It only took me one winter bash to realise how harmful it was for site curation
we already get upvotes on utter crap presumably due to the voting badge
then during winter bash you see high-rep (well, not-accidentally-high-rep) users making a mess on the main site and chat
so apparently chat shows hats even when I have them disabled

@AndrasDeak again, it kinda depends. Full protection is probably impossible, but some defensive mentality could really help.
In a way it is the same problem as my old LotRO example (I don't remember if @BESW actually ever read that).
The Lord of the Rings Online had a prestige title for reaching lev 20 with a character without ever dying.
