What's the suspected trigger for emperor and running?

emp: delete all comments you made on old posts and NLN other's. But I've just done a lot and hasn't given me it yet

run: delete a lot of yours, I've deleted more than 40 so far.

So I think we are missing something.

sadly for me, I went and cleaned up my own comments that were NLN before WSB started.

I'm starting to hit declined, I've just tripled my declined comments (2->6) doing this...

Emp attempt: I went to my old answers, and looked for ones where if the comments by others and mine were gone it still made sense. Then NLN the others and delete mine.

that isn't yet working.

There’s something more to the hat trigger, my flags just now were all helpful and there’re >10 comments deleted by a mod.

Additionally, I deleted ~10 myself.

Running: I've deleted 30+ of mine on other's posts.

@nohillside did I do it wrong here, based on your theory of the triggers?

@CDJB Congrats on getting the (exceedingly rare) Running hat! Any idea what did you specifically do that could be considered “a slog”?

I could have gotten running sooner, it's just a slog... like running up a hill.

Specifically, did you routinely delete any your comments / flag NLN?

I'll probably do it slow and see the threshold that'll trigger the hat.

Personally, I doubt that the trigger requires tens and tens of helpful NLN flags. It's more likely something along the lines of "Clear all comments from 5–10 (?) of your old posts by deleting your own ones or flagging NLN for others'."

Which's why it's perhaps easier for mods to get since they can delete the whole comment thread under posts.

just got emperor, number< 22 comments of others. I'm unsure the number of answers but it's less than 22

28 still pending flags, so maybe running when they land

I suspect there is a "must be > x comments" and the 1 comment of others on your positive score answer won't count

@Catija emperor is all comments removed from 2 positive scored answers created before winter bash by use of NLN and deleting your own.
It worked with either 1 or 2, from my flag history.

Perhaps it's Delete / Flag >5 comments from your pre-WB post. @JamesRisner, did you have any posts where you removed / flagged >5 comments?

^ This appeared to get me the Emperor hat. TOTAL 12 comments: 7 deleted, 5 flagged

I think nuking all comments on 1 question or answer can get you Emperor. The number of comments appears to be key.

it's 5 total (we thing) between your comments and requires some comments from others you flag as no longer needed.

I just never see anything to flag, or if I do, it doesn't cross my mind to flag it

In fact, I've only ever flagged 5 posts (from different SE sites) lol

@Steffan merry christmas: Here's a SEDE query of codegolf.stackexchange.com to find comments that say "thanks" and "edited". Where appropriate, you can flag the "thanks" comment as "no longer needed", and also the comment the "thanks" addresses as "no longer needed".

- flag/delete all comments under a bunch of my old answers (less then 20 answers I think) to get Emperor

- delete all my comments unter a bunch of old answers (again in the 20 range) to get Running

i did it in that sequence, so my own comments deleted for emperor may very well count towards Running as well

@Panda the „advantage“ as a mod is that NLN flags immediately delete. For the hat it makes it difficult to see whether flagging is enough or deletion is required.

@Steffan thanks for this. NLN flags are usually a waste of time both for the raiser and the mod…
