Q: I feel more comfortable working from an office. Is this now a 'drawback'?

S. DreWell. When I first experienced remote work, I was excited as most of us. Some years later, it seems to be a model that is imposing itself in the IT environment at least. In my personal case, I am back at the office right now. The thing is, I prefer it. I will say that I prefer it in part because ...

I should point out that I mean a pragmatic drawback, not that I think there is anything from with it.
@FreeMan thanks for the input. I think I have the best of both worlds since I work 10 minutes walking away from my home so no gas expenses there.
You said you are in "IT", but what exactly do you do? What kind of company do you work for? Do you guys host your own servers or is it all cloud based? Are other employees in the company able to work remotely (IE, is it manufacturing or software development)
You say you are back in the office and you prefer it, but that you are mostly being offered remote jobs. Are you actively looking for a new job, or are you happy where you are? What problem are you trying to address?
>>"I like to speak to people" This won't be happening if you are the only one in the office.
Yep, that was the con I had hahahaha @mcalex
I see there are 2 closure votes as opinion based. I will clarify. This is not a question about what someone feels about remote working or what someone prefers, it is about the impact limiting to one or another has in landing a job, which in essence is not opinion based at all. Even if it is difficult to tell, there should be plenty of objective data about it, data that maybe someone here has contact or knowledge about.
@BWFC I would say it is most common in Europe's small cities, as the one I live in. In Spain there aren't really any suburbs, most people live in flats too... so cities are smaller in terrain. If you work inside the city, maximum comuting time would be 20 minutes by car, from one extreme (industrial park) to the other (exit of town on the other side).

@S.Dre if only there were some kind of union I could be part of that would allow me to work in any European city I wished. I'm in a small town, a short distance away from a big city so it's commute or nothing for me unfortunately. My employer offers flexible work post-Covid and that's three days in office with two flexible. I stay at home because I hate the commute. Maybe that's something to consider: just because they're offering remote work, it doesn't mean you have to take it?
Check if you can a coworking space. But I guess that if you live in an american suburb, you won't find it near your house...
I'm voting to close this question because being less flexible (in terms of where you work, or with regard to anything else) is always technically a drawback and shrinks your job pool, but it may be an acceptable drawback for you. Predicting how much of a drawback it would be in the specific field and location that you work, and predicting how this would change over the next few months and years, would be really hard to do. We also can't really tell you how easily you'd be able to adapt to remote work, or whether a coworking space would be an acceptable solution for you.
I think you will find that you are not alone: aka.ms/nfw
@BernhardBarker, true enough. Maybe I should change the focus of the question? Like how much of a shrink in job pool is right now?
@S.Dre Significantly changing the focus of the question after it's received this much attention isn't generally the best idea. It would invalidate a number of the answers. If it's a distinct question that hasn't already been addressed as part of this, asking a new question would be a better idea. There may be an on-topic question somewhere in there, but I'm not sure what that would be. That said, there's plenty of disagreement about what belongs here and what doesn't, and this question was well-received enough that it likely won't remain closed for very long if it ends up closed.

@BernhardBarker don't worry, I understand that the place must remain orderly. I'll keep it here as it was well received but I won't complain if it is closed.
No personal experience, but from all the articles I have been reading about businesses that are trying to cow workers back into the office, it might not be a problem much longer...
