never have i vibed with a nintendo character so much

3 hours later…
03:05
@lyxal no fucking way
now i'm wondering if that's actually where it came from or if it's just a beautiful coincidence

3 hours later…
06:26
I changed my opinion about cryptocurrency.
They're worthy enough only when one's government is shaking.
Indeed, they circulate actively in Venezuela, apparently.

Hello everyone.

4 hours later…
12:19
@lyxal just realized that the text in your GitHub location is not only upside down but also mirrored
well duh
thereby proving that you are actually Shadow Lyxal from the Dark Realm
what you expect me to read rtl?
12:46
@Ginger is that a bug?
(confirming it did actually post)
or is it just a result of messing around with timestamps?
@lyxal could you be more specific?
Toasty posted an antifreeze 3 days after it's last one
in the PLDI HNQ room
last I checked it was supposed to be 7 days
ugh, I know what's happened
and if I math right 3 != 7
Toasty will send an antifreeze message if either of two conditions are met:
- The last message in the room _sent by a non-feed user_ is over 7 days old, or
- The last message in the room was sent by a feed
which is not how it's supposed to work
so I guess I'm going to have to make yet another change to the antifreezer
13:17
Have you considered that 9 out of 10 doctors do not recommend eating antifreeze with your toast
I wanna be friends with the 10th one because that sounds like they're a goofy kinda doctor
My day:
1. Wake up and eat breakfast.
2. Go to computer.
3. Eat lunch.
4. Go to computer.
5. Eat dinner and sleep.
smh no time dedicated to launching nukes at random countries
Plan B initate.
Launching nukes...
Country set to Ohio.
Nuke launching in 1...
2...
3...
4...
5...
GO.
@lyxal There you go.
PFFT we sure love the US government
13:26
> Country set to Ohio
@RydwolfPrograms finally, some honesty
hmm, I wonder if Podzol can use SSH port forwarding to forward RCON
@Ginger Not tell anybody but I interrupted Plan B's protocol to send it to the US gov instead of Ohio
13:50
Okay it's honestly kind of sweet how worried my friend is about me flying a plane later today lol
@RydwolfPrograms That's a good sign.
@RydwolfPrograms 99.9% of the population who don't even read the TOS.
14:32
@lyxal didja do it?
In the small town of Norway Hoe, ice covers the ground and feets of all the people around. They all sit near one fire for warmth and eat what they have. They are catious, they have learned to avoid the sandwich-who-must-be-not-known, a word for the sandwich man.

When winter comes the sandwich man lurks, he looks at all the friends and fellows of the town he swallows, under fear he wins and under bravery he hides. Pure evil he is, so the sandwich man hunts and he likes to turn others into his sandwich men. Together they will cross the fire and let everyone to eat afar where the sandwich men
?????
@Ginger wdym?
what is that
Is that really a question to ask? Fiction that I made.
14:38
why'd you post it here?
Now that's a question to ask that I don't really have an answer to.
Do you like it?
14:58
I got college spam in the mail from UNC :p
I could go to college with Unrelated String :p
what a deal
In other news Texas A&M keeps tryna go on a date with me
Probably the most appealing of the three full-ride scholarships I've been offered but still not at all appealing lol
15:00
Well ig Tulsa's probably more appealing since it's a private school
...
Nailed it.
I kinda want to apply to Harvard just so I can get in and write them a rejection letter
@The_AH This is the kind of high-effort shitpost I approve of
It is not shitpost.
It is fiction that I wrote.
I was about to say that it seemed pretty serious to me :p
> a deliberately provocative or off-topic comment posted on social media, typically in order to upset others or distract from the main conversation.
It is not provocative and this is literally meant for off-topic discussions.
It wasn't meant to upset and there was no conversation going on at that time.
15:03
Eh that's not a very good definition
It's a compliment
That is Google's definition.
it was a joke lol
OH.
What do you guys think about that fiction though?
I think it fits very well into the genre I mentioned, and it's one I have respect for :p
that's definitely more tactful than my answer
15:04
Very along the lines of my "C418 torches his ex's car"
@RydwolfPrograms What genre?
a literary classic, that
@The_AH High-effort shitpost
I think it fits well into horror or classic fairytales.
so you wrote that 100% seriously?
15:05
Of course.
(I mean I'm assuming it's intended to be kind of silly given "Norway Hoe" and "Sandwich Man" :p)
apparently not?
I should have used other words...
"Norwaya" and "Snowman" might work.
Maybe.
Do you guys want more SERIOUS fiction.
The death stare.
TIL that ChromeOS opens the app selector thingy if you scroll up on the empty space between the app-selector-thingy button and the pinned apps
@The_AH It's likely nobody here would read it, fwiw
15:08
^
I don't really want any kind of fiction
if you insist on it you should probably go to Lit.SE
Not even Joe Biden erotic fanfiction?
okay, I'll make a special exception for that
I don't care though.
If nobody reads it.
unfortunately, I do
Why?
15:09
because if nobody reads it all it does is take up space and interrupt other conversations
If there is no conversation then...
Also one post doesn't take up much space.
It is like limited size.
And has (Read more) if it's too long.
it throws the whole conversation off
What if there is no conversation though?
it's like if you were talking to a friend about seeing a movie and somebody else showed up unprompted and started reading Finnegan's Wake
As an RO I'm going to intervene here and say The_AH is perfectly free to share their writing here
15:11
@RydwolfPrograms Wait really?
I'm sure 90% of the stuff I post here nobody cares about
lol
@Ginger But what if you were not talking to a friend and there was no conversation, nobody was talking?
A lot of what goes on here is people stream-of-consciousing on every topic imaginable
Including you, Ginger :p
fair enough lol
Let the first without sin random tangents throw the first stone
15:12
I trust your judgement; if you say it's fine then it's fine
Well will you guys read fiction about someone going through a time portal to a world where everyone is a cat and wants to eat the someone so the someone needs to find a stone which will allow them to create another time portal to go back.
However an army of eagles that look over the deadly cats are hiding the stone.
I should probably stop whining about new people tbh :b
It's natural, there was plenty of whining about you, and probably plenty of whining about me :p
the only person I have ever seen get chat norms right first try is Bbrk
can't say I blame yall, I would've complained about me when I first joined
this is also why I don't read old transcripts very often
@Ginger I think there've been a lot of lurkers who just kinda faded into existence here
15:14
Okay so what about my question?
I probably wouldn't read it, mostly just since that's not what I'm here for :p
Well yeah.
That makes a lot of sense.
I have a preview of SvelteChat btw.
so I've been looking into sshj's port forwarding mechanism and I think I can abuse use it to tunnel RCON over ssh
@Ginger Didn't you already say this?
who knows!
15:18
@Ginger This?
okay wth is happening to chat
I have no idea.
16:12
well, this has certainly been a day
I'm four questions away from finishing the CGT
So you can take it and discover your true genderâ„¢ on a normalized scaleâ„¢ for official purposesâ„¢
spicy
Spicy.
Actually I think 40 questions is plenty
16:58
@RydwolfPrograms remind me of the scoring mechanism it uses?
Two subscores, one based on the composition of your attraction and gayness, and one based on your predicted masc/fem-ness weighted by your nonbinaryness
wacky
it'll be interesting to see how it handles me
hmm...
it'll also be interesting to see the questions
"do you drink beer (y/n)"
Ginger I just uploaded a screenshot.
17:01
wrong room
Oh.
18:00
@RydwolfPrograms Wait what is this
I love taking silly online tests
Please can I take this CGT thing?
Haha.
> Research into advanced generation IV reactor types was officially started by the Generation IV International Forum (GIF) based on eight technology goals
...what genius put a Roman numeral in an initialism
@user Yes, just finishing up some UI
I want to really make a web game where you launch nukes.
And then it rates you morally based on the nukes you launched.
So like a morality score from 0 to 100.
Like, 100 if you manage to cause as little damage as possible, 0 if you hit a major city?
Yes.
Maybe there would be different plans.
Plan A launching nukes but other plans doing other dangerous stuff.
I want to tie it into an "mutated cat who escapes from the FBI and now will take revenge by launching nukes" story.
18:08
@lyxal The 10th Doctor is pretty goofy, yeah :D
@Ginger I doubt original writing would be well-received in The Reading Room. Maaaaybe Writing.SE, although I'm not familiar with their chat culture.
Writing Meta used to have monthly writing challenges, although those seem to have died off recently
(On the subject of writing: I've started to notice that many of my sentences are structured as "Clause 1, (but|although) clause 2" and it's bugging me a bit :P)
@DLosc Clause 1 and clause 2.
That too
Maybe I need to practice my asyndeton. I could take my cues from A Tale of Two Cities.
18:29
That seems important although not a lot of people are going to notice that.
See what I did there?
Forgot a comma? :P
No, "Clause 1 although clause 2".
Yeah, I was joking about you forgetting the comma after clause 1
Okay something unexplainable is happening.
In SvelteChat is is decoding the decoded post every refresh.
Using the last decode as it's decode target.
For some reason it's saving it?
Maybe I should do that on the client-side.
Not on the server-side.

Every time I reread about the natural nuclear reactor it amazes me
It's so cool, and the odds it happened are so low. Like how lucky are we that we ended up on a world with one?
considering the amount of time that it could've happened in, the odds are probably not to shabby
It's actually not a huge window tho. It can only happen when the U-235 concentration is right, which was only true for one period of time, and it's not really like the other conditions (the geographic structure of the area) change much with time
Also the fact that it managed to run for hundreds of thousands of years fees incredible to me
Like the fact that nuclear fission produces so much energy it could output hundreds of kilowatts for a hundred thousand years before it stopped is mind boggling
20:11
CMQ: does the Minecraft launcher's play button go "beep" or "kachunk"
there is only one correct answer
20:58
...i'd say "there's a sound for the play button?" but then i realized it's been years since i've actually used the minecraft launcher lmao
21:11
there isn't d:
what I'm asking is if the pressing animation looks like a "beep" animation or a "kachunk" animation
surely you understand
21:33
Duality of code golf
22:23
@Ginger you never told me that you had started a grammar checking business
22:57
I did?
23:26
that looks... suspiciously close to Grammarly lol
same logo even
23:43
thanks uni
very cool
