12:50 AM
"Adults are safer eating children than laundry pods, NBC News seems to report"

excellent. except that actually all it says is that more adults die eating laundry pods than die eating children, which is probably true

Q: Is/Was/Will it be alright?

n_palumIn other news I'm drawing again. No, you can't have transcriptions. I didn't redo my big drawing puzzle yet so the doodles are what I've been doing.

2:00 AM
@n_palum Seeing that ^, seriously: are you OK?
I mean, you just posted a puzzle that appears to say THE HURT DOESN'T LAST followed by a picture of hands dripping blood.

@GarethMcCaughan Yeah I'm okay - if it's not an appropriate art style for here I'll take it down no problem

no, that's fine. I just wanted to check that it was actually a puzzle and not a suicide note.

Yeah, it honestly worried me too.

:/ Sorry

No need to apologize! We're just happy to talk if you need anything.

2:05 AM
incidentally, if the solution is simply that it says THE HURT DOESN'T LAST then I guess I should post an answer, but I'm guessing there's something more obscure going on?

My drawings come from a lot of different places in my head which can really vary based on a mood
@GarethMcCaughan That's just a bit to it, not a full solution

The image descriptions are all "responses" to the images but the last one, which is... 92NER8U?

@Deusovi While I appreciate the thought, talking through things is not at all my forte

@n_palum Fair enough! I sincerely hope you feel better soon though.

2:09 AM
@Deusovi I never said the puzzle was all that hard.. just turning my doodles into "puzzles"

...Wait, is 92NER8U the answer?
It's not really clear what "form" the answer will take, so to speak.

@Deusovi I would comment, but not here
@Deusovi no it's not the answer

it's an imgur link

2:25 AM

did you brute-force the upper/lower case choices or was there some indication of which was which?

i don't know if there's any indication, i just guessed. got it right on my second try

2:57 AM
Great leapin lizards that's a dark puzzle

Seems to have a positive tone to the answer, at least

OakI'm usually born in the heat, I also guarantee that my lineage is at least as old as yours. I have so many cousins, some are brown, others are white. We're all so different. 3:16 AM
[squints at paragraph 4]

@acrolith That's probably the answer - post it!

Sid
3:45 AM
@n_palum are you alright? These type of dark things scare me.

thumbs up

Sid
4:06 AM
@Rubio Ah, so, you changed your avatar to a picture of yourself? :P

I did. :)
This is for @n_palum of course.

For me?

Finding dogs with diet coke? Like falling off a log. Finding dogs with Diet Coke with Lime - now that's a challenge.
@n_palum That's what i had done earlier today but it didn't propagate for a while unfortunately

Oh I see

I found this in Google Image Search, and asked the photographer for permission to use it. hehe

4:09 AM
I applause the effort and am flattered you went through all that effort

Sid
Also, is that the answer, @n_palum?

Da

Sid
How were we supposed to know the uppercase and lowercase letters? Just guess?

Mhm
It's not terribly hard
Should be some indicator such and such but meh
I'm not goin' for gold here

4:26 AM
criminy. just did ye olde scrollback. @n_palum you have a talent for both sketchwork and evocative expression. I'm relieved you're ok, because ... like ... yeah.

Uh I think thank you?

I don't suppose some non-mod type would like to edit a certain word in that, perhaps "cigar" would be a better choice
I feel like there should be something better than that even, but I can't think of anything

4:44 AM
shrug

cheroot? meh

french swords

4:56 AM
@GarethMcCaughan , why do I waste keystrokes elsewhere?
This is the place I try to spark others to echo.
@n_palum , why do I wastefully cross swords elsewhere?
No need to answer, just a rhetorical relief from cross words.

5:11 AM
Why cross swords at all

It's 100 degrees (not Celsius) here at 10pm
Something's gotta give.
Maybe decimal. Now I'm resetting the thermostat to octal.
144?! That didn't work out as intended. Not going anywhere near binary at this rate.
Maybe base -1.
@n_palum , when you're right you're right. You're right!

CC but not CCCC: Zero Celsius begins freezing! (??)

A but not an A: hAhAhA
. ? (point no zero after another ....?)
Thank you for the moment in any case, Rubio, magic lamp.

5:32 AM
@humn it'll be 95 here with thunderstorms

Where? I'm moving there. Here's Pacific coast of norte america.
(somewhere near San Jose', California)
i'm changing my name to nosy.

@humn I'm Eastern coast

Different weather every hour, according to my source in New Jersey.
Here we seem to strive for another 10 years of drought.

Sid
@Rubio what's the answer to that CC?
Huh, I actually didn't think that US has a temperature of close to 40 degrees Celsius

it's "0C" . (lol)

Sid
5:40 AM
lol.

Best C yet!

Sid
I kept wondering what OC was and then gave up

I'm sure that's illegal so many ways it's not even funny, but ... well ... it's funny

:( I'm failing to see what the cryptic aspect of it is

@humn I'm originally from near there... The weather is much more bipolar in upstate New York

5:43 AM
Enjoying the snow?
I've visited Rochester (Rottenchester to some natives, at times, Ratchester in my honor at others) at the best of times as well as the worst.

:O that's exactly where I am
I do enjoy it, the wind is insane though
I can handle 0 degrees but when it's a -30 wind chill, no thanks

My favorite part was how it only takes a week for drivers to forget how to on snow.
This was before YouTube but just as reliable. Had I been in the driver's seat I would have died laughing.

Sid
-30??
That is.... so cold.

Come to think of it, this is midwinter for some of us.
Not obvious from watching the walls peel at the moment.

@Sp3000 I didn't even pretend it was a good cryptic. Or much of a cryptic at all. :)

5:54 AM
-20 points for Rubio :P

But "Zero" gives O. Celsius beginning gives C. Freezing is def. And really, the entire thing is also def, so meh.
New puzzle posted, though. Maybe that will redeem me. (Maybe not.)

That one begins so chessy and goes through Egyptian before landing Latin. What a romp!

@humn oh dear that sounds fun

Q: I am. Who am I?

Rubio I am. I am a king with a castle but seldom a crown. I am able, with but a single step, to assemble the peoples unto me. I am, with a change of heart, beginning to be softer. Give me an endless jet and make me soar. Even when I have a rough start, I'll go the distance and then some...

^ that one

6:00 AM
@humn What words of humnshly wisdom have you for us today?

I went out in search of something new and came home in the same old shape.
Hit and miss.

You struck a young lady?!

Home run for you!

Sid
Isn't that supposed to be bad?

Ejected from Six Flags. (or... out of the park!)

6:03 AM
When it's only words . . .

Zero as wordplay for 0? o_O

@humn You inspire (the weird in) me.
9 mins ago, by Rubio
@Sp3000 I didn't even pretend it was a good cryptic. Or much of a cryptic at all. :)
It was intentionally awful :)

You did that on purpose.

Porpoises?
They found a two headed porpoise
They as in someone who apparently finds porpoises

I see, in "CC" but not "CCCC", CC must mean "Clue Chat"

6:05 AM
Just gave me an idea, @n_palum, i'm gonna get arrested for doing something on a porpoise.

I'm chock full of ideas, take them all, I don't want em
Oh good idea

One cutting edge aquarium saved a lot of money when its owner discovered a means to make the dolphins live forever -- since the dolphins never died, no money needed to be spent on buying new ones. Extending the dolphins' lives required putting a special mixture into their food; one of the ingredients was baby sea gull meat. So one day, one of the workers was sent to the beach to find some. On the way back, baby sea gulls in hand, he had to pass through a forest. In the middle of the path was a sleeping lion. He very carefully stepped over it, only to be handcuffed by a policeman.

Sid
The Archive needs to be updated.

(i'm laughing too hard to make it to a cold shower. it somehow reached 102 by now)

Ride the porpoise into battle on purpose for possibly the most profound charge ever led by porpoises

6:07 AM
lingua! keystrokes! intrepida!

Cuando?

Nunca!

Lo siento senor taco
🌮 🌮 nom nom
frantically waves hands around signing at the screen

Thank you for the breeze!

why can't you understand me - flails hands more

6:09 AM
My screen doesn't understand me either.

@humn no AC? No fans?

Time for the fan, you're right. (No AC)

Poor humndinger

I've seen worse! I've been worse.

Agreed

6:13 AM
Some men just want to watch themselves burn.

Im never here this late... I should be away, attempting to sleep
@Rubio Mastah Wayne?

Sid
@n_palum How late?

Never too late (speaking as someone who woke up at 4pm)

@Sid 2:13 a.m

I think I have only seen 100F+ in my hometown twice in my life

6:14 AM
It's only 2am. The night is young.

I thought you were an hour behind me?

I meant for you.

Sid
That is... late if you have to wake up early in the morning..

Ahhh.. no my night ended 😂

4pm in the morning!

Sid
6:15 AM
Else, be like Sp3k and get up at noon. :P

@humn lol.

It began at 630, went until 12, and I'm quite tired
But sometimes the mind prefers to stay up

Minds are like matter.

I've had weeks that were 3 days long.

They don't a whole lot.

6:15 AM
I can't sleep in that long..habit from waking up at 630 for work..
@Rubio weeks? Hmmm?

I wish my mind were that disciplined. Sometimes I sleep in even when I have work

This planet was not formed for restful minds.

I wouldn't call it discipline

And I have no recollection of hearing my alarm clock afterwards, even though I set three of them

wake up Monday morning, go to bed evening Tuesday. Wake up Wednesday mid-day, go to bed early a.m. Friday. Get up mid-day Friday, go to bed early a.m. Sunday. sleep through Sunday. Rinse. Repeat.

Sid
6:17 AM
@ffao At intervals of 5 minutes?

10 minutes

@ffao Alarm 1, being smacked by girlfriend, 2nd alarm, pushed out of the bed as last resort

(Still laughing too hard to make it to the shower)

@Rubio how?!
@humn share the giggles, what's tickled your fancy?

My mouse cannot click on every strip here! Each one tops the last.

6:19 AM
Click clack Patty whack

dot it with a T

youtube.com/watch?v=_jxl49iMaaQ this is your next alarm clock, @n_palum
@n_palum click clack? I've heard tic-tac ...
@n_palum I didn't say it was a good idea but ... it happened. on a number of occasions.

Sounds miserable
I function so poorly on little sleep

Sid
I can vouch that is possible.

A frog goes into a bank, and hops up on the desk of the loan officer. ''Hi,'' he croaks.''What's your name?''
The loan officer says, ''My name is John Paddywack. May I help you?''
''Yeah,'' says the frog. ''I'd like to borrow some money.''
The loan officer finds this a little odd, but gets out a form. ''Okay, what's your name?''
The frog replies, ''Kermit Jagger.''
''Really?'' says the loan officer. ''Any relation to Mick Jagger?''
''Yeah, he's my dad.''
''Hmmm,'' says the loan officer. ''Do you have any collateral?''

Sid
6:22 AM
I have gone 48 hours without sleep.

(editor's note: "function" = "malfunction")

I've gone long time without sleep

@Sid My unwilling record is in the low 50s

But the manifestations in the inner mind aren't worth it
@Rubio I will never chase an alarm clock, I'd sooner switch my gym time to the a.m than do that

I'm changing my name to White Rabbt

Sid
6:25 AM
and then, slept for 12 hours straight.

@n_palum Nice art! The choice of colors and the sketch work is really good! +1

@humn I'm changing mine to guacamole
@Techidiot hmm well thank you techi

link?

Still unsure if it'll stay, the style scared some which I don't wanna do
I try not to be a bother

Always worth a try! And more often enjoyable without a side order of success.

I think it's fine @n_palum

If you say it is, than I shall assume the role of guacamole
Please don't eat me with chips

The guacamole the merrier!

I pretty much never eat guacamole. I don't much care for it.

The molier?

6:30 AM
So you're safe. :)

I don't either but if the public demands a guacamole puzzler then they shall have it

i dunno. You've got the lime but not the salt.

I don't even have the fortitu.... too many letters.

Im not a tequila guy

(I guess that would work better on a brit, come to think of it)

Sid
6:32 AM
So... Guacamole is basically salad..

Sure.

Oh but aye dios mio was I introduced to the most splendid concoction of cherry rum 🍒
@Rubio are you calling all Brits salty?

Like, a stuffed pepper is basically a chip dip inside a chile

I like peanut butter.

Guacamole is basically salad inside avocado mash.

6:33 AM
That's my outdoor cat's new name.

@humn I love peanut butter

@n_palum No. I was calling them limey. Silly.

@Rubio everytime I try to make one it just turns to a meat and pepper mash of stuff
@Rubio slimey?

@Rubio , You were elected from the silly party in a landslide.

Slithy?
@humn More of a mudslide, but sure.

6:34 AM
The slithy silly partyt
Mudslide, tacoslide, same difference

downslide, upslide all around the slide

Uhoh. Hide.

Sid
@Rubio I don't understand the discovery of offons puzzle. How did you get the correct question? (Technically, the correct answer)

@Mithrandir is here.

6:37 AM
@Sid I'm honestly not sure there's a "right" answer. Nothing in the puzzle points to one. So I just made one up that has the relevant trait in its wording, and could plausibly be answered "offon".

I guess I should be heading away anyway for the day or night what have you

@Rubio *looks in slowly*

"outside" being where the r's are, and offon being a way to do the reset. heh
@n_palum have a restful night, and see you anon.
(@n_palum is Anonymous - confirmed)

you'll be rewarded for further dastardly deeds, given the chance

If(!tired) {carryOnward;} else passOut;

6:39 AM
Nah. passing out is bad. sleeping is good.

Nice distinction.

What's the difference?

One is much healthier for you though.

I associate passing out with 3 things I guezzzz

Bridge?

6:40 AM
@Rubio why's that?

Sid
Sleep is voluntary. Passing out is involuntary.

@humn I prefer poker or euchre

2 mins ago, by Rubio
@n_palum have a restful night, and see you anon.
^ I called you anon. sort of.

Oh! But you're the anonymous lime dog
Wait.. shouldn't you 🐝 the salty lime one.. not he British

I'm not salty, thank you

6:41 AM
@Sid both involve your body going to rest though, no?

Sid
Apparently, today is Father's day..

@Rubio but the lime coke

Sid
Yeah, @n_palum that is right..

@n_palum You'd probably be surprised. Passing out is ... not particularly restful in the way your body and mind need rest.

It is & I have to call my parental unit

6:42 AM
@n_palum I'd recommend waiting several hours. Lol

@Rubio hmm I guess so
I'll wait many a hours... I sent him a shirt that says "The Dogfather"

I need to set myself a reminder to switch back avatars at some point
Nice

I gave my mom one that says "Dog Mom AF"

woof!

Oh, last comment on the passing out thing, imo, it's sometimes necessary
And with that I bid you adieu

6:45 AM
Night night.

I'd like to pass out on purpose one of these times. Not on a porpoise yet again.

not even an immortal porpoise?

Sid
I still don't understand why passing out is necessary.

when you're a dealer with too many cards . . .

Sid
@Techi Today is the finals.

6:46 AM
Legit

@Sid then you've got a peaceful mind, cherish it young one

... "at heart" ... that would've made sense in person.

Sid
I wouldn't call it peaceful. It just isn't terribly tensed yet as to pass out..

Dear diary! Thank you for candor. Meant sincerely, thank you and more power to you.
(A little more repetitive than remembered, nice video version in any case)

7:09 AM
I pity you, @Rubio.
You appear to have been attacked and eaten.

Is that so?

What a fun game of hide and seek. Perfect for Puzzling.

but I'm a dog, who likes diet coke w/lime. or so the rumor goes. so I'm not being attacked and eaten.

Arf!

7:14 AM
I have, however, given the attack-and-eaten treatment to ye olde spammer.

Some dogs would wolf you down.
Bow wow wow.

Who let the wolves out? (Who? Who, who?)

Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Oops, save that for the next full mooooooooooooooooooon.
Has it been more than a day since I plopped this one with barking?:

Sid
I was watching a baseball game today. And I am a bit confused on the rules
If the ball hits the runner, he is out?

Sid
7:17 AM
And fielder(Or Catcher) can try to hit the runner with the ball?

The hit-by-throw-or-batted-ball rule is extremely touchy.
If the runner lets on that they are trying to influence the play, they're out.

Sid
Eh, what?
Can you elaborate?

When there's doubt, it's up to the refs/umps.

@Sid All set for the day! Expecting it to be a good one rather than being a one sided again

@Sid if the runner is tagged by the ball, in the glove, he's out.

Sid
7:20 AM
I really really want it to be a last-ball thriller.

You just want someone to be hit by a ball instead of the other way round.
Arm bites dog.

'hit by the ball' and 'tagged by the ball' are different things.

^ yes, and hanky-panky is usually called an out.
When a fielder throws the ball at a runner, it's called safe every time.
The "out" version is called "interference."
How did my inner baseball fan get tugged out here?

Q: Secret message on my friend's computer's screen

Jamal SenjayaMy friend suddenly left the office today. He left his computer on carelessly. On the screen, I can see a message. The message on the screen: Counts n, key at, old er, handphon A, secret m, you se, So i, puzzling u, Go on, great and, powerful on, the go, Dear u, Do a, greater and, big...

8:07 AM
Fortunately baseball, like all sports, even Puzzling in a way, is nonsense at its best.
(what happened to the paragraph that preceded that nonsense?)

8:24 AM
Didn't make it half out the door earlier before remembering this gem.
It's from a meeting where the topic was earthquakes.
Someone told about the big quake, a decade or so earlier, that hit while they were taking a shower.
Everyone ran out to the street, the safest place even though the pavement was still undulating, but this person with only a towel.
This person shouted, "Don't worry, I'm a geologist!"
(Oooopsoooopsoops, that was supposed to go to Literature SE. What the hell, there's so much crossover nobody will notice.)

...Is that a joke? I see neither the humor nor humour in it.

I thought it was one of the best stories I've heard. Maybe I didn't retell it well.
There's no humr in an earthquake, adimittedly.
It was scary!
But for someone to run out into the street with only a towel and tell others to not worry because of one reason or another, .... !
And the reason was that they were a geologist!
I've had to hang onto the ground to keep from falling off, too many times.
But to hang onto a ceiling that is all of a sudden underneath, not to be forgotten.
And then to hear a geologist's take, who survived with less than a wipe-off, precious.
Everyone in the room made it through that quake somehow, a decade earlier.
Many not present didn't.

8:45 AM
:/

Gallows humr?

(woo, my new second hand keyboard arrived)

Type forth!

Like, musical keyboard.

Tickle!
(the ivories)
(and the ebonies)
