6:22 AM
@KorvinStarmast I get "motion sick" playing some first-person 3d games for too long. I can only manage a couple of hours of Minecraft, but can (usually) play Overwatch for longer with no problems.

2 hours later…
8:37 AM
@V2Blast yep, I suppose so. What I meant is that I have no idea about how ethical is the monetization pressure.

9:10 AM
@Adeptus if you're finding it only happens with some games, it might be that you'd get on better with some others by adjusting the FOV
Minecraft also has pretty heavy view bob by default IIRC and turning that kind of thing off if possible may also help

9:31 AM
That's fair. I've never played it myself.

3 hours later…
12:15 PM
i've noticed i get motion sick if a game has head bobbing or motion blur
spyro's "active camera" also messes with me because the camera's swivelling around constantly as i move
i haven't tried the FOV change though for those games that still mess with me

12:37 PM
Oh yeah, motion blur in games is yuuuurgh for me.

I don't typically have any issues with that
which is weird because I have a lot of problems with certain kinds of light
but motion isn't that big a deal for me unless it triggers some arcane fear response or something
like the way stingers move in Satisfactory, even with Arachnaphobia mode on the movement they do and the sound it makes gives me a lot of issues, but it's not like motion sickness

1:07 PM
One of the things I really appreciated about the CGI in Into the Spider-Verse was that slowing down the frame rate, and using stretches and smears instead of smudges and blurs, made it a LOT easier for me to keep track of complex high-motion scenes.

1:25 PM
I'm pretty good at keeping track of that kind of thing generally
however I will complain about the Transformers movies
those did so much stupid movement I couldn't keep track of what was going on in the,... one? two? that I saw
besides Bumblebee
that one was actually fine
maybe a couple of other movies specifically any I saw that were 3D and I think even one of the Marvelverse movies in particular but I don't remember which one

2:00 PM
@Adeptus Given how good the visuals on the Witcher III are, and how good my laptop's video card is, I suspect for me it's more a matter of retraining some monkey skills / twitch reflexes in both of my hands. I find it takes a little longer for me to retrain my hands as each year passes .. something about old dogs and new tricks. 😛

I got super motion sick in Half-Life 2 when you drive the hoverboat thing.

2:16 PM
I spy with my little eye someone green

2:38 PM
@NautArch oh yeah, I stopped playing part way through the boat level.

@Adeptus I powered through it over several sessions. But it was really hard.
I got some of that feeling when I tried a VR headset, but it went away pretty fast.

2:50 PM
@NautArch My son got a VR headset; I tried it out, and as long as I made no quick movements, no headache. My wife really disliked it.

@KorvinStarmast which one?

@NautArch I'll get back to you, it was a couple of months ago, the name is not coming up from memory. I'll text him and ask.

I've been borrowing my neighbor's valve index and I"ve been very underwhelmed.

@NautArch That does not sound right. He's on the graveyard shift, so I can't get a reply in text till this afternoon.

3:28 PM
@AndrasDeak wrong green, I meant the other one.
The Chrysalis green one.

4:18 PM
Hmmmm...?
I try to show a consistent shade to the world :P

@Derpy new avatar get o/
since then, one of the many evil masterplans was getting @doppelgreener to use the Reflections alternate timeline version instead.

4:57 PM
@Derpy perhaps someday. it is green!
i'm not all that big on MLP though
crystalis was just real cool lookin'

5:15 PM
Still Chrysalis.
just another version.
You know, standard alternate dimensions stuff

5:38 PM
@NautArch the hoverboat section was a bit notorious for causing that and it's almost certainly because the FOV changes when you get in a vehicle

5:52 PM
i mean, that chrysalis was real cool lookin'

good ol' cheeselegs

3 hours later…
9:20 PM
@Derpy ah
@Derpy I never liked polar opposite parallel universes
they are invariably also "everything seemed to happen in almost identical ways except the recent history predating the current plot"

2 hours later…
11:49 PM
@Carcer I turned off the view bob a while ago. I'll try widening the FOV next time I play.
