2:04 AM

2:21 AM
@Jafe m'r's' code

dr DRE is a record producer, but I have yet to see if the rest of the wordplay fits
oh i just remembered, DUA LIPA fits the enumeration, but I don't see how the wordplay fits still
Of course, I won't be surprised if the definition isn't actually "songwriter" only

4:35 AM
Hm. This may not be the fairest C4. I mean the clue is correct technically, but I see that it refers to a person for whom there's no Wikipedia page. (There should be, in my opinion, but anyway there isn't.) So I'm tempted to give an early hint already. Anyone for or against?

Okay… the definition is "Songwriter and -producer".

are we to interpret that as "songwriter and song-producer"?

6:01 AM
@juicifer yeah

7:19 AM
@msh210 hah im now going through lists of songwriters and producers with 3 letter first names, got Axl Rose (where Rose = prize?) but probably not. Will this seraching healt me anyways?

7:49 AM
pretty sure axl's in wikipedia though

@Stevo dunno how you're searching. It may well.
@Jafe this person is in Wikipedia also. I mean, mentioned there. Just doesn't have an article.

Too good to resist. Savor every moment!
Many moments.
I do. Each moment is worth.

8:20 AM
Each. I touch ground,
Sometimes a plate full of broken glass.

speaking of axl, he's touring here on the gold coast tonight with GnR... a guy i know just left to see them in concert
surely the c4 is a word for "prize" inside a word for "guy"... many options for the latter, not so much for the former
as in, not many 3-4 letter words... obv "prize" has tons of synonyms too

When i say "fuck you" i mean in the best way.
That was mixed up. 4 to 3.

prize can somehow be a noun, a verb and and an adjective (a prize pony)

!
Working on respose.
I bet on a prize ponyl

8:37 AM
anything can be an insult with the right intonation... pretty sure you can start up a fight by saying "wag yu, beefsteak!"

@Jafe it is indeed, and don't call me Shirley.

In fact, "prize" is first on the list in one of the sections of the page of WordHippo's lists of synonyms for the answer component.

Qat has failed me

@AncientSwordRage Lol I relate

@oAlt or have we failed to use Qat correctly?

3:26 PM
@msh210 A stab at and answers, so see if I'm on the right track: KAI MING = K AIM ING (Guy King)

2 hours later…
5:13 PM
@AncientSwordRage not sure whether that's the right track, but it's definitely not the right answer

@msh210 I'll pretend to nod sagely
nods sagely

@AncientSwordRage I can tell you're merely pretending

@Jafe Relatedly, can you name two words that can be nouns, verbs, adjectives, or adverbs, and which have opposite meanings as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs but are synonymous as verbs?

Q: Find the murder from a strange clue

PuzzlingFerretA dead woman is found with a scrap of paper with a strange clue that reads: decay unlucky: terrae, no oven, MBE. After deciphering the clue, you can narrow the suspects down to two individuals, who have the same weapon and profession. What about their choice of clothes reveals which of the two ...

7:20 PM
@Sphinx that was answered quicker than I'd like, but about as quickly as I had expected

7:50 PM
For the C4, consider a 3- or 4-letter word for "guy" whose first two letters are also the first two letters of a 3-letter given name.

1 hour later…
8:54 PM
@Randal'Thor if you FRONT someone you assist/BACK them, and front vs back are opposites as nouns/adjectives/adverbs?

@Jafe nice find! But I can't think of a sentence in which "front" is an adverb. Goes to check a dictionary…
… English Wiktionary, m-w.com, and dictionary.cambridge.org don't have it as an adverb.

hmm

9:09 PM
hullo

9:38 PM
how about worst, which apparently can mean "defeat" (best someone)?
wiktionary says worst can be a noun (something or someone who is the worst)
which gives me a strong urge to create a page for the word zlurb with the definition "someone or something that is the zlurb"

1 hour later…
10:53 PM
@Jafe ah, nice, that works

11:24 PM
MAN can mean "guy" and there are several first names that would fit... MAE, MAL, MAX, MAY
almost included MAO but then realised that was actually the guy's surname :P
