00:00
what noise? both of them have a problem, they seem to have been taken from behind a glass
is it so?
Hmm you mean the glare in the centre-right? Yes, I hadn't noticed, I guess you're right.
By noise I mean the grainy texture in dark areas.
The opposite of smooth.
the angles of the one on the left look better as well, as the lines are closer to being paralel to the sides of the picture
noises.. hmm
It is called noise.
You know what you see when you're looking at an old television that is tuned to nothing?
i think the texture comes from the material, not from the picture
Black and white dots moving rapidly in chaos?
00:03
the ground seems textured, like grains.. small rocks or something
Don't you feel one has more noise than the other?
Wow, I feel like I'm interrupting something seriously intellectual here!
And off topic.
you think the left one is more noisy?
I actually think the left one (top) has had some software processing done to reduce noise.
Hi David
00:05
@DavidWallace Oops! You've caught us.
Which picture do you consider better @David?
I'm looking at it on a tiny little laptop with quite poor resolution.
if you think the left one looks better, you'd only have to do some color balancing (increase red) and rotate it a little and crop, to get paralel lines
but i don't see a significant difference in noise
Three things strike me: 1.) colours; 2.) noise in dark areas; 3.) sharpness of details, like the metal things contrasting against the sky.
I can't comment on whether either of them has been airbrushed or gone through noise reduction software.
@DavidWallace Oh, you poor thing.
00:07
And the odd bit of dust on my screen doesn't help.
BRB.
what bothers me more than noise is that reflex
@DavidWallace They both come from phones. So if anything has been done, it must have been done automatically by the phone's camera program.
Do you feel that one is sharper than the other?
I'd say left, but it may be influenced by color. let me do some testing on photoshop
I agree, left looks sharper.
are you trying to find out if a camera is better than the other? or were they both taken with the same camera?
00:10
So on the whole I feel that the photo on the left is definitely better, though the difference is not that great.
However, the review considers the left photo (Galaxy SIII) worse than the right photo (Iphone 4S).
why?
No idea.
He doesn't explain why.
strange
I'd definitely chose the left one, but...
one must consider, the pictures were not taken from the exact same point of view,
this small changes in angle and distance may impact how the camera captures the light
it should have been precisely the same position
in the one on the right, with less color balance, the glass reflex is less perceptible
> All in all the GSIII camera has quite a few tricks up its sleeve, but if it’s simply a beautiful image you’re looking for, you may need to keep looking. Comparison shot between the Samsung Galaxy S III (left) and the iPhone 4S (right):
Perhaps they erroneously swapped left and right?
i'm not sure... this would be a terrible mistake
00:18
Yeah.
IP4s - camera 8MP, VGA front camera
GSIII - camera 8MP, 1.9 MP front camera
what does front camera mean? i don't understand this
is it 8 or 1,9 MP
The phone has two cameras.
One at the back, one at the front.
The one at the back is for taking good picture and videos.
The one at the front is to make video calls.
VGA is a resolution that can also be expressed in MP.
I don't know how much it is exactly, but very little.
VGA is 0,3 MP.
What kind of phone do you have? A dumbphone?
this provides some extra info on the cameras
yes, the simplest phone possible
That is the SII, but thanks.
Hehe.
I'm not buying any of those phones anyway.
I was just interested.
@Tames Why no smartphone?
someone commented in that site that GS's camera is way better than IP
waaaaay better, so he said
00:26
Haha.
It is a little bit subjective.
hhah
But I interpret that as that there isn't much difference between the two cameras.
They're both fine.
this is more professional
it is the exact same picture
at least so it seems
it seems that GS has better color, and this helps with sharpness as well
but this is not noticeable in all pictures
Hmm.
@Cerberus I don't know why not... I never liked phones.. i bought one some years ago and never changed it
00:32
Nice comparison pictures, but she has resized them!
Now we can't see details.
@Tames The idea is that you have access to internet and navigation and other things wherever you go.
My phone is from 2007, but it can do all that, although with effort.
Gigi and I want the Galaxy Nexus.
@Cerberus what should I need that for?
Well, suppose you are in the train and you want to check at what time your tram departs.
Or you want to send someone an email when you are somewhere else.
Or you are bored in the train and you want to listen to music or read the news.
I can't imagine an e-mail that is so urgent that I can't way to come back home to send it
It usually isn't, but it may happen once in a while.
when travelling, i always take books with me
00:35
But do you always, always take books with you when you're going to visit a friend who lives a 30-minute metro ride away?
The idea is that you never need to think about bringing anything: you always have your phone with you.
I understand.. when you have such a thing, you find uses to it, but it is not that you really need it... not that everything in life is necessity
Of course you don't need it like oxygen.
Just as you don't need a shower or a bed.
like, i don't need to get my nails painted, but I do it anyway
The question is: how much fun or comfort can they provide, and at what price?
at what price?
00:37
Well, a bed costs money to buy, and it takes up space.
Etc.
I'm asking how much such a thing costs, really
a GSiii
Oh haha.
hahah
A SGIII is around € 600 now, because it has just been released this month.
The Galaxy Nexus is from 2011 and it costs about € 350.
A low-end smartphone that you can still do all the things on that I mentioned would probably cost € 100.
But the screen will be small.

Q: h2owis or h3ewis

AnixxI wonder which variant of reconstruction of this word in PIE is the correct. The reconstructions presented here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schleicher%27s_fable give the first variant while Forston when introducing into Laryngeal theory gives the second one as an example. Similarly here: http...

00:39
hmm
I don't see myself buying one of those, but I guess they can be fun
Also very useful.
Navigation is very important to me.
i think i'd rather buy something to play games
You can play all games on those phones.
At least the newer ones are able to play tons of games.
There are emulators that will allow you to play lots of Playstation and Nintendo games on your phone.
i find them more appealing now!
Haha.
You're easy.
00:44
what do you mean with 'easy'?
You are easy to win over from your previous position, hehe.
it is that you are very convincing, mr.
Good, good.
are you selling those? lol
Haha, Cerberus often masquerades as a salesperson of digital devices.
00:47
So what do you do when you are visiting a friend, or going to some shop, and you're not exactly sure where it is? You could simply type the address into your phone, and it would show you a map and guide you there.
wow, magic!
@DavidWallace So the salesdog is my mask, and the real Cerberus is...?
You make sure that before you leave your home, you know where your friend's house is.
Or is it the other way around?
Or you go into a shop and ask for directions.
00:47
@DavidWallace Such a bother.
And what if you forgot because you were in a hurry?
Not as much of a bother as the cost of paying for a device that you don't need.
Or you didn't write the walking route down correctly?
Forgot to go to a shop and ask for directions?
There may not be a shop, or shops might be closed.
@DavidWallace Forgot to print a map.
Or whatever you do.
I was about to say that I have lived half my life without email access, then I realised that that wouldn't actually be true.
00:49
Heh.
@Cerberus Actually, one time I was due to visit a small town, and didn't trust myself to remember to check the address, I memorised the entire streetmap of the entire town.
So that when I found out the address, I would know exactly where it was.
13 mins ago, by Cerberus
Just as you don't need a shower or a bed.
13 mins ago, by Cerberus
The question is: how much fun or comfort can they provide, and at what price?
@DavidWallace Wow.
That must have taken some time.
It wasn't a large town. Maybe 15 streets altogether.
I would worry that I would not remember correctly.
What kind of phone do you have?
However, the person that I was going there with forgot the name of the street. We played an interesting guessing game to work it out, but eventually we found it.
00:52
That can be fun.
I have a very sophisticated Nokia 1100 (I think that's what it is). It's absolutely top of the line. Does everything.
It can also be a nightmare.
@DavidWallace Ah, I see.
So what is your take on smartphones?
My take is, why do I want one?
Is that all?
That's all.
00:53
Surely you have some pros and contras?
Hey, I have to go back to work now. We can discuss the wonders of unnecessary technology at some other time.
Bye.
Hehe OK.
Bye!
do you understand this, Cerb?
Haha, the Orkutless guy cannot be depicted, because...everyone has Orkut?
Which is ironic, because nobody has it?
I guessed that all the adjectives meant something like "bizarre, incredible".
hahah
01:04
I think the language is not the problem here if I don't understand the joke.
Because the meaning of the Portuguese seems clear enough.
the incredible man who doesn't have a bank account,
Yeah.
I got that.
the fantastic woman who doesn't have a cell phone,
the bizarre girl who hasn't got an e-mail,
And incredible means "one would not expect such a man to exist".
@Tames E-mail, not an e-mail.
the unbelievable man who is not on orkut
01:06
Yeah I understood all that.
what didn't you understand?
I wasn't sure whether I understood the joke.
3 mins ago, by Cerberus
Haha, the Orkutless guy cannot be depicted, because...everyone has Orkut?
3 mins ago, by Cerberus
Which is ironic, because nobody has it?
I am not familiar with what Orkut is exactly.
Some kind of website.
it is like facebook
And nobody uses it?
something like.. when you google for someone, there's a facebook page saying "this person is not on facebook, invite him/her..."
everybody uses it!
it was much more popular than FB in Brazil, some time ago
it is like.. this guy does not exist, because he is not on FB (orkut)
01:10
Ah OK, so it is not ironic.
So my first interpretation was the right one.
i guess he is kind of ironic, but all over. not only in that case
because this persons are considered freaks
the modern freaks (or post-modern..)
I know all that.
I just didn't know how popular or unpopular Orkut was.
do you enjoy taking pictures?
Eh I seldom take any. You?
I used to take a lot of pictures.. I had tons of them, but one day I put them all on a pendrive, because I was cleaning my pc, and my pendrive burned.. i lost archives of many years of photographs.... I guess my enthusiasm for pictures has diminished ever since. but i do some once in a while. i'm trying to find some to show you
01:19
Oh no!
That is terrible.
How did you burn it?
pfff
You know, if you save your pictures in a Dropbox folder, they will always be automatically backed up to the internet.
@Tames Oh, very artistic/
I guess what happened was... I had this pendrive on my backpack, I had gone to the gym and I had some humid clothes on the backpack.. I was walking around under the sun, and I guess some water evaporated and reached inside the pendrive, when i plugged it, it burned
I love it how the wood is so highly defined and everything else is blurred
Oh, that's horrible.
Do you back up your important files now? How?
I should
I should buy an external hd probably
01:24
@Tames How many GB of important files do you have?
Roughly.
probably not more than 2GB
OK, then make a Dropbox account. Wait one sec.
@Tames Wow, very nice flare effect.
You're quite a pro!
@Tames Do you have a Gmail account?
I'm much more experimental than pro
that effect came from small drops of water in the glass
01:28
Go here.
yes, I have a g-mail
Download the Google Drive application.
It will take two minutes to install, and then all your important files will be backed up automatically and safely.
nice
If some files are very private (you don't want Google to have them), encrypt them first.
what kind of pictures do you like?
01:34
I don't know. Architecture and landscapes, I think, and people/things I know, of course.
I'm a simple guy.
*dog
@Tames Have you installed Drive yet? stern schoolmaster look
you are not simple, you are triple!
Wow.
this is Florianópolis, a famous city here
I didn't know the sea could be so blue!
@Cerberus no ó_ò I'll do it right now
01:37
@Tames Yes!
A typical Dutch beach.
Except that the sky should be grey.
Great.
Looks very tropical.
And you do have a lot of rain!
Over 50 % more than here!
And 120 % more than London!
Why are the English always complaining about the weather, while there is much better than mine, let alone yours?
you mean.. in Curitiba?
120% more than London?
Yes.
You have 1400 mm/year.
We have 900.
o_o
01:43
London has 600.
It's all on Wikipedia.
I told you this was a a very humid city,
So how is your installation progressing? Almost finished?
very stern look
and you said "we complain about the weather all the time too"
hahaha
installing!
We do! But the English as our masters.
@Tames Good!
01:47
Wow, good camera.
Is the installation complete?
Have you pointed it to the right folder to back up?
yes, I'm logging in
not a great camera, but it works well
it is only 5MP
Panasonic LUMIX
i think something is wrong
i click on "start synchronazing" but i didn't chose the folder..
or do i choose it now
oh
Does it work?
I'm trying to figure out how
do I have to copy my folder to the google folder?
There are three options: 1.) you pick your own folder as the Google folder: I think that is possible in settings.
2.) You copy your folder.
3.) You make a hard link, so that your folder will be in two places at once.
hm
there's a small icon in the bottom of the screen, and it says "not connected"
how can I connect it, I click on it and nothing happens
01:54
Hmm have you filled in your Gmail address and password somewhere?
I must admit I don't use Drive myself.
hm
Perhaps you need to configure your Firewall?
I have no idea what your computer looks like and what's on it.
how do you store your precious files?
I have Dropbox and an external drive.
Is it working yet?
I dragged and dropped, it seems to be uploading
02:02
Ah!
no more stern glazes, please!
So is the "not connected" icon still there?
lol
yes, it says not connected..
@Tames Don't worry, you're a good girl now.
@Tames And yet it is uploading?
Strange...
o.o
02:03
Can you go to your Google Drive online?
See whether any files have been uploaded yet?
it seems to be working, yes, it shows some stuff online
Yay!
thank you
Thank Google.
Now several data centres would have to burn down at the same time as your hard drive for your files to be lost.
this is me 20 years ago
yes, i guess the files are safe now
02:11
Aww sweet!
this is some fractal old dried pea soup in a plate. doesn't it look just like a mandelbrot set?
it is a pity that it lacks resolution
I guess I should be going, gotta get up early tomorrow to go to the gym
@Tames Oh haha, that's funny.
@Tames OK, good luck getting up, and good luck going to the gym!
thank you
good night
c ya
Eh thanks, you too!
Bye!
:)
02:22
Haha.

Q: Are there any languages where the genitive case changes according to its object?

cbrandolinoIn forms like Claudio's house or Claudio's dogs, are there languages in which the Claudio's would change depending on gender and number of the houses or dogs?
