Do mods merge accounts or not? I've had a flag rejected for suggesting a merge since a user was trying to edit an unregistered user's post under the same display name, but physics.stackexchange.com/questions/33767/… suggests otherwise. Did it change over the last few years?

@Chair I think it did, and merges are now supposed to be handled by the SE team, in the rare instances when they are really warranted.
Anyway, my general suggestion is to use flags to say what you observed, not so much to suggest a way to deal with it (like merging accounts).
