8:29 AM
@trogdor never played, not interested, I only know about the mess and Elliot having to sue the game studio over some really bad stuff that was discovered because of a glitch/hack. The fuss it caused made it to the headlines on many gaming sites.

I didn't play it either but I watched a playthrough of it
which is more time than I should have spent on it
at some point I realized it's story was incomprehensible garbage but by that point I was too far in and I couldn't stand not finishing it at that point

8:50 AM
@trogdor Wish the "story" was the only problem Elliot had with the game.

9:03 AM
(notice that because Internet, if you really want to know what happened, you probably would have to use the name "Ellen" and not "Elliot" because that is the name headlines used back then)
@trogdor BTW, Shantae also had a "Physical game only" version. Still limited to that site.

eh
what does it add to the game?

9:36 AM
@trogdor The physical edition? Just the fact that you have the game on a physical support instead of it being download only.

ooh ok XD
no big deal
I mean I realize you probably like having the physical edition because no one can just take it away on a platform and you won't be incapable of downloading it just because say, your internet is out or something
but I kinda like having the digital versions of games
XD
also every physical disc or such I have ever gotten I have lost or broken eventually
or lost or broken the console I could play them on but I guess that one isn't entirely the same thing

10:17 AM
@Derpy anyway,.... I'm not really sure I want to know what it is but I'm fine with condemning that game anyway XD
if nothing else I just don't think I trust that it wasn't literally something David Cage did because I get weird vibes from his body of work

@trogdor Won't haunt you in the sleep, but it is still something that deserves a "Why you did that in the first place"

1 hour later…
11:44 AM
@trogdor Think Disney did that once, right? Pulling off the ability to download games that people bought licenses for.

I wouldn't put it past them but I don't know about that from personal experience

If world wants to go fully digital, then we need a world-level repo of licenses that anyone can refer to if they need to prove they paid for using a game. Then, if someone "pulls of the site", users should be legally allowed to host the original download, even in cracked form if the software had features that prevent it to run if it can't "phone home" - the only requirement should be that you should yourself have a license to use it.
Hard to do, almost impossible, but it is their decision to go that way, not mine.

I mean that isn't the way I hope it would work

Real world kitchen appliances getting BRICKED and unusable because the developers pull of the trigger on the online servers?

lol that's really bad too
I mostly just meant games
that would be all kinds of worse if appliances were included

11:50 AM
So, now the microwave turned into a decorative sculpture because the online servers are down....
@trogdor Would?
Already happening, my dear friend...

eww
then I say that is gross

A collection of Internet of Things horrors stories....
Not liking the name myself, but I'll have to recognize it is well deserved.
> After receiving 85 reports of doorbells catching fire, Ring has issued a recall of some second-generation Ring doorbells

@BESW BTW, just for disclosure in case you get request or anything, I think it is pretty clear that the name of the Twitter Account is quite satirical because of the topic that they discuss. Anyway, fell free to edit, remove, or move the posts to Dragon as you feel required, I am perfectly fine with that. Don't think it is needed but just wanting to leave you guys this notice just in case.

1:57 PM
It's a terrifying account by virtue of its content, but a pottymouth name isn't enough for me to think mention of it needs to be handled as particularly sensitive, especially since you've flagged it as such in the link. If anyone else wants it moved, of course, I'll respect that.

yep, I agree, I just mentioned that so that you won't think I would get angry if anyone wants it moved.

I do, however, vastly appreciate that the tone of this chat is such that a mild pottymouth username like that is able to stand out as a lowering of standards. Y'all do good work.

found that account some time ago, I look at what they post from time to time, just to get an idea of how "great" our world can be at time.
Some of the stories are quite terrible though, not because of them mind you - just because they are really horrible ideas.
I remember them mentioning a "pet holding service" that was basically a box you could put your dog/pet in while going shopping in the city.
Already horrible (you left the dog in a sealed doghouse outside a shop, good luck with the temperature during summer).... and they they noticed the thing run on a mobile app.
If the app didn't work or some dastardly human being managed to isolate the doghouse from internet (even by just cutting the powerline) the dog would end up sealed inside the device, with no way to force the door.
And... the service line to call in case of emergency was like "Monday to Friday from 9am to 13am"

2:21 PM
@Derpy How do you even 9am to 13am? óÓ_Òò

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica Made up the specific range, I just remember it not being 24/7 and quite limited (like no weekends support)
As I said, that user is an aggregator of horrible IT related ideas.

3:06 PM
The other horrendous one is remote exams

1 hour later…
4:07 PM
@AncientSwordRage you mean the one that mentions "student will have to do a full 360° video of the room they are in to prove no one is with them"?
> 'Students may also be prompted to do a “room scan” where they turn their computer camera 360 degrees to show that nobody else is in the room with them'
I am quite "fond" (for specific meanings of "fond") of the Ring drone cam.
> an internet connected drone camera for your home, owned by Amazon. this definitely won't be a privacy nightmare at all

@Derpy that's the latest story, but there was also ones that showed the software tracked your eyes to see if you were looking at another screen
@Derpy I'm always surprised when these aren't parodies

@AncientSwordRage I fear that is the point. Those aren't made up.
Which sometime is quite scary

@Derpy it really is
There was another account, this time a parody (I hope), that posted statup ideas
Like, "uber, but in a longer car, that just followed a route. It would have tickets to speed up payment"

There was an internet connected mouse trap that sends you a sms when a mouse is caught....
I think reality has surpassed parodies years ago.

Remember, give the kids power so that they are able to buy stuff randomly.

@Derpy ugh

or the "funny" ones because there is no "real" damage, just WHY.
> I was sent a home brew kit a few weeks ago but I cant brew beer because I cant get it to connect to my wifi…

4:37 PM
That's.... Bizarre

2 hours later…
6:08 PM
some will get the joke.

2 hours later…
8:00 PM
and if you don't start here

8:11 PM
Lol I got it on sight
Very good
