Q: 4 page maze ft. portals!

Bryan CI found a large 4-page maze that I made a while back. Made entirely with pen and grid paper. Here's a digitally scanned and cleaned-up version Your goal is to find a path from the start to the finish, picking up the key along the way.

Q: Balance the nails

Cotton Headed Ninnymuggins Someone I know handed me this puzzle, I have seen a couple of solutions for it that follow the instructions and donโ€™t involve bending the nails, etc. Can you figure out to balance the 6 nails on top of the stationary nail?

@oAlt Oh no! What was the exam? I hope it wasn't important.

ah no worries, I prepared for it long before (it's just a bonus opportunity to increase grade). it's an economics exam, and I have a love-hate relationship with that subject :P

Dmitry KamenetskyWhat is the most number of equilateral triangles you can form by drawing 13 points on a piece of paper? Each triangle must have 3 equal sides and pass through 3 points. Only equilateral triangles can be counted, while other triangles must be ignored. Triangles can be of different size.

CCCC: Top student, a Melbourne native, maybe getting raw deal (13)

13.. intrsting

user435118
@jafe Where did that come from?

P = quietly ("piano" in italian, abbreviated "p" in music)

oh i was at the half of my explanation lol

2:27 PM
well-spoken = articulate

epic sniping time

user435118
In case someone gets the wordplay, maybe the CCCC is VALEDICTORIAN. So far Iโ€™ve only got maybe = OR

wait, i think i know what's going on
but not fully yet
ok here we go
a melbourne native is a Victorian
and VICTORIAN consumes an anagram of DEAL
VALEDICTORIAN = V(ALED*)ICTORIAN
@jafe who will make the next c4?
daniil got the word first..

user435118
@oAlt Sounds right

@oAlt more specifically, a Melbourne native, maybe, is a Victorian, since there are Victorians from outside Melbourne (not many but some :-) )

2:42 PM
ah true

that's right
i say oAlt goes next... first to have both wp and definition correct

@jafe nice to see another top student around :-)
(even if he is getting a raw deal)
and they're both from southern ports!

3:00 PM
hahah i may have actually found that word while trying to solve your puzzle
i considered "Torquay native" instead of melbourne... too evil maybe?

epic
whoops i only have three C4 material left
CCCC: Broadcast game for two weeks (9)

user435118
@oAlt FORTNIGHT?

user435118
Kind of self explanatory

@Daniil knew this was gonna be quick LOL
correct

ah, homophone of "fortnite" which is a game

CCCC: Used to add emphasis - climax even more bright (11)

4:15 PM
@Daniil Is it perhaps HIGHLIGHTER? The definition would be "Used to add emphasis" (which almost works: the definition is an adjective rather than a noun), and the wordplay would be climax=HIGH (a noun for an adjective this time) and even more bright=LIGHTER (this one works).

I think HIGH works as a noun โ€” as in, "the highs and lows of life"

@Ankoganit Oh, right! Sorry, @Daniil, I objected in error.

user435118
@msh210 Correct, is my CCCC incorrectly made? As you said it almost works

Maybe I was wrong.

The complaint about HIGHLIGHTER being a noun is valid I think

user435118
4:28 PM
So is my CCCC 'correct'?

user435118
@Ankoganit What complaint?

Yeah, the definition doesn't work here - you could say "It's used to add emphasis", because nouns can be clued with "[he/she/it/they] [X]".
But currently you're defining a noun with an adjectival phrase, which doesn't work.
Just like you can't define SUN with "bright".

user435118
@Deusovi Ah, sorry. Other than that?

Rest of the clue is fine, though.

CCCC: Yes, air (humid) has fine, rare particles, thus circulated. (3,4,(11,11))

Sid
That enumeration...

oh gosh what is that
no doubt partly an anagram if not all of it

@msh210 THE FISH (SCHINDLERIA PRAEMATURUS) (a song(=air) by Yes, anag. of "(humid)...thus")
Totally unrelated, are C4 bans still a thing?

that felt so quick

4:50 PM
As much of a thing as they always were.

didn't even know such a song title would exist as well

Perfect, I think I have a ban-worthy candidate in mind (again, totally not in relation to this evil clue whatsoever)

hehe

@Ankoganit yep! nicely found
@Ankoganit What are those?

CCCC: Questionable piece of furniture put up next to a piece of furniture (9)

4:58 PM
(we often used to joke about banning people from writing C4s after a particularly... interesting?... clue)

Yikes. I'd better watch out.

It's okay - whatever you do, you'll probably never get the same treatment as Deus did

Oh?

BmyGuestAh, what a day, sprinkled with joy and sorrow at the same time! @Mithical Ah, right.

oh, that actually works as well
CCCC: Diver goes back, captures scene, sojourned again (9)
(I don't know why I even searched for "deba", "doub", or "dubi furniture" for that previous clue)
