So what was the question?

To mods: the comments in puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/52606/… probably should have been in chat, will leave you all to decide what to do with them :P

@Sp3000 And the whole answer could be a CW as the poster did about 40% of the work
Also mornin' happy friday

Hmm not quite... despite a lot of golfs on PPCG being collab efforts, I remember there being a reason why most of them aren't CWs even when the poster wants it to be a CW so they don't get rep
Can't quite remember the reason though

Mean could not should, I see reasons for both

oh! I get it. leaving here is "wh" and entering another room is "oosh" ... that's funny.

I use it as a means to say, "This will be the chat room I have pulled up"

Oh is that what it was, I though dc had been saying "shoo" somewhat backwards the whole time

@MOehm You may be competing for longest standing 4C soon

1:09 PM
Still got what, 3 more days? But I think it definitely would have been if MOehm gave no hints, because even now I still have no idea :P

Probably :P

@n_palum I don't feel too good about this. The construction isn't more complicated than "this in that". I hope I haven't used bad synonyms.

It may be simple once we see it, it just doesn't appear anyone is seeing it

I speak for myself when I say it would be no more difficult in a language I don't know.

Q: An Unfortunate Conundrum Involving Extremes

Hugh Meyers The tide recedes as I sit in the fenced garden on my roof. A jagged rock lies ready to wreck the mariner who errs. A seabird screeches somewhere to my rear. Longing, I look at the world beyond the rail. The earth is green. It is the middle of the day and I am listening to Abba. A beat of wings...

@n_palum That took me a second because I thought it was a space joke in response to "Riker"

Q: I can be many things, and with a few changes become many more. What am I?

Doktor JOn my own I can be a lump of fat, or many other things. If I lose Kay and add other things (not necessarily in the order given below), I change entirely: Add you, the ocean, and a Canadian stereotype, and I'll burn your skin. Add a tiny robot without a wall and the city of angels, and I become...

Q: What is a Comfortable Word™?

ForkliftIn the spirit of the What is a Word™/Phrase™ series started by JLee, a special brand of Phrase™ and Word™ puzzles. If a word conforms to a special rule, I call it a Comfortable Word™. Use the examples below to find the rule. $$ % set Title text. (spaces around the text ARE important; do not...

@Sphinx @Forklift You did it :P

Sid
@jeyejow A good (and safe) idea would be to complete your work and then leave.

@Sid nah, this is boring, plus a friend of mine is alone in the mall and i wanna have fun, ill work another time :P
i just need to wait a little more till the coast is clear
and then "Operation Escape from work" begins

Sid
@MOehm We need a hint. Big time.

ok i have a plan, ill activate the alarm on the database of my company, there are only 3 people here atm, they'll go look whats wrong and i make a run for it
omg this will work so easly
plus they will be distracted with the alarm they wont even notice me after
just 9 more minutes...
ok this is it, wish me luck not to get caught :D

4:20 PM
uh, why would you do that?

^

Howdy yall

I knew I could trust @Sp3000 to see what I was going for :)

@ffao ?

If you mean your puzzle, the funny part was I got it from the 59 first XD

4:26 PM
oh a puzzle was solved

The one that was wrong? xD

@Forklift lel

Yeah the one that was wrong :P

Which puzzle

I was thinking "oh 59 is prime, hey 23 is prime, maybe..."

4:29 PM
@Forklift THAT IS NOT A VEGETABLE!

(probably needs some comments moving or purging or whatever the rules are, maybe)
@Deusovi Check messages, not sure if you're already on it

4:45 PM
@n_palum yeah, I hope it wasn;t too close to yours but I had already been working on it, so I shipped it.
@n_palum, no... it is not a vegetable. I thought you might be disappointed :)

I am disappointed

on the whole, just disappointed isn't bad. Could have been worse!

GamEN
How do you greet when it is 10:41 PM? Evening or Night?

Night

I say evening
To me night is more of a goodbye

5:13 PM
^

What if it's the Dark Hour?

but if the point is merely to greet and indicate your timezone, night seems most appropriate

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I never use GameN to sign off

I just say night

5:33 PM
I just roll out in the middle of a conversation

Sid
^
Me too.

when do we force @MOehm to self solve?

No idea, but I'm trying to crack what a comfortable word is

I promise there are no associated STDs

Highly doubtful
@Forklift Never, there's longer standing 4Cs
@MikeQ I thought about letter duplicates but that failed :P

5:46 PM
Also A1Z26 counts and sums

6:09 PM
also, each letter of the alphabet can be on either side :)

Which means we have to play with the words :P

Comfortable is not a comfortable word.
much to my chagrin.

Lame

are CALM and DOWN individually comfortable words?

no and yes, respectively

6:20 PM
Hmmmmmm

uh oh, here it comes
got it?

....Nope. Still no idea.
Aha, got it: Comfortable words are in the left column, not comfortable words are in the right column.

lol, I think I said the same about another one of those puzzles :)

6:55 PM
@Sid Okay, here goes:

ooh, a hint is happening

I believe the hint is the colon and the definition for cleanser is a colon cleanser.

So, a hint for the CCCC: The wordplay consists of three parts. One is the L for lost, the other two are whole words. "Solution for cleansing" belongs together.

I clearly did not wait long enough for the hint.

@Forklift No, no, it took me so long to type the hint, because I didn't know how to make it a hint without spilling it all out explicitly.

7:00 PM
but I mean... I could have been right...

Yes, but it's eye and mouth rather than colon.

are you sure I know this word?

The two words are rather common and the answer isn't too obscure either, I hope.

1 hour later…
8:31 PM
@MOehm Haha! I was right :P
Lol @Forklift the person who answered your list used the not comfortable words - the rule makes sense but they have it backwards.. unless your list is supposed to be flipped?

It's a roundabout yet correct explanation. A more concise version is "contains no alphabetically adjacent letters", but their answer seems okay.

Yeah I think it's right still - it's a confusing way compared to normal but that seems to be it

There are some others where the answer involves the word not having a property

"jokes aside"? I wasn't joking at all.
I legit suspect "too close for comfort" is the intent of the name.
... Hah.

Q: Complete the equality

DiegoComplete the equality to make it true: 1 1 1 1 = 5 You can add any math operation or symbol to the left side. @MikeQ aww. You ruined my joke literally seconds after I made it.

@n_palum Actually, considering my inability to write factorials properly, I should be the one receiving the "tuts".

I mean I think mine is valid
Squaring is a normal operation :P

If sqrt is not allowed, surely squaring is not

9:56 PM
Rule #3 seems to suggest that adding exponents is invalid

I think the logic to disallow sqrt is quite twisted
but I agree with Rubio, surely it's disallowed

@boboquack Oh, what was the challenge?

@ffao shrugs

not my rules, shrug at OP

I mean this is a questions that has been around online for a long time
The only originality is that they put a new restriction on it

Q: Wrong Letters at the Zoo

Mike QYou are the newest employee at the local zoo. After a long day of cleaning cages and making sure the animals are okay, you realize that it's getting dark and you should leave soon. As you approach the exit, you see that it is closed, and there is a written note tied to gate. Nobody else is around...

10:46 PM
^ @MikeQ "I had some difficulty reading her handwriting, so I had to make guesses about which animals she had in mind." is there maybe an tag missing, or are we supposed to know what this means? I don't know if the exhibit descriptions are inaccurate because of the handwriting, or if the password is (which wouldn't make sense; the gatekeeper surely knows the code, zookeeper's handwriting notwithstanding), or both, or neither.

11:35 PM
@Rubio Okay. I added the tag and also modified the story a bit. This is meant to be a weird, indirect puzzle.

Yeah I assumed as much. When you are going for indirect, you don't want the "surface" to lead in entirely the wrong direction or your answerers will never find the right path. Seems interesting, I wanted to make sure I was looking at it right before I get too far off the path
