12:14 AM
My bad, I forgot about the challenge on monday...

12:30 AM
Oh, yeah, this ones for tomorrow.
I was thinking of Sustainable Living, and that one I did start...

7 hours later…
7:54 AM
hello?

@SabreTooth hi

how are you?

writing an answer to that new early solar system question
almost done

niiice
i just wrote a simple-ish question, but has eluded me for a while
our stats are looking good

done.

A: How do we know the asteroids formed at the same time as earth?

Michael what evidence do we have that the asteroids indeed formed at the same time as earth? It depends on what is your definition as "the same time". The formation of the solar system and Earth did not happen at a particular second in time but was rather a continuous process. It also depends on wha...

I'm proud of that answer :)

8:08 AM
WOAH!
here is your Honourary Doctorate! brilliant answer!
I am happy with, but nervous about my question

ANU is one of the places where they research this kind of stuff, so I guess that soon I'll have first hand experience of that research

they do indeed!
I did a science teachers summer school there several moons ago
i am tempted to delete my question,,,, getting nervous, twitchy even

Why? It's actually pretty good. Just edit your comment into the answer. Not all of us live near the ocean
I had no idea about that :D

will do!

And even though I live in Tel Aviv in the past year, I live in the point farthest from the sea possible

8:21 AM
have fixed the question... I have upvoted your answer - truly epic

Thanks :)
Writing another answer now to Richard's question about subductions

you could write an answer to my subduction question

link

Q: What geological processes would 'restart' subduction processes?

Sabre ToothAccording to the Science Daily article Plate Tectonics May Grind To A Halt, Then Start Again (Carnegie Institution), one main aspect of the research being presented is the hypothesis that suggests that plate tectonics may have ground to a halt at least once in our planet's history -- and may ...

oh, that one
that's geophysics
I don't know geophysics :P

8:36 AM
gasp!
still twitchy about my question

Answered another one
ok now I got stuff to do
didn't we have an ophiolite tag?

we should
dude, that answer is poetry
I am now thinking of a question - Tasmanian ophiolites?
Hey, one of your answers just got accepted!
you are going to hit 2K in no time (and well deserved)

which one? the ophiolite one?
thanks
this is what happens when you're unemployed :D

no, your answer for the asteroid one
I am going to write a question about Tasmanian ophiolites (and link to your answer

I think it's only temporary. We just have a small surge in geochemistry-geology questions
Once it's back to the usual cloud-climate-water stuff I will have nothing to answer

8:51 AM
we will convert you
one of us! one of us!

never. I hate that stuff
@casey I remember there was an ophiolite tag. Where did it go to?

so @Michael ou reckon tasmanian ophiolite tag has merit?

tag or question?

a question about the tassie one, and I reckon you should make an ophiolite tag

Depends on what you want to ask. You know how this site works. You read about something, you find something that you can't understand or can't find the answer to elsewhere, and ask here.

8:56 AM
yup, that is what I am inspired to do - from your answer! The system works!
then I am going to go back to answering the unanswered list
I even self-answered a little while ago

1 hour later…
10:14 AM
so, are we going to start the biweekly topic challenge next week?

10:51 AM
@plannapus I'm pumped and ready to go

3 hours later…
2:04 PM
@Michael its not on any questions. if it existed before it might have disappeared from a re-tag. if a tag has no questions for a day or so, it gets deleted automatically. Feel free to recreate it though

Weird. Just looked at all ophiolite questions and their edits and found no trace of it. I'm pretty sure there was an ophiolite tag.
Good thing all of these meteorite formation questions are here and not on physics or astronomy :)

3 hours later…
4:50 PM
hehe got the Tumbleweed badge on Cross Validated

2 hours later…
7:07 PM
hmmm my latest questions are not really any good....
hi @Seth

Hi

can I ask if there is anything wrong with my question

Q: What evidence is there that a future volcanic eruption may occur in south-east Australia?

Sabre ToothA Science Daily article Volcanic eruptions long overdue in SE Australia (University of Melbourne, 2011), suggests that a volcanic eruption is potentially "long overdue" in south-east Australia (south-west Victoria and the south-eastern part of South Australia). As per the map below: Image sou...

I guess the title is not catchy enough
Low views... People just don't click on it

hmmm how to rewrite the question?

"What evidence is that that" -> "Will"
get rid of the "may"
get rid of "south-east"

7:18 PM
get rid of south-east?

I think the title is a classic case of tl;dr
put the specific in the question, not the title

aaah

"Will a volcano erupt in Australia?"
this seems like something people will Google for

Will a volcano erupt in Australia soon?

yea
btw, remember that question I asked about UV in the dead sea?

7:20 PM
done
yes, yes I do... I answered it

Nature runs a special about melanoma now
If you have access, it's interesting
or maybe it's open access

I will have to have a look at that
I have posted a link to my volcano question on my twitter and facebook

good luck with that
I'm off to Belgium for a week. cya :)

enjoy!!
my net masterpeices are going to be some more answers

A: How do weekly topic challenges work?

FrankEarth Science beta has started a topic challenge (Earth Science: Biweekly Topic Challenge). It is a slower site, with only 2.3 questions per day being posted atm, so we decided to start it out as a biweekly challenge, to get more attention for each challenge posted. We now have our first challe...

There's you guys space^.

Q: Biweekly topic challenge: paleoclimatology

J. MusserI made a post asking for topic ideas for the challenge, and the highest scoring suggestion is for paleoclimatology. Please use the tag paleoclimatology when posting questions for this challenge, and remember to keep the site quality at a good level. In two weeks, on December 3rd, I will tally u...
