Not so much so that you can use them yourself; but rather so that you'll understand them when native German speakers say them, and so that you can avoid using them when it would be inappropriate to do so. The problem is that the list is too long and somewhat daunting. It would be really nice to find a list like this, but ordered by how important or how common each idiom is, rather than ordered alphabetically.

Or alternatively, a list that has a usefulness score next to each idiom.

You could design some software that would do it. Take a list of idioms, do the n-Gram magic on each one, and sort them by the result.
