@Miniman I'm not quite sure about a), it seems like small consolation, since 'EA' is still not a primary games-maker, but rather a bigger 'borg collective' that engulfs game-makers (e.g. Bioware); as for b), there's a lot of talk about the hate, but in terms of actual purchases, EA is doing pretty well (and here I admit I contributed to that too, what with wanting SWtOR despite all the mess associated with only being able to buy it through EA's buggy launcher/downloader/installer/etc.).
Now, maybe I'm misattributing some of EGS' troubles more to the backlash, while they're more about being new kids on the block.
But I always had an impression that the likes of EA (and even the less nasty exclusivists) are doing very well in a world where they have to compete with GOG.

Well, yeah. So is EGS. If you want to talk about the actual bottom line, EGS is doing just fine.

@Miniman Ah. I've encountered claims that they're not, and they're getting into atypical debts in the hopes of maintaining their current push long enough to get into level flight. But it's been a while since I took a closer look, so I trust you to be more informed than I am.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica I could be wrong - my understanding is that while 2019 profits were down compared to previous years, they were still plentiful.
As I understand it, though, it's basically all Fortnite.

@Derpy They did make a followup post linking to a longer article on Medium. (It shows examples of the death threats they got as a result, and explains/defends their own approach to the situation.)
BTW, a new post from MSE about the tag:

@V2Blast Now I'm curious whether some of the things in that reply are true or not (e.g. I have no idea if Patron's tools can be used to give access to something digital on most other platforms - I know it has some integration with Discord, but no idea about other options), but I have zero investment in the game in question so am unlikely to investigate.

@V2Blast I don't have any problem believing they received threats or that users can be toxic, happens any day. I just don't believe they were very wise in the initial post... It did sound somehow rude and borderline mockery ("I trust you are smart enough to install a free software"...)

4:23 PM
@Derpy Yeah, I agree. The tone was not clear to begin with. The harassment/death threats are clearly unwarranted regardless, but there's a reason some people were reasonably upset and it has to do with how the message was communicated.

unrelated to the above:

@V2Blast Don't have Netflix so I can't say much. For some reason it kinda remind me of a mix between the Troll Hunter cartoon and Disney's Monster Allergy (a series that probably is quite unknown outside Europe, like W.I.T.C.H.)

@Derpy I've never seen either of those. But the first season of Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts is great

"Once upon a time, in a far away land... Disney Europe wasn't the Inquisitor Zealoth it is now. Writers had quite a lot of liberty, and that brought a lot of creative comics into existence. Italy was probably the heart of this....
W.I.T.C.H. was one of those comics. It probably was intended as a "for girl" fantasy comic, but it managed to NOT become the usual "girl meet boy" stuff that many writers just think they HAVE to include at any cost.
It managed to become quite popular back then. The comic I think reached at least issue 100, and they made a animated show out of it.

art style reminds me of the cartoon Winx Club
Winx Club is an Italian-American animated television series created by Iginio Straffi and co-produced by Rainbow SpA and Nickelodeon. It is set in a magical universe that is inhabited by fairies, witches, and other mythical creatures. The show follows a fairy warrior named Bloom as she enrolls at Alfea College to train and hone her skills. The series uses a serial format that has an ongoing storyline, with individual story arcs comprising each season. It premiered on 28 January 2004, becoming a ratings success in Italy and on Nickelodeon networks internationally. Iginio Straffi initially outlined...
> In April 2004, The Walt Disney Company filed an unsuccessful copyright infringement lawsuit against Rainbow SpA. The company accused Rainbow of copying the Winx Club concept from its W.I.T.C.H. comic book, which was published over a year after production on Winx Club began. [...] Rainbow won the case against Disney, as they provided proof that Winx Club entered production by 2000, while the W.I.T.C.H. comic was not released until May 2001.

Totally the opposite. I often mention how W.I.T.C.H. is actually a decent comic for young girls (that can be read even by males or older people. Artwork in the comic is quite nice quality!) while Winx.... well, anorexic fairies that transform using an handbag. Not exactly the message I want to give to a young girl.
Sadly, later issues didn't had the same quality. An the cartoon never had. Artwork was worse.
^ you can clearly see that the cartoon was probably made on a small budget.

Oh I didn't know it started with a comic.
And re: copyright infringement, I always confused Winx with WITCH.

5:25 PM
Winx AFAIK was probably quite "toy driven" in a way, by which I mean that it seemed to be built around a good dose of stereotypes for the purpose of toy-making
impossible hourglass figure "Nami style" (If you know One Piece you know what I'm talking about)", glitter like it rains, high heels, pets just because you have to have the kawaii plush-like pet, magic gadgets that look like cellphones, handbags and so on....
Basically the standard "you have to be like this to be a popular girl" message.
From what I know... W.I.T.C.H. wasn't like this, at least the first seasons were more fantasy themed.
(BTW, W.I.T.C.H. is actually an acronym. Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, Hay Lin - the names of the five girls.)

5:42 PM
@Derpy lol, you're not wrong. the character shapes in Winx were weirdly narrow

Also I don't think legs work like that

user15026
Yikes, yeah, that's...gotta not feel great.

@RedRiderX Did I mention that thing also got a live "Musical" theatrical show tour, an "on ice" one (both with real live cast) and apparently should become a Netflix exclusive live action series?
There should be a law against live adaptation for some shows.
And yep, you can laugh at me all you want since I still remember THE HORROR Hasbro tried....
argh..... even finding the link again was painfull
(and mind you, this is a fair late one. The first ones they made were far worse)
Here
^ not a single costume, hair style, or character personality was matched :P
