Judging by the screenshots posted there, several other users simply committed once again - the second time with the correct account.

I keep seeing Unable to log in: No user found. I tried contacting the stack exchange tech support. They were very helpful, but don't have tools for manipulating area 51 specifically.

@GregoryNisbet Among the options I see here (while not logged in) are "log in" and "sign up". Did you try what happens after clicking on "sign up"?
In any case, maybe it's not that important - maybe it can be fixed later. (Since I thought that creating a new account associated with your other SE account would be relatively easy, I suggested to do it that way - and to avoid the need to ask for merging the accounts later.)
It seems that there are also some other users who simply use the 51/151 account.

Thanks for the notification Martin. I've reproduced the error but I don't know an easy way to fix it. It doesn't matter much anyway, so it's probably easiest to let it be.

Thanks. I logged out, which caused my unregistered account to disappear. I then signed up (I think?) and managed to create an area 51 account. I have 151 reputation, but my site-wide profile text was copied over to area 51, so I think that means my account was successfully linked. I didn't think to write down exactly what I did, but I did follow the instructions on the "you have 51/151 rep" question pretty closely.

Yes, it seems that your profile on area1 contains link to your network profile.
And also in the list of recently commiteted users I see you with higher reputation.
So it seems that it worked.
Which is good - I was out of suggestions. (If this did not work, I wouldn't be able to suggest some other way to go.)
I have to admit that I do not really understand how this association between area51 accounts and Stack Exchange accounts works.
