Does anyone know a relatively pithy, witty, and short quote about TTRPGs that a new player might be able to understand? I need an emergency email signature quote that isn’t dissing the Sage Advice compendium cause I get the dubious honor of trying to introduce a completely new player to RPGs over email as a favor to the librarian, who ‘suggested’ that my signature might not send the right message

I strongly disagree with a lot of the things about RPGs I whole-heartedly endorsed five years ago.
> Wait a minute... **looks at bookcase full of TTRPGS** you’re telling me you can PLAY these things?!

You're an RPG player. On Fire is a very common condition.

@BESW do you mind if I use this one? It is about a thousand times better than “Sage Advice on Sage Advice: read the SAC. Then rule the exact opposite. — [fellow library GM]”

@BardicWizard Sure!

@BESW thanks. Hopefully it’ll be a fun little thing that will make the newbie player a little more interested in TTRPGs and not likely to run away screaming at the first sign of things blowing up
The ‘suggestion’ I change my signature was made because last time I tried to help someone completely by email it was back when the Sage Advice quote was followed by “‘when in doubt go to blow up the library everything’ — Hermione Granger [my name]” and that was taken the very wrongest of wrong ways to take that quote
Which is to say there was a couple complaints from a parent that maybe I was the wrong person to be given the “heavy responsibility of running a game for those in their formative years, with impressionable young minds”
despite the fact that it was a joke, I still got asked to be a little more careful with my email signatures and apparently being dismissive of the very very wrong SAC is possibly not the right way to go

Yeah, contextless advocation of violence rarely goes well.

It was a good quote at the time but a bad idea to leave it on the draft when i knew it was not a reflection of my best self and we could assume that a parent would read it
@BESW even with context it rarely goes well
