@doppelgreener pls no
the most fun cases are when two ticketing systems enter a persistent loop and keep responding to each other's automatic messages by opening new tickets

oh my god lol
i never realised i could do that, but i totally could
that's incredible

yeah it's hilarious until one of the ticketing systems is your job and you have to make it stop before the email deluge breaks everything

@doppelgreener this is how it feels it goes with my work and one of the dsl providers we use...

@doppelgreener there was a [redacted] mvp I once had to work with.... He wrote software specs like this.
> this change will modify the behavior described in the doc XY § 3.5.23 by changing the third word to "or" instead of "and"
so, instead of having a description of the current behavior, you had a chain of unclear descriptions of the changes that where made.

3:32 PM
@Derpy oh no, that sounds horrid
that describes neither the original behaviour nor the new behaviour, just basically implies a diff
that's hardly a software spec at all
i daresay it isn't a spec

3:42 PM
@doppelgreener exactly.
and when the chain grew... you had a dif that changed a dif that changed a dif that changed the original document.
Completely unreadable.

this is what version control is for

As we enter a new decade, there are tremendous forces converging—cloud computing, big data, AI, ML, and an increasingly diverse group of young coders from around the world. Every day, millions of developers visit Stack Overflow to find information they need as they push these exciting new technologies forward. There has been a massive shift since my days as a computer engineering graduate. I was fascinated by the power of languages like Perl, but had only my teachers, classmates, and a few small web forums and mailing lists as a community to support my learning. The numbers below really put into perspective the impact that our community generates and the opportunities that lie ahead: …

Q: CEO's 2020 Kickoff Blog: Where do you see Stack Overflow going?

PchandrasekarHello members of the Meta community - I wanted to share the blog post I wrote to kick off 2020 and reflect on my first 90 days at the company. It’s intended for a wide audience, the tens of millions of people we serve, but also because I know you all want to hear directly from me. My style is to ...
