead anymore..
21:27
do I need to destroy variables so that they don't carry into the next run?
21:38
do you guys see something wrong with my code?
    With Sheets("FY13")
        Dim e As New Enumerable
        Dim lastARow As Integer
        lastARow = .Range("A" & .Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
        Dim lastBRow As Integer
        lastBRow = .Range("B" & .Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row

        Set e.Collection = Range("A3:A" & lastARow)
        e.Merge (Range("B3:B" & lastBRow))

        Dim cell As Range
        Dim columnD As New Enumerable
        Dim lastCRow As Integer
        lastCRow = .Range("C" & .Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row

        For Each cell In Range("C3:C" & lastCRow)
There is something wrong with that sheet! I just copied the data into another instance of Excel and ran the code and it worked!!!!!
Now I am down to only 585 cases to check for this report

1 hour later…
23:03
Nope. They get destroyed when the code stops running @Malachi.
And I don't see anything wrong. It's working now I guess. Sorry about that. I had to go pick up our pictures from the reception.
23:26
@Malachi depends on he scope of the variables. If they're at module level, they might live as long as Excel is running. If they're at class (instance) level, they live as long as the instance does.
Say what? I've never seen a
Wait... I wonder how long the default instance stays in memory.
