The description of Rust says nothing about memory safety, just "a modern alternative to nulls and a modern way of handling errors" (which is true but Rust is much better known for the borrow checker)
Rust manages memory in a completely different way. Saying it's a "modern alternative to nulls" would be no different from saying it's a "modern alternative to pointers". It's not nulls which make it different, but its memory management.
