my VGA-to-HDMI adapter arrived, and it works. I can finally use my external monitor again

The most frustrating thing in the world is when people hit “reply all” instead of “reply only to the sender” and then you get a million emails that you don’t even need to be reading.

ugh yep
and I have to check all message notifications I can see, they are too distracting XD

(And these were from technically adept teenagers who hit reply all and not reply only to the teacher on this email)
@trogdor same

yeah to be fair I assume that's the case for everyone but I don't know for sure

I absolutely despise when a teacher sends out office hours links by email and asks for you to reply to say you’re coming. Then of course someone hits reply all and then it turns into a chat thread
Consisting of “I can make it” “same” “I’m coming too” etc.

people at my work office do that too
technically not working right now due to the pandemic but still receiving emails every once in a while and reply alls XD I might also make the mistake myself too sometimes
still, definitely annoying

6:00 AM
I have a client who CCs (not even bCC) me in emails with the magazine contributors, "so I'll be in the loop."

Reply all is a feature that is misused more often than it is used correctly, in my experience (in 6th grade a teacher sent the whole grade a reminder to turn in a project for PE. She didn’t use bcc so it turned into the 6th grade chat thread. It stopped when someone showed the principal)

folk in my office still sometimes speak of the legend of Andrew Wong, who accidentally started an email thread that overwhelmed our organisational email servers by replying directly to the "all-staff" email distribution list
I think these days they have configured it so you can't do that

that sounds like something that needed to be fixed yeah

it would have been some time ago, in a simpler age
predates my tenure at least, so pre-2013
in fairness it's remembered the way it is mostly because one of the emails in that thread was "WHY HAVE YOU DONE THIS ANDREW WONG", which is easy to use as an inside joke re: reply-alls and unwanted email
and the server killing was probably because someone else decided to use the opportunity to send the entire org pictures of their cats, and it was trying to distribute several thousand copies of large jpeg files that was the real issue

9:10 AM
lol
cats win again

9:25 AM
The traditional reply-all email storm was Bedlam DL3 at microsoft. And they managed to reenact it last year

Please keep this room free of any discussion concerning the United States elections and events around them. Feel free to discuss politics in Here There Be Dragons. Be excellent toward each other in all rooms, as usual!

On the bright side of things (aka sometime between last night and now) somebody stopped the email chain before it went too far.
And I got to see what outlook’s “no email in your inbox” message looks like
(It’s a hot air balloon bobbing up and down)
