@Grace: I'll be happy to sit down with you whenever you do have the time

Alright. Let's get this on the road, then, shall we, @mixedmath?

7:42 PM
@GraceNote Sure thing!

Alright, to start, head to math.blogoverflow.com/wp-admin. You should get a prompt for a login like with a Stack Exchange site.

ok, now I see a dashboard

Alright, give me a moment...
Okay, you're now an admin.

Yep! Now it looks like my typical wordpress dashboard

So that's the basic process on that end. Anyone who wants to contribute to the blog, to create an account, they will have to head to math.blogoverflow.com/wp-admin. This will give a prompt for login based on our old login system. When they do so, it'll automatically create the account, bypassing all the normal email shenanigans you need in a normal WP setup. This also means that we don't store your email.

Every user is linked with their ID, but the name is drawn from the network and we'll render avatars and link to profiles as appropriate in comments for example. After an account is created, it's up to an admin to set permission levels as necessary (all users start at Subscriber).

7:49 PM
ok, that makes sense

Contributor level means they can make post drafts but those must be approved to be published.
Authors can post and publish their own drafts, and only their own.
Editors can post and publish their own drafts, as well as publishing the drafts of others.
Administrators can manage the settings and such in addition to the stuff that an Editor can do.
All moderators on the site must be made blog administrators. As such, we'll need the rest of your team to eventually sign up for the blog and become administrators. Whether or not you choose to select other community members to become administrators is your own call as a community, but for the most part editor permissions should be sufficient for running things.
I stated this back when the idea was stewing so let me just quote from then...

The main job of mods is to do sanity checks - make sure that nothing remotely questionable or distasteful gets through. Be quite thorough there. We would like it if at least two mods can check off on any post before it goes out. I don't foresee as much problem in this sphere compared to others, but that's the protocol now. Copy-editing, it's your call if you want to do it, but the moderator portion of the job is to make sure it's clean stuff.
There is an "About" page, which on the dashboard on the left you can find it in the list of "Pages". It is currently essentially empty. You'll want to populate it with something that explains what the blog is about and such.

ok - a two mod filter, no questionable content. Sounds good

The blog is currently not hooked up or linked to the site proper yet - it will not show up in the Community Bulletin or in the Site Switcher. I will have this done when you've had an About page setup, and have had some of your initial articles ready and the existing "Hello World" article excised.

ah, and I see it has mathjax by default - great

Yep, I enabled that for you guys.
The blog currently does not have a Mathematics design, as mentioned. That isn't tied to your accomplishments and is tied simply to when one gets done, which it isn't major priority on the design team right now. I'll just update that to the proper scheme when that is ready.
That should actually pretty much cover everything.

Thanks @Grace! (Now let's hope your trust in us is well-placed)

Heh

2 hours later…

@GraceNote Moved just by curiosity I've clicked at the link you indicate above. My name appeared on the top black bar and then after pushing the accept button (below on the left), I've accessed the dashboard of the new Mathematics Stack Exchange blog (as a WordPress blog). If this is not the intended behavior of the blog, please inhibit my access to the new blog. For the time being I do not want to have any special previleges. Remark: I have a WordPress blog of my own.

10:30 PM
@AméricoTavares I noticed that you'd clicked through once. If you look at the dashboard, you should notice that you can't add or remove posts, or really see much of anything at all
is that right?

10:58 PM
@mixedmath That's right! I can only visit the post Hello world! by admin.

11:21 PM
@GraceNote mixedmatn's answer explained my doubts.
