If we assume the def is "strings", and that "dress back" clues (+s), how about LIGATURES?

well, i come back from sleep and find out that someones been upvoting every post i've made... uhhh 800 now still low rep but way better then 400rep lol
(at least i get a silver out of it)

that's upvote spamming, not allowed on SE. it'll probably be auto-reversed

i'm not sure thats upvote spamming though. It could have been made from different people...

You'll have to wait and see if it's reversed then, I dunno. Usually when someone aggressively upvotes everything a person has made, it is flagged as upvote spam
If they allowed it then people could just make sockpuppets and upvote their own posts, hence why the rule exists

i know ive seen that before... lets just wait and see.
uhhh this is dumb i just got enthusiast and enlightened but it says i only have 1 silver...
ahh there we go it takes time for SE to register :)

hmm, another C4 idea but it seems tenuous. BARD = singer, and GABARDINE is a historical loose garment worn by Jewish men similar to a tent-dress. Not sure how the other stuff in the clue fits though.

@Sciborg I just went through your bio and realised why the borgbot puzzle was like that... Borg as in 'borg, mick as in... oh my gosh why did i not realise that earlier

FILAMENTS are strings, and that has F for female and (-t)ENT and a singer's name IAME... but there's still an L unaccounted for

12:34 AM
I.L.A.M. is a singer, so what if it's F(ILAM)ENTS?
F+ILAM+(-T)ENT + (S)
Not sure how popular the guy is, so you still might be correct about it being IAME instead
Maybe "dressed with mostly" gives us an "L" somehow?

12:48 AM
mostly would be the removal of T but yeah i don't see what "dressed in" would be doing

I don't think the basic logic questions are on-topic. They're reading comprehension and then applications of elementary logic; essentially math questions

@ChrisCudmore speaking of military earlier today, they pushed out the Rasputin dance on Fortnite today and an old friend sent me this:
Top notch safety procedures there lol

haha
also the name rasputin is prime &lit material, i wonder if someone's already done it

1:26 AM
Lol glad to inspire

2:19 AM
I have a feeling it's some sort of homophone for "woman" inside "mostly tent-dress" reversed (back), def strings

Q: Can you solve for the question marks?

C. P. Q: Ernie and the Equi-area Tetrahedra

PenguinoI enjoy spending time with Ernie when he is 'pottering' in his workshop. It is a large open-plan area filled with soldering-stations and oscilloscopes, lathes and milling machines, band-saws and drill-presses, vacuum pumps and x-ray spectrometers... If you can name a tool or piece of equipment, E...

A: Why is there a limit to the number of tags?

Robert CartainoThe truth is, no matter how many tags were allowed, there are outlier questions that the author thinks needs just one more tag. The consensus is that if you need more than five tags, you should probably look at simplifying the question. Your question may simply be too big and encompass too many ...

i don't get why there's a limit at all tbh, and that post certainly doesn't make a great case why it has to be exactly 5

5:51 AM
but obviously at least 22 people disagree so oh well

One of the guesses made since I went to bed is extremely close, and I don't know whether to give.it for that or not.
I'll hold off hinting for a short while

Q: Seven-Segment Telephone

Parcly TaxelThe ideas and concocted tools I used to solve these two puzzles allowed me to make this puzzle. Credit to TSLF for the inspiration! Light up some of the edges in the grid on the left such that the ten digit patterns on the right can be seen without rotation or flipping. The patterns include off ...

@Sciborg yeah exactly
@Jafe I've not refreshed my memory with bobble's meta link, but it always felt a little arbitrary
I think this idea may be localized to the sites where computer/programming languages/environments are much of what tags are used for. Questions about more than 5 languages are probably too broad. On softer sites that doesn't necessarily hold, eg. cooking could easily have a question which isn't too broad about safety issues with different substitutions for [salt]() in a [meat]() [sauce]() for [pasta](). Q: Unsovable by two corner displacement - how to repair

Petr PánekWithout cube disassembly we reached the condition that two neighbour corners are swapped. I know this cn not be solved. I need to exchange two neighbour corners only (the correct corners rotation can be done manually). I know it is impossible, but how to adjust to be again the solvable cube? I do...

Do you think it's time for fortnightly* topic challenges again? If so, maybe we should turn them into monthly topic challenges, given how fast the entries per topic decreased last time.

@AncientSwordRage I mean, my counter argument is that questions with more than 5 tags are becoming too broad, but there are rare cases on puzzling where an addition two or three would fit to better categorize the puzzle.

Referencing the FTC, I definitely found that having a theme prompted the creative juices, though I admit my amount of time for puzzling has been less of late. But with winter coming, I'll probably be more active.

I think it’s time for another FTC

Q: How to solve this problem on comparison with rank?

Reluctant Metallurgist6 persons A to F are standing in a row facing north. They participated in the 3 rounds of the competition viz. Round I, round II and round III. Each person finished the round I with different rank from 1st to 6th(1st being higher than 2nd which is higher than 3rd and so on) and same is true for s...

I think issue would be that only certain topics would spark inspiration, and then only if I was in the right mood/frame of mind and only then if I had time.... It's why I've not managed to take part in any of the sff reading challenges.

I don't see it as a spark for me; I see it as a challenge to write something I'm likely not familiar with.
However, I can see how others would use it to break writers block

@Tacoタコス see I'm much less likely to do that generally
Do stackizens here want/need another clue?

@AncientSwordRage I want the link again, and sure lol
Trying to assist the community solve of this puzzle.

5:14 PM
@Tacoタコス for the CCCC?

You want the link to the CCCC or a clue... Sorry I got myself confused

The link, but a clue is always nice lol

@Tacoタコス I would love to give a clue, but some of the previous guesses were so close, I'm worried it would cause unfair swoopage

Q: Two living things

Vassilis ParassidisWe are two living things. Part of one of us is a short name for another living thing. Another part of one of us is an object which many people use. Another part of one of us is a type of motion. Another part of one us is something that grows. Who are we?
