Q: Slow wifi ubuntu 20.04 I'm getting only 20Mbps should be getting 300Mbps

DannySo after 4 hours of reading and trying to solve this on my own I do believe I have found the issue that's causing the slow wifi on my 2015 custom built PC. I'm pretty sure the issue is this, I think ubuntu is detecting the wrong wireless card, when I check in terminal what the wireless network is...

Just a FYI: ASUS doesn't make wireless chipsets, they get them from another manufacturer. In this case, the Realtek RTL8192CE. So this clears up about 90% of what you wrote about in your question. As far as the speed, are you sure you're not confusing Mbps and MB/s? What methods are you using to test the speed?
And what is your MTU? Available from ip link
Please edi your question to show the result of the terminal command: nmcli device wifi list Please disguie the BSSID (MAC address) with XXXX.
@Nmath I'm using this for the speed test speedtest.net . Megabits per second I'm not confused.
@waltinator ok I just did
@chili555 ok I just did
@waltinator Also please take look at the bottom of my post I added another question.
@chili555 take a look at the bottom of my post I added another question, I'm really confused on that one you'll see what I'm talking about. I'm using askubuntu.com on firefox on ubuntu 20.04 and I swear that is the one part I could not figure out how to do properly, I feel like askubuntu needs to explain things better.
If you have another question, please ask it separately if it's not immediately related to this one. If the question is about Ask Ubuntu, please ask on Meta. When editing, use the formatting tools or you can use markdown. askubuntu.com/editing-help#code. There's lots of information about how to use the site at askubuntu.com/help
Can you tell us about the capabilities and characteristics of your wireless network? What kind of router do you have? Where is your computer physically located in relation to the router? Is it in the same room? Are there any physical objects or other electronic devices between the modem and the wireless card? For example, if your wireless card is behind a metal PC case in a different room than your router, this can affect speeds. Because there are so many factors that can affect effective speed, you should also test using Ethernet just to rule out other factors

It appears that there are two instances of your connected router ARRIS-15D1, one with no encryption (very dangerous!!) and one with WPA2. Please set the router to WPA2-CCMP only and not any auto select method. Reboot the router and let us hear if there is any improvement.
@Nmath that new question I want you to look at does pertain to this directly so please read it carefully and answer me, you'll see that it does indeed have relevance to what we're talking about. So yes my computer is in a different room but I have an app on my smartphone that can check the wifi strength and the wifi strength is good where my PC is located I checked. I will check the ethernet connection speed tomorrow and get back to you.
Please copy/paste and format text instead of pictures of text. A picture (of text) can't be read on a text-only terminal, can't be copied from (edited, tried, and made to work), AND makes one take an action to even read your Question. Since we're all volunteers, some won't click. Please read askubuntu.com/help/formatting
Does this answer your question? Ubuntu 20.04 Wifi Keeps Dropping
See askubuntu.com/questions/1353705/… where I already solved this.
@waltinator hey disregard the whole "picture of text" thing it seems one of the mods here saw it and already fixed it because it appears to be working, I deleted the picture of the text. It's hard to explain but it seems a mod must have seen it and fixed the problem and then even deleted my text of my asking the question. No joke it seems a mod fixed it and then deleted the part where I was describing the problem lol, I'm being totally serious too. So all you saw was the picture without the paragraph where I described the problem and asked for a solution which confused you.
@Nmath Hey disregard that new question I had for you because it seems a mod must have already fixed it for me, I'm assuming a mod saw it and then went and fixed it, it was a little bug with the syntax

that's the syntax I use for displaying the output of the terminal commands, there was a bug with it but it appears the mods saw it and fixed it already. So disregard that.
@waltinator I appreciate the help but I've had enough for today so I'm going to continue with this tomorrow. I'll let you know if it works though.
I fixed it for you 😉 You can view the edit history to see the changes for an example how to use markdown formatting here in the future
