@jrista back when I was into wildlife those were some of the most disappointing adventures
since often you went out carrying heavy gear and came back with nada

2 hours later…
2:15 AM
Sweet, I didn't realize until now the best part of my mod powers.
I can go back and re-read the insane handy andy posts!

2:39 AM
alrighty @jrista another bread shot - better than the others I think

1 hour later…
4:01 AM
hey @shutterbug

hello :)
the bread looks good
in terms of food photography as well as taste :D

thanks
@ShutterBug its been hard getting good shots of bread for me
they just don't turn out like I want
crumb shot turns out ok, not as good as the crust shot, but 'ok'

i think you should consider building a light tent for these kind of shots...
they'll add the "pro" feeling which is exactly what these photos are missing in my opinion
composition wise they are very good

@ShutterBug ya, i've thought about a light tent
i think I may just try a trifold, white cardboard around it and see how that does first

also, you should consider improving the composition by adding more related elements as foreground or base
for example: breads are made of flour, you can add raw wheat seeds... some raw flour powder and try playing with the composition

4:15 AM
nod not a bad idea!

@rfusca light tents are useful, and should be fun to build ;) once you have it, you always will manage to use it somehow lol

@ShutterBug ya, i know - its just already got a mile long list of DIY projects lol

this can be an example, but its too noisy, you'll need less elements lol
http://www.steveallenphotography.com/assets/galleries/103/fresh_bread_s0224.jpg
just for an idea

ya, thats not really my style, way way too noisy
but i know what you mean

yes, i dont like it either
getty is closing regional groups... as well as artist picks groups... lol

4:19 AM
@ShutterBug interesting

4:57 AM
morning

norning @fluf

how was the weekend?

@rfusca Aye, much better :D

thanks

5:22 AM
wacom has released Intuos5...
i was thinking of ordering a intuos4, but now i should check the new version first...
both are priced almost same
does anybody here has experience with wacom/graphics tablets?

6:01 AM
morning again :) people forgot to come unlock the doors at work

6:43 AM
ok seems my earth pic wont work
I missed this part: This week's theme is about the Classical Element of EARTH. All photos must involve this primordial element in some way or another.

3 hours later…
9:36 AM
Is there a way to manually add exif data on flickr (specifically on the web interface)
@ShutterBug nice beard you have there :P

9:52 AM
@fluf lol, it usually grows into a mess real quick!
@fluf i dont think so... but you can hide them ;)

@ShutterBug my fiance doesn't like mah beard so I have to shave every 2nd/3rd day
@ShutterBug sucks cause my lightroom settings are to strip all exif when exporting to jpg

haha, my wife has the opposite taste ;) i have this beard for like... well since i have grown beard lol

@ShutterBug also I don't trim my beard like you do, I just let it rip, here they call it a "vuil baard" (basically means dirty beard)

@fluf and why would you strip them?

@ShutterBug it was the default setting and I haven't changed it.

9:54 AM
@fluf ah, you caught me on a good day... you should see me now lol

I will now but all the previous photos so I either have to re-export all of them or just leave as is
also how do you mention someone in flickr? same as all the other social sites? @/+

you add them in your photos

oh

theres a section "People in this photo"

well she isn't in the photo
just want to mention her as she helped with post

10:02 AM
doesnt matter, thats all you can do lol...

O_O there's a difference between a cactus with and without leaves! like different species/family

2 hours later…
12:03 PM
Can we save this question;
1
Q: Which graphics card should I use for Photoshop (nVIDIA or Intel)?

TojassCan you please give me some advice about these video integrated graphics cards: 1. nVIDIA GeForce 2. Intel HD Graphics Which one is better to use photoshop? Thank you in advance! Edit: There are 2 laptops. I want to buy one from them, can you please choose one? 1. Asus K52F-SX039D 2. ASUS K5...

The laptop part at the end I think should just be removed - no one cares about two obsolete asus models - and replaced with a note that the purchase will be a laptop, making a later upgrade hard.
But what about expanding the question to also include amd?
I'd say just close it but the answers have good advice.

is the make of gfx card really an issue?
anything better than the minimum reqs of photoshop would be good

5 hours later…
5:21 PM
@ShutterBug hi

hello

maybe I should also try a new pic
I don't have a beard atm though
LOL I should make a question like @rfusca except make it "how to shoot bald people"
let's hope I don't break my laptop with this self portrait!

5:58 PM
lol

there I broke it! :D and I'ma delete it in 5... :P GONE!!!!
the aspect ratio doesn't work with gravitar

6:19 PM
@fluf lol
i kind of think we already have that..hmm
hmm, guess not

I think I should abstract it(the photo) a bit more in any case, I'm not fond of photo's of myself

@mattdm go ahead and edit if you like, if not, I can get around to it tonight
i don't let like pics of myself either

6:40 PM
@rfusca well you have a avatar of yourself, I've got a camera and a parrot in my face

@rfusca I'm about to send out emails re: the photo gear grant beta participants. I'm going to include a little blurb about "if you want to write blog posts, contact rfusca to set up an account on blog overflow." Is chat the best way for them to get a hold of you for that?

@Laura sure, that works

@rfusca cool. thank you

@Laura did we get many good entries?

@rfusca not as many as I was expecting, but that's probably a good thing for a beta program. and they were all totally reasonable requests.

6:44 PM
@Laura great

yup. I'm looking forward to seeing how this round goes. You should've gotten an email from me that says this too, but if you have any suggestions on how to improve any part of the process, let me know.

nobody wanting to rent a D3 and a 400mm f/2.8 for a month,eh

haha nope

roger

I'm especially interested in the bit about activity requirements in exchange for reimbursement. i'm trying to find a balance between generating great content but matching it up to what's possible with the gear each person has rented and not having it be too big a burden.

6:47 PM
@Laura interesting
The number of questions is a bit daunting, especially if you just got a lens, but I think at the edge of doable.
blog posts + questions, certainly doable

@rfusca What he said

@rfusca okay. I'll see if the others say the same. I figured you will never have as many questions about a lens as when you first try it out, but if people don't want to write blog posts and are finding it too hard to come up with great questions, I may reduce that.

@Laura okie dokey

I know that asking questions is really hard (the hardest part of being a member of any SE site, imo), but it's also what drives the rest of our activity. Like I said...questions will be answered. Always. But if nobody asks questions, people are just sitting around twiddling their thumbs ;)

nod definitely agree
no questions = no content

6:51 PM
exactly

@rowland - I think i'm gonna close that gps chip question, they've not been back in over a month

7:22 PM
@rfusca was it as long as that?
Oh yeah, misread the month
Gone

cool

2 hours later…
9:19 PM
A look inside Lytro's light field camera: http://bitly.com/w196yX

9:36 PM
@GnomeSlice No real detail on there

Hit or miss with PetaPixel.

Mostly miss, in my experience

10:03 PM
Well, sorry then.
