A nine year old child asked me if it is possible to know where the Sun is located just by looking at the Moon from the Earth.
I said I don't know, that I only know that the lunar surface reflects the Sun's light in a mirror-like way.
But I am curious, is it possible?
A ball bouncing (consider ideal elastic collisions) moves to and from about some point, but there is no equilibrium position. This motion sure is periodic... but is it oscillatory?
What is the criterion for a periodic motion to be oscillatory?

@nickbros123 the most general application is simply that you can do all proofs in the continuum - as long as they're valid for distributions (in the functional analysis sense) and not just functions, you then automatically prove everything for both the discrete and continuous case
