Not a game I actually followed - just discovered this story by chance, but I thought it would be good to share.
A very good example of how to NOT talk to your customers.
Including gems like:
(oh, I checked the page. It is real. Here is the link should you want to check: ooblets.com/2019/07/we-did-the-thing )

@Derpy I do have to admit I find it odd that EGS specifically gets attacked for exclusivity, while e.g. EA Games gets a pass, as do console-exclusive games. As far as EGS goes, I'm more concerned about rumours that their handling of user data and related stuff even worse than most companies in a similar position. But that's been a long time ago, and I'm not sure how true - either way I don't use Epic Games at all so far.
But making fun of the community . . . that's a dangerous game to play. Sometimes people controlling the companies manage to pull it off in a way that makes the community laugh with the company, other times it backfires terribly.
(As far as distributors go, my favourite is GOG - okay interface, option to install directly without a launcher, no pesky DRM, and no pesky regional shenanigans that I've seen so far.)

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica while the Youtuber was indeed angry about the fact it is an exclusive I was just talking about the condescending tone of the post from the game developers. BTW, if I got that right, the game was initially founded by a Patreon - and if you skim thru the video it seems like one of the dev/company staff members replied to some backers concerns about exclusivity with what basically amount to "don't care about you anymore, we don't need the patreon anymore now."

@Derpy Ah. Betrayals are serious business and of course a worthy ground for no longer trusting a developer.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica Didn't doublecheck everything in the video, but the "I believe in you and your ability to download a free thing and create an account" really sets the tone there.
Talk to me that way once... any trust me you can keep your product for yourself.

@Derpy I suppose the reaction to things such as these are highly varied by individual. To me it doesn't look any less acceptable than e.g. Discord's condescending tone that pops up repeatedly in patch notes - both seem tongue-in-cheek.

never used Discord so I don't really know.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica EA gets away with it because a) their exclusive games are games published by themselves, not games they just spent a ton of money getting an exclusivity deal for, and b) they don't really get away with it - everyone hates EA, and everyone hates Origin.
Besides, Fallen Order is the best thing they've come out with in years, and it was on Steam, so...
