4:10 PM
@BardicWizard OK, that's going to have to wait for the weekend. I'll have a peek. Will let you know.

2 hours later…
6:17 PM
@NautArch How-dy! I'm going to ask what my compatriots' schedules look like
My vacations are ending after next week (boo!) so we might have to stick to weekends x_x

@kviiri That may work, do we have an eta on timeslot (not necessarily day)?
ANd did I send you my character sheet?

@NautArch Hm, what were our timezones again... we are EET (UTC+3 or UTC+2 depending on DST)
@NautArch Yup, over discord iirc

okay, makking sure :)

This might be a bit problematic, because I think weekends are our best bet (unless you like waking up to play on working days) and I think we have various cabin outings for most weekends until September

yeah, i'm UTC -5
I think Korvin is utc-6
I was worried about finding a time :(

6:27 PM
I was kinda hopeful of getting to start while at least some of us are still on holidays, but ... well. I'm not really the paragon of proactivity
Neither are my Finnish player friends. One is very good with reading the books though
The other has... felt kinda disinterested for a while? I need to ask her to confirm she's still into this. She seemed a bit skeptical about play-by-text and I don't really want to drag her along just so she can find out she doesn't like it

@kviiri yeah, especially with others here interested.
But I think finding time that this could actually work is our biggest hurdle.

So hmm. With nine-ish hours between us, if I would wake up super early we could make for an afternoon game for you folks over the pond
that'd be a way to make weekday games work, but I doubt everyone in my end will oblige

I mean, if it's just online I can probably do it a bit during the daytime on a weekday. But that's not ideal :P
weekend daytimes are tough because i've got kids

Aye. Heh. Maybe we should play by forum x)

And evening starts mean super absurd early
for you
although you've been onine in the middle of your night...

6:34 PM
My sleeping habits have been rather eccentric for most of the summer. Doesn't help there's like three hours of darkness every night, if even that
Earlier in this month, I had an eight-hour session of sauna and swims, and when I stopped it was about four in the morning and I still didn't want to go to sleep because the music was good and the sun was just about to rise over the treetops

@kviiri I've tried to explain that to my 8 year old and it blows his mind

@NautArch Heh, there are plenty of educated adults who can't grasp how it works, so there's still plenty of time to learn x)
(for the record, staying up that ...late? wasn't really worth it – the sunrise looks super nice when it's the golden hour and so on but by the time it comes out from behind the treetops it looks just like normal daytime sun)

hahaha
my days of staying up 'til sunrise are long gone.

that's pretty stunning

6:39 PM
Oh yeah. I'm usually really diligent about getting my sleep, but for some reason I just was on a roll over the whole weekend. I didn't drink much, I was alert the whole time well beyond the expectations of my friends, and emerged refreshed enough to play board games the next day. They joked that maybe I was asleep the whole time
I almost got into trouble about my sleeping habits in the army
although not in the conventional way x)
The last night at the barracks before we were sent home, lots of people were doing some low-key partying as is common. And I was super cranky at that because I wanted to sleep like I do every day
(or night)
I also was an unfortunate victim of number theory. We had a rotating reception/guard shift that took place at night, three hours, and mine just always happened to be on... Sunday-Monday nights. Which was a double-whammy!

oh geez

First: lights out was at midnight on Sunday (since people were allowed to come back from holidays as late as a minute before midnight), so there was little hope of getting ample sleep before that. Second, we very often set out on some longer trip on Monday mornings, which often meant the extra energy would've been useful
OTOH I slept through the transport so it was kinda ok
I'm just reliving army memories all the time now that I'm working with radios again :D
(I was in signals)

@kviiri My dad was in the US Army Signal Corps right after WW II. As to play by forum, that's fine, and if we play by text on the weekends, I can do Sunday Afternoons better than Saturday Afternoons, but for me early Sunday (0500 my time 0600 Naut time) is better. Weekdays, I have a weekly Thursday game in my evenings and an every other Monday that starts 2030 my time, so week day time slots would need to be "real Early" or later on a Tue, Wed, or Fri
... but if I get in the habit of gaming Friday nights I think the Missus will start to kick and scream.
She considers that her night, at her option, if she wants to go out/do stuff.
Propose some times and let's see what is doable.

The play by forum suggestion was a bit of a joke, I think I'd struggle immersing myself outside a proper session... but I think we can do a bit of that (or something functionally equivalent) to supplement normal gameplay

THe timezone split is cray cray. 9pm eastern is 3am finland.

6:53 PM
@kviiri oh, yeah, good idea and I agree

@NautArch I have a friend who remote works for a company based in California x)

yeeeesh

But yeah, it's preeeeetty bad
August is probably no-go, it's peak cabin season so everyone's somewhere on the weekends and weekdays are probably really hard to make work

@kviiri OK, does that make September our best start option?

Again, depending on time and availability. I've got a lot of leeway for playing during work.
My boss would allow it, but there may be times I need to walk away.
boss=me.

6:56 PM
@NautArch Oh right! @KorvinStarmast How about you?
@NautArch I'm cool with this – a benefit of play-over-text is that you can always just read what you missed

and once school for the kids starts up, I think i'm spending 3 days/week at home teaching.

Yeah, I can do play by chat/text in this format, but not on discord, from work ... but I don't control my time the way Naut does.

@KorvinStarmast I do have a job opening :P But probably well below your pay scale :(

Let me see what I can do about improving my phone/discord set up. Currently my experiences with discord on phone is suckage.
@NautArch likely true. :-)

It doesn't have to be Discord – I'm still very much undecided regarding the system choice
...I mean the platform

6:58 PM
Doing it in a chat room here might work ...
... as you can load images if you need to ...

There's also slack or other services if discord is wonky for you.

I may also choose to make my phone a hot spot and be able to use my laptop ... but that means I need to get an alternator for my car 12vDC slot ...
Slack? Hmm, need to check that out.

I haven't had a huge issue on my android phone, but I tend to use my PCs app more whenever I can because I'm awful at thumb typing.

> hmmm what did that just do?
Ah, that. I'd forgotten how to do that?
| and this?
aah, I see the distinction. Hmm.
d8

7:02 PM
d8|d8|d4
nope, doesn't work.

Some stuff I'd like would be... some way to separate in-game/meta/off-topic, some whiteboard / similar to draw to, a dice roller service. And enough formatting to eg. emphasize narrative voices

Google Hangouts? Or whatever they're calling it now?

7:25 PM
Should work fine for me :) Also, I think there's no real issue with roll20 or is there?
I've never used it and dunno really what it's about, but it should be good right?

@kviiri I have used it a lot, mostly good.

7:43 PM
It can be super laggy
