@CDJB Hmm, just saw this as a pinned message. Do you know what those 'previous responses' were? I looked at this paper on the use of chemical weapons in Syria, but it doesn't seem like a whole lot. Part of it reminds me of the trial for those suspected of involvement in the downing of MH17. You can have a trial, but you probably can't access the suspects.
Of course the chemical weapon reasoning might not apply, but other similar crimes probably will.

Q: America world police VS America world psychologist approach to Russian problem?

LifeInTheTreesQuestion: What approach by the USA government could have helped avoid the Ukraine wars? A point of no-return has been crossed which may lead to ethnic/ideological cleansing and genocide by the Russian state. It's the least desired outcome imaginable for the United States government. Given that Pu...

@JJJ I presumed he was talking about the missile strikes the US carried out on Shayrat Air Base in 2017 after chemical weapons were used in Khan Shaykun, and those that the US, the UK & France carried out in 2018 after the attack in Douma, as the question was asked in terms of whether the use of chemical weapons would mean NATO forces engaging in Ukraine.

@CDJB Ah yes. I don't really see that happening for now though. Even donating advanced weapons like fighter jets won't be as simple. You'd still have to train the Ukrainians how to use them. I just don't see us having many options for further pressure. Like with the oil / gas sanctions, Bill Maher had a great bit about those resources being fungible. Basically, we can annoy them a little bit, but in the end they'll just sell to China and we'll buy from other countries.

Q: What did Zelensky mean when he says Ukraine should have security guarantee?

Manish Kumar SinghIt can be heard that Zelensky demands a security guarantee from a 3rd country (like Germany, Turkey, France, Poland). So what does it mean. Suppose Poland agrees. Then does it mean that the next time Ukraine is attacked, Poland will join from Ukraine side. And how is this different from Budapest ...

Q: Why are Stinger Missiles and Javelin MANPADs not considered escalatory in war theater of Ukraine?

KiersThis is purely about military doctrine. Much effort has been made to avoid using US made fighter planes in the Ukrainian theater because that would be seen as "escalation" and lead Russia to try and target the US directly, we are told. However, the supply of Javelins and Stingers direct from th...
