@anon I agree, and I think those topics would be cool

@anon never heard of cryptomorphisms before, but the wiki page looks interesting, though short. Sounds perfect for a blog entry :)

@mixedmath hello. Which tasks other than review possible blog posts an editor has to do?

3 hours later…

@leo: Editing is what I imagine editors usually do most.

@mixedmath i self study mathematics sometimes (rarely) i find nice/ natural proofs of theorems which i learn about, is it OK to share these proofs in the blog ?
@mixedmath I was asking for a permission to post

@leo it's funny that you ask - we don't really have anything set in stone. We do expect posts to have proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc., and so it's good to have someone read over them
in any position of responsibility or leadership, there are unexpected things that pop up, and I'm not so good at predicting these. Each editor will have more or less equal say (including in comparison to the mods here).
@Amr With good exposition, I bet so. For a more concrete answer, you could mention a particular idea you have here. I'm sure we'd respond
One particularly good topic for writing is exposition on the recent Fields Medalists and/or their work

@mixedmath I'd be glad to help as much as I can. So yeah, I want to be an editor. Can I? :-)
There's beautiful series on the Fields Medal and Nevanlinna Prize winners starting here

Hello, I'm interested in writing an article on introductory actuarial science, aimed at an undergraduate audience. The goal of the article is to show how why insurance companies are better equipped to handle risk efficiently, and what it means for the risk that you and I, as customers, face. To that end, I would present a problem and work a problem on risk management.
17:55
@nomen hey, that sounds pretty cool!
@mixedmath: I don't have anything ready yet, but I should be done in a couple of hours. After that, how does the submission process work? Where do I post or send it to?
@nomen Try going to http://math.blogoverflow.com/wp-admin/ and attempt to sign in. You'll notice that you don't see anything at first. This is our only form of spam protection, and you only do it once.
once you go, let me know, and I'll update your privileges to be able to write a draft. Formatting math on wordpress can be a bit of a pain, and feel free to ask if you have a question.
Once you're content with your draft, let this room know, and we'll see what we can do.
@mixedmath: okay, sounds good. I've signed in over there.
@leo You're right - I didn't know about those, and they seem to be nice biographical stories. I suppose all that's left is a good exposition of their work, which is a bit harder
@nomen ok, if you check again, you should now be able to start writing a post
@mixedmath: super, thank you.
18:17
@mixedmath Why doesn't Will's post show on the main page?
@MikeMiller what do you mean?
like, when you go to math.blogoverflow.com?
Right.
try refreshing the page - I see it there
Jyrki's is still top one to me. It's probably a problem with my cache
(my fingers are crossed)
oh, hmm
@nomen are you still around, by chance?
18:28
@mixedmath: yeah, what's up?
@nomen when you go to math.blogoverflow.com, who is the author of the first post you see?
@mixedmath I should clarify I can see Will's if I follow the link on MSE
@mixedmath: Will Jagy, Binary Quadratic Forms
@nomen ah, thank you. I'm clearly misunderstanding something.
@MikeMiller oh - so what's going on?
@mixedmath I think it's just a problem on my end.
On the math.blogoverflow.com homepage, all I see is Jyrki's post - but if I follow the link to Will's post from MSE, I get to his post
18:30
@MikeMiller well, I hope it all works out. I'm afraid I'm stepping out for a bit, but I hope others stop by and are inspired to contribute - my fingers are crossed there too

idea: announce new blog posts, maintain history of new posts, maybe in meta. ofc one can scroll thru the blog to see history, but isnt in summary form.
anyway latest/last blog seems to be missing.
