@ASCII-only I've been trying to understand Hexagony, and in here it says EOF=0 but in here it says EOF=1. Which one is it now?
(I would ask MartinEnder directly but don't want to breach chattiquette on the 19th byte)

5:04 AM
@boboquack in such cases you can refer to the language specification: github.com/m-ender/hexagony
I've never programmed in hexagony but it appears the value of EOF changes depending on whether you read with , or ?

uwnojpjm(づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ $\hspace{0.5cm}$Hi, I'm Bob. $\hspace{1cm}$ ᕙ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ᕗ $\hspace{1.4cm}$ Hi, I'm Pat. If no less than one person lied, then who is who?

Why do they think PSE is a good place for them?

I have absolutely no idea.
It's not even relevant to the topic of the site.
Whee, I got @Bobo hooked on nuking users ;P

:D

@Mithrandir Have you seen this?

7:27 AM
because so many people on PSE are huge sports fans
makes so much sense

@Rubio wow. That is some first rate analysis.
I almost feel like posting that on Lit.

I found that on some Bombadil related question on SFF, I believe

But that comment about Fangorn does poke a hole in the theory.
And, again, Mirkwood.
Both of which are - coincidentally - forests. That have a reputation for being dark and evil.
But they both have something good inside - the Ents and the Elves, respectively.
And even Lothlorien doesn't have a great reputation among Men and the like.
I don't think that creatures in Middle-earth are so fond of forests in general.

7:42 AM
Still, it's a remarkably amusing and well-thought-out piece

Yes, it is.
But it's still got holes ;)
Hey, @ffao, it's Monday

only technically

It's been Monday for nearly 11 hours on my end
And technically correct is the best kind of correct ;)

nearly 18 hours here in upside down land

17.75 here

It is a holiday around these parts. Actually an extended weekend. 12-15 Aug.

9:07 AM
@boboquack oh yeah about the Hexagony thing: sorry i didn't see the notification for some reason lol

That's alright.

9:22 AM
Grats @Deusovi and @stacksfiller
Well deserved

Sid
Ah, they reached 100 upvotes. That should rise even more.

Not much more - it is off HNQ now
We need to get this to 140 upvotes. — Beastly Gerbil 21 hours ago
Doesn't look like its going to get quite that high :P

Sid
Get @stacksfiller to do a write-up.

9:38 AM
You mean like a 'the making of'?
I would like to see one of those - its a fantastic puzzle

+2

10:01 AM
I can't help but still feel weirded out by HNQ
sure, the 140 character puzzle was great, but some of stacksfiller's other puzzles also were, for example, and they have one tenth the upvote count

I don't see how the HNQ questions are chosen benefit any SE site
They just seem to promote questions that have trivial answers
And yeah, congrats guys

@Wen1now Yes they do :| maybe a feature request to change the HNQ would be a good idea?

You might get some opposition from fellow PPCGers
the current algorithm suits PPCG quite nicely because of its bias to answers

Huh?

@boboquack Maybe, but I'm sure most would agree that the trivial answers get upvoted way too much

Q: How hard is too hard?

uwnojpjmI want to develop a difficult--but also fun and memorable--puzzle, but I'm not sure how hard is too hard. I don't want to post it and everyone just think it's "confusing." You know, Einstein once said “If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't understand it yourself.” I believe...

Q: A man is born in 1955

JohnyNich(I heard this in a movie and I think it's pretty cool). A man is born in 1955. Today, the 14th of August 2017, he is 18. How is this possible?

I guess "just" is fluff, then?

1:36 PM
How much fluff is allowed?

"one" would also be fluff in that case. Imo, fluff inside the definition should be fine assuming it does not change the definition.

Q: Calculate the time takes to fill a leak tank by a leak bucket

savIt takes 2 minutes to get water from a well but the bucket has a hole 500 ml is wasted while water is taking from the well ( capacity of the bucket is 3 liters). A tank is going to be filled by that bucket. The tank also has a hole so 500 ml of water leaks from the for each minute. How long it will...

Sid
@sphinx looks like vtc material.

As math homework?

Sid
Believe so. And the puzzle is underspecified anyway

3:10 PM
@Sp3000 all of "just one part" was intended to be the def as just "part" didn't seem quite enough to me. But yes that is of course it.

Q: The wizened mathematician

Paul RichardsOnce I walked up a hill, and on the summit sat a very old man cross-legged, calmly taking the air and observing the view below. I asked him if he was alone and he said: "No. I have five cousins who are coming up after me. What is interesting about them superficially is that if you take their ...

is it welcome to up/downvote based on what types of puzzles I like?

Not really. If you go downvote every riddle because you don't like them it's not okay. I guess you could go upvote the types you like

9:11 PM
Wooot! Finally solved the braille star puzzle
(Thanks @ffao for seeing it first :) )
(Writing it up now)

@Rubio L[P] was meaaaan :P

the hint was really big, to be fair

wait hold on...

the middle of the 12 letters doesn't make sense to me either, if that's what you're finding weird

JULY # DZODIC?... how have I got that... I just had 'zodiac a minute ago'....

9:14 PM
@JohnDvorak I don't think that you should downvote every question just because it's a Sudoku question; vote on the quality of the puzzle itself within the bounds of the puzzle type it is

CCCC: Gabriel perhaps stripped following the lead of Chuck Berry for dare (9)

LP was mean :) but fair. And yeah I gave a big hint.

it's JULY #D ZODIAC
the #D is what I don't get, but clearly ZODIAC is not a coincidence

what does #d mean?
I'm assuming the final answer is CANCER anyway...
oooh...
maybe it means 'Number d' = Day 4?

Let's say I find out that all of the math-riddles seem more like homework than a puzzle. Is it a legitimate reason to officially dislike them en-masse (each separately, ofc)?

9:16 PM
So the zodiac of independence day?

All of them? That's blatantly false.

All of them so far, out of a sample size of 1.

@JohnDvorak as has already been said by others, you rate the individual post, not its subject or style or content or user. Nobody can stop you from voting however you want but if you start showing unusual voting patterns that is something that can be reversed as irregular voting.
And in any case it is definitely not in keeping with the SE model to vote that way ....

@ffao just checking with you... the zodiac doesn't have an a in it does it?

the letters I got were those 12

9:21 PM
ah I'm missing libra in the picture I'm working off...

is voting based on tags counted as a voting irregularity? I'm surprised...
(not saying I plan to do it; just curious at this point)

@Sp3000 C+ HALLE + -aNGE-l

@JohnDvorak it's definitely discouraged, but I don't know if that's reversible per se.

where does HALLE come from?

Halle berry

9:25 PM
...oh, that's how it's spelt, huh

And of course, yup

On mobile so I'll post a new one when I get back home
Some nice misdirection in that one :)

Sid
How do you get Angel?

Gabriel, perhaps = angel

Gabriel is an angel.

9:28 PM
specifically the one that talked to Mary just before she got pregnant.

An archangel actually which had me going ina differentt direction for a bit :)

allegedly

@Sconibulus it's documented in the Bible

Too much CH in that one hehehe

Objection your honor, Hearsay
There is only circumstantial evidence placing my client at the scene of the conception

9:30 PM
Oh let's not go there please :)

I move that the charges be vacated, and my client's child support be obviated

Objection rejected. We consider Bible a historical document. Would you like to raise name coincidence as your objection?
Furthermore, defendant does not seek child support. He was merely delivering ... news ... to the mother.

oh... then why do I have a client?

Sid
@JohnDvorak I am interested to know what they talked about. If that is written somewhere, that is.

walks away

9:32 PM
I'm reminded vaguely of some remarkably ... senseless ... real filings I've read of people attempting to literally sue God in court.

@Sid anyway. For this, try the Gospel of Luke, chapter 2

@Sconibulus Gabriel told Mary she would have a baby with God, and she should name him Jesus. Then John got a prophetic dream telling me the same, so that he would be willing to marry Mary.
plus some lore about Jesus's life.

Oops. Chapter 1 actually - the latter part thereof.

I was just playing around with Luke says Mary says Gabriel says telephone... clear hearsay

9:36 PM
oh

Sid
@Rubio too lazy. :P

wasn't trying to do anything other than have a little bit of fun by pretending I was doing a court thing

@JohnDvorak and you mean Joseph here not John :)

right. Sorry.
@Sconibulus did I play along well?

9:43 PM
They still lack the New World Translation :-(

9:59 PM
Heh. Never noticed - they have just about everything else they could get rights to

10:13 PM
My impression is that the New World Translation is regarded by pretty much everyone other than Jehovah's Witnesses as a bad one. And my impression is that Jehovah's Witnesses are generally discouraged from consulting other translations. (I'm not sure where that impression comes from, though, so it might be wrong.) In which case, there's not much value in adding the NWT to a multiple-Bible-translations website.

CCCC: Dedicated to rapidly move around uplifting drug? (11)

SPE(CIALIS)ED?
Cialis is apparently a thing
Oh it's for erectile dysfunction, I see

indeed.
Let me have my fun with uplifting. :)

No comment :P (but I find it amusing that that's drug around drug)

Yeah - I wanted to use that but couldn't squeeze it all in

CCCC: Regarding potentially common solution to an archived minipuzzle?? (2, 4)

2,4 and not (say) 2-4 right?

I think you might enumerate is as (2 4) but yeah space in between, not hyphen or similar

11:09 PM
I don't like this cc :)
it's hurting my noggin

The double question marks are not a good sign.

11:53 PM
What does double question mark mean?

It means that the clue is a really weak fit.

hmm
Well, I'm going to be useless no matter what
