I must admit I only got it with the hint. Hadn't heard of the term "mot" before. But a quick thesaurus check came back with very few three letter women, so mot + v + tion leapt out pretty quickly.

1:16 AM
I thought of MOTIVATION ages ago but thought "nope, no good, MOT doesn't mean woman and isn't a woman's name".
OED sez apparently a variation of "mort" with a similar range of meanings, which I had also never encountered, and whose etymology is unknown.

1:53 AM
("ages" for some fairly short value of "ages" :-). And, for the avoidance of doubt, I'm not claiming priority or anything -- not least because figuring out that MOT = woman is the hard bit in this clue, and it was Alconja who did that.)

3:12 AM
@Alconja that's correct, of course. Nice job!

3:25 AM
This one is slightly sketchy, but I think it's more than straight forward enough to get a pass for C4 purposes and I don't have time to build a better one. (Plus I've not been here for the last week or two and I want to carry the theme that I've apparently been missing out on...)

@Brandon_J got it thanks!

@Alconja B&E + WITCH ?

Sid
Breaking and Entering as "B&E"? That should require an indicator, no?

fairly common abbreviation, I think

There was the disclaimer beforehand - and it is a common abbreviation which is why I wrote it as I did
If anything “bewitch” is a little loose for “arrest” but I suppose it works
(And is probably what the disclaimer was actually for)

My only complaint would be "of" for connector

Well let's all just complain about alconja's shitty c4. :P
I though "of" was ok as a joiner since it's <def> [is made of] <wordplay>.

5:40 AM
Why? I think def. of wordplay is accepted

hmm alright

Figured def was ok in the sense of "the musician gave an arresting/bewitching performance"
and yeah, Break and Enter ==> B and E ==> B+E.

@Rubio I don't remember seeing it used, but then again I'm a bit rusty

the bit I figured was dodgy was that last, i.e. it's technically a double step, since the normal abbreviation is B and E, not just BE.

I had no complaint with the abbreviation :)

5:42 AM
But anyway, as I said, wasn't great, but the dodgyness wasn't too bad given how direct the rest was (plus it was on theme)

@Alconja Everything is fair as long as you arrest the woman :P

@Ankoganit :D (and since I didn't formally say it, yes that's correct)

But... Alconja didn't arrest the woman

Oh, @ Rubio for that parenthetical.
well true... it'll all depend on whether she weighs more than a duck or not

xD

5:45 AM
@Ankoganit crypticcrosswordbook.com/2013/06/05/… mentions “of” as a connector. Admittedly, neither of my Usual Sources show it, but “of” in the sense of “comes from” seems acceptable to me, and “comes from” is explicitly mentioned as a connector in that usage

@Rubio I see, fair enough

Oh curses. Now I have to find some poor woman to arrest.
CCCC: Woman I arrested after casing half Sun Trust Bank’s employees (8)

Sid
You people are hell bent on arresting a woman 👏👏

6:00 AM
In my defence, she was a witch...

6:25 AM
(I’ll tell on my c4 here; there is a word in it that can be removed entirely... though both surface and wordplay are correct with it in place. I know technically unnecessary words are kinda icky so I thought it best to point it out)
@Alconja I feel that you may be motivating a shift from merely arrest of the woman to BURN HER!

Perhaps we could employ a Persian to do the dirty work.

Perhaps

@GarethMcCaughan Why is Sun Trust=S?

2:10 PM
@GarethMcCaughan Ayup.
"Sun" = S
"Trust Bank" is an actual bank. (As is SunTrust Bank, for surface)
The word "Trust" isn't actually needed, as noted.

I see
@Rubio so the definition is Trust Bank employees?

the def is "Trust Bank's employees"

alright, makes sense

turns out that SunTrust Bank, TrustBank, and Trust Bank are all actual banks. Insofar as I can tell, "Sun Trust Bank" is not. hehe

@GarethMcCaughan Wait, no women were arrested in the making of this C4? Inconceivable!

Sorry!
I was getting a bit bored of the arrested women.
The surface of mine might suggest the possibility of an arresting woman, perhaps.
