@GarethMcCaughan EM(PATH)IC? I had to look up "emic", I wasn't familiar with that word

who but Gareth would be, lol
new one on me too, and ... well ... I kinda know a lot of words

"empathic" was the first thing I wrote down, 2 hours ago, and I only just now got around to checking out the surrounding letters. The only other word I could come up with was "sympathy", and "symy" is not a word.

Amusingly, I looked at empathic pretty much immediately also, and skipped past it after looking at endings and not seeing a word in 'em hehe

I'll wait for a while for confirmation, since it will take me a while to write another clue anyway.

1:20 AM
@EricTressler Yes! EMPATHIC is orrect. And yes, EMIC is a really obscure word, but I'm not sorry.

Sorry for the main page flood, slowly going through cleanup. Done for now :)

(I confess that I did have to look up what "emic" meant. I knew that there were contrasting terms "emic" and "etic" and that they were something humanities-ish, but that was all.)

Q: Turok Source Code Puzzle

@Sphinx I'm ... not sure this is something we want here. It's not actually a contest or competition, but working on it either requires having the OP test people's guesses and report back (and puzzles are supposed to be self-contained and solvable from what's in the puzzle posting itself, and explicitly not require interaction with OP to see if an answer is correct), or requires potential solvers to download an archive file of unknown provenance, also a pretty big no-no here.

It's too bad, in a way; if there were a convenient way to check guesses for that puzzle, it's the kind of thing I enjoy trying to solve

@EricTressler Solution to your CCCC is SH+AMBLES = SHAMBLES.

@EricTressler I left a better link in comments on that Turok puzzle and closed it. Work on that would probably be better if it weren't fragmented anyway, and much/all of the work on solving it so far seems to have happened in that reddit thread.

@GarethMcCaughan correct. I really wanted to say "Silence drifts over Babel", but I couldn't justify "over".

"Silence stalks Babel" :)

2:26 AM
Nice.
Though I'm not sure stalks = ambles

not really, no, but it's sort of in the same mind space I guess
You two just going to trade cryptics all night, then? hehe

Nah, I need to go to sleep soon (i.e., about three hours ago).
I have a nice idea for a clue but I'm not sure I can actually make it work.
(Nice in the sense of thematic elements fitting nicely together, not some Deusoviesque abomination of ingenuity)

Q: A Musical Riley

AcesInspired by the original Riley: My prefix is used on the lake My infix, an adventurer can take My suffix was worshipped by ancient hearts My whole is made of many parts

@GarethMcCaughan "Abomination of ingenuity" - I love it!

It's fitting. :)

2:34 AM
Unfortunately I don't think I can make the thing I wanted to work work.

@GarethMcCaughan MI + STRESS
MI being 3rd degree of the scale

I was going for "burn" or "cube"

Q: Bishop Wilberforce's Unsolved Riddle

Monarch WadiaThought you guys might enjoy this -- an unsolved riddle from the 1800s. Q: Dollar Auction with Perfect Logicians

Sp3000This is a crossword with an anime-themed meta. Which soft drink would complete the theme? Clues Across 1. Have ___ (lack the moves) 7. Some time ago 11. "Set phasers to ___" 15. "You just got burned!" 16. Start up, as a computer 17. Minase ("THE iDOLM@STER") or Nagase ("Kokoro Connect") 18. "...

Wow, you're just being direct about it.

Gotta give people forewarning so that they don't complain when they're stuck at /shrug
(I could probably hide more hints to make it more accessible without knowledge, but I had trouble doing so with the current grid size and I'm trying to practice not blowing up the grid size too much)

hey, I didn't mind that massive Splatoon grid
Crossword solved. Time to figure out what meta this is themed after now.
Ah, No Game No Life.
Found the characters, but I don't know enough to finish it off. D:

If you hit MAL for the relevant adaptation and look at the character images, that'll probably help

Q: Who is the hitman?

DandelionYou are an agent in the FBI and you have been assigned to another investigation. A murder has been committed in an undisclosed location and it is your job to identify the suspect. Your team has concluded that this murder was the work of a secret organization of hitmen, but you do not know much ...

5:39 AM
hey, No Game No Life, doubling no is thematic!

Speaking of metas, I've got that situation where I've had a meta(puzzle) planned, no puzzles yet, the puzzle would have worked better last month and if I don't hurry it'll probably get outdated soon. Hm.

Q: An overlapping Riley Riddle

Carl SchildkrautMy first attempt at a Riley Riddle (or, I guess, any riddle): My prefix is a limit. My suffix is quite unlit. My infix shows what's done-- but I'm afraid I don't have one. What am I?

Speaking of anime, Steins;Gate 0 started airing this week.
(if only I was good at making themed puzzles)

@Rubio Your solution is of course correct; well done.
@Sp3000 It's not as if anyone would be surprised that your knowledge-requiring meta theme had something to do with anime.

Which one?

in The Screening Room, 1 hour ago, by Mithrandir
I was forced to abandon my principles and watched Wonder before reading the book.

@Mithrandir LOL LOL LOL Wander is a good book though
Haven't got around to watch the movie yet
Mith, just out of curiosity, who do you ping more, Deusovi or Rubio when reporting spam accounts?

Rubio.

And looks like Rubio just nuked those accounts right now
Or maybe Deusovi, but doubt it since i pinged Rubio

...Rubio usually can expect a ping from me at around 10:30AM my time every day, excluding Saturday.

9:25 PM
I see

which is like 3:30am my time :)
Hello folks

Hi
I don't evem know when 10:30 am would translate for me

Because Rubio is even worse than me at sleeping.

lol

I've heard of this "sleep" thing. Intriguing concept. Sounds deathly boring though.

9:26 PM
I'm gonna be in Hawaii for the summer at June

@North ten hours from now

so @Mithrandir Did you do the welcome messages in TL for the other Mithrandir? I've been waiting for that.

I think Rubio nukes the most of them, then me, then Deusovi, then GPR.
incidentally @Rubio, since I see you're here, you owe us a C4.

Lol

Yes, I do. hm

9:27 PM
@Rubio they were inaugurated over Saturday, so I wasn't around, but I said hello

This whole time zone stuff is weird I have to say though
I was born in South Korea, which is as early as you can get
And I go to Hawaii so often its like a second home (relatives live in Hawaii) which is about as late as you can get

WHAT BLASPHEMY THOU SPEAKETH OF
(though the Star wars 7 and 8 was bad)

7 was good. 8, eh.

I liked 8 better than 7

9:36 PM
The prequels we shall not speak of.

Eh
The prequels werent bad
The 2nd movie was horrible though
The first was good. The third had no storyline so it looked like it was directed by Michael Bay
I liked Rogue One though
Disney actually decided to kill everybody

I'm... really not a movie person

The first movie was a decent film into which JarJar had been mindlessly inserted. Remove those bits and it's watchable.

Haha\
"Misa Loves you so much"
I was disappointed Qui-Gon Jinn had to die though. I liked him

(There's a fan recut which removes Jar Jar Binks entirely and resequences the film... Apparently the result is eminently watchable)

Huh

Star Wars Episode I.I: The Phantom Edit is a fan edit of the film Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, removing many elements of the original film. The purpose of the edit, according to creator Mike J. Nichols, was to make a much stronger version of The Phantom Menace based on the previous execution and philosophies of film storytelling and editing of George Lucas. The Phantom Edit was the first unauthorized re-edit of The Phantom Menace to receive major publicity and acclaim. == History == The Phantom Edit was originally circulated in Hollywood studios in 2000 and 2001, and was followed...

"Much stronger version"
I'm so hyped for Infinity War
I really liked the original Spider-Man movies with Toby Macguire. The new one, eh
Hated the Spiderman outfit in Homecoming

9:43 PM
I have a list of movies that I'd like to watch at some point, but a lot get hampered by the fact that I don't really get to watch PG-13 stuff due to younger siblings.
...that was embarrassing

I can't watch the new one. I got about 5 minutes into it and was like, um, no. It's like watching the Toby McGuire one done badly and with a much less believable actor.
Apparently a lot of people liked it. I don't see it.

They've only existed for three days.
Their email seems kinda legit though.

I am probably conflating them and our drone friend. They seem similar. I'm not acting on either, yet.

Yeah, I'm not nuking them at the moment either.
Although if something trips my filters multiple times like that it probably means I'm not missing much, since I'm going back and looking at the old stuff too ;)

Yep that guy's a spammer, it looks like that account is a user in every single friggin stackexchange community out there, all inactive, with 1 rep
I'm no mod, but that seems suspicious

With no other markers, we generally let them go until (unless) they actually do something
