@ThomBlairIII I guess it might be because such a thing does not really exist yet, and linguistics as a science looks at languages that exist in reality, rather than languages we can conceive of (but do not as yet exist).
@ThomBlairIII It's also generally agreed upon in linguistics that humans are the only species capable of language, so people might not appreciate the suggestion of an animal developing language.
We have a very specific list of necessary conditions for a system to be called 'language', much as biology has a similar list defining 'life' - and no other communication system other than human language even comes close to our definition. You might want to Google Hockett's design features for more info - I mentioned one of the briefly in a reply to your other question.

@WavesWashSands Hi! Thank you very much for the clarification.

@Thom BlairIII I only see one downvote and one upvote on your question. I was going to downvote and closevote it as off-topic since linguistics is the scientific study of (human) natural language which your question wasn't bout, but according to our definitions in the help center it's just the "study of languages", so I thought it unfair to downvote/close vote - but I could imagine that the other user who did downvote considered it off-topic for the same reasons as I did.

@lemontree Interesting! So, basically, a lot of linguistics deals mainly with existing human languages only, and anything else is not widely recognized as proper linguistics, it's more controversial as to whether or not it can be termed linguistics?
@lemontree That helps! Where would you suggest I discuss topics like the ones I brought up, about possible languages, possible styles of communication and theory?
Is there a field of scientific study that is more involved with that kind of thing? Or is it simply relegated to fiction writers?
Who studies animal communication or possible languages?
Theoretical languages?
