hi Emma :3
haiiiiiiiiiii :3c
04:35
@rydwolf oh, this is interesting
04:50
@rydwolf ???
@Redz presumably,
Nomic is a game created in 1982 by philosopher Peter Suber, the rules of which include mechanisms for changing those rules, usually beginning by way of democratic voting. The game demonstrates that in any system where rule changes are possible, a situation may arise in which the resulting laws are contradictory or insufficient to determine what is in fact legal. Its name derives from the Greek for "law", νόμος (nomos), because it models (and exposes conceptual questions about) legal systems and the problems of legal interpretation. == Gameplay == All aspects of Nomic are variable; the players can...

@lyxal thanks
I am overly happy about the fact that Mao and Bartok are the first on see more

I've had a few ideas for tcg mechanics
1. Each user card could have a normal power, RO power, and mod power rather than independent abilities
This leads to
2. There can be a current room in play, and you can play room cards as either rooms you own or to change the current room
Rooms would have different buffs or debuffs
3. There could be diamond tokens that enable a user to use their mod power. Some user cards would start with said token when played
How you obtain diamond tokens I don't know but there could be a variety of ways such as an election event, a "steal diamond" event, etc
That leads to
4. Event cards.
Effectively spell cards in yugioh (i used to be a dualist btw)
5. Item cards. E.g GH perks would be an item card
That's all for now
08:00
Addendum: items can be equipped to user cards
And can have buffs when attached to specific users
E.g item {name: "Github Perks", effects: [{effect: "When equipped to ginger", description: "strong buff"}, {effect: "when equipped to other user", description: "weaker buff"}]}
6. Anyone can block an action from happening (like a just say no card from monopoly deal) by raising a chat flag or flagging for moderator regardless of turn
If raising a chat flag, it has to be approved by everyone else who has a user with (some number of rep simulating 10k) rep or more
If flagging for mod, the player can either resolve the flag themselves if they have a mod user card (but this would cost hp/rep from the approving mod) or get another player with a mod user card to decide
But be careful because the other player could decline or ban the player from raising future flags
Adding a bit of social strategy
It'd need some balance if it's a 2 player game (and chat flags would probably have to be disabled)
Speaking of which, how many players?
7. Some event cards could require the player to be an owner of the current room or have a mod user
09:06
@lyxal I have an idea for that, you could appoint/remove other users as room owners to receive a double benefit of some sort or take power away with a slight negative
maybe there can be a mechanic around freezing rooms (and thus applying a debuff to that room's owner) or applying antifreeze
tokens to add qualities to a room too, such as active users
TCG is already a thing now?
apparently we're all really enthusiastic card game nerds
apparently we're all really enthusiastic card game nerds
ooh temporary kicking users from rooms could be a turn skip
what else can you do
move messages? moving card effects to a different room?
there would have to be a set number of rooms that you can change between according to cards
Nuking has to be implemented
09:12
special locations
i.e. lyxal's fridge and the castle seen in SE Nitro
this is such a great idea
Tbh I have never played pokemon
seeing deleted messages could be related in some way to expired message buffs/effects
or any other trading card game frankly
I've only played trading card games a handful of times but they're always really fun
Editing messages is an interest aspect
Gives me time travel-ish vibes
09:15
lyxal moment
editing messages could apply debuffs to other players
Hmm yeah
I feel like this is a lot of stuff for rooms surely we need some main site content as well
the ask/answer mechanic could pop up somewhere as a sort of trading cards/hands/effects
mutual benefit
I don’t exactly see how we could tie in posting challenges/answering questions with the game
Oh
i got ninjad
that is the first time I have witnessed someone saying 'ninja'd' in a long while nice
@mathscat I guess since SE Nitro revolves mainly within chatrooms and on grounds
it didn't really have much asking/answering questions present in the comic
@Redz room time out
09:23
rooms and special locations being the main areas of the game might be more fitting in regards to lore
ooo room time out could force everyone to temporarily lose all effects from the room and move to a different location for at least that number of turns
I was thinking it could be all non ROs skip a turn or can't play any cards
good point
I need to brush up on my room owner knowledge smh
As like an actual room time out
Any ideas for win condition(s)?
on that note then player user cards would have to have either regular user, RO, mod or special status
are we going Season 1 Edition and just involving CGCC? because I feel like involving two sites makes it way more complex
@lyxal most rep left?
Ideas I have include message stars and having x amount of mods to control a site
@Redz yeah those could be tokens with each user having a dedined effect
09:31
...dedined -> dedicated?
Defined
Did I really misspelt that?
Gosh dang
So like {username: "Lyxal", abilities: {normal: "...", RO: "...", mod: "..."}}
Where each gets more powerful
I concur
There could also be counter cards which don't require user cards or so
Like things you don't need to set down to play
@lyxal I assume different users get different abilities
Or just don't beat around the bush and have straight up trap cards
@Redz yeah
09:40
I also feel like at any point in time users could have a specific status, like if you're RO you can play RO and normal abilities but not mod abilities
Also, bot/sock accounts wouldn't have a mod ability
and there could be some way to change status
@Redz yeah that's what I was thinking
presumably not an RO ability either
Well they can have ro abilities
Vyxal Bot for example
09:41
fair point
I was mostly talking in terms of best site practice
We typically don't want bots or socks being mods
I agree with that sentient
that did not english whatever
so is this CGCC-focused? because then specific code-golf related stuff might be a thing
Well apparently pldi is also canon
I'd say that other sites could be extension packs
yeah but it's only canon starting from Season 2
and I feel like there's not enough context for that yet
Let cg be the base theme
09:54
We need a Google doc and a shared spreadsheet for this :p
One for the rules and one for planned cards
that's super fair
I'll start adding to it once I get back from labs but neat
10:42
@Redz :P
The craziest thing just happened
so I'm sitting here solving informatics problems right and the fire alarm goes off
we all go and stand outside, kind of confused, one person was sleeping, another had literally got out of the shower three minutes ago
turns out? someone burnt toast
they unplugged the toaster but there was apparently a piece of bread left inside
so it burned to an actual crisp and smoked out the whole room
and now we're there, standing on the sidewalk, watching as the fire department arrives - literally, full-blown fire department, with a fire truck and full uniforms and a hose
then we get told we can come in
and I walk into the room and see three very professional-looking fire department people walking out with two. pieces. of. completely black. toast.
it's actually hilarious like it's one of those situations where you should feel mildly unconvenienced but it's so funny
This feels like straight out of a comedy skit
Was this like right now?
10:58
yes
RIGHT. NOW.
“you get fined if the fire ppl come but there’s no fire”
“wait so we should cause a fire” — tutor from camp, ioi gold medallist.
optimal solution
fun 10pm type activities
actually crazy
why do people like making toast at like late at night
leave that kind of thing for the day dipnits
@Redz woah yall just have ioi gold medalists roaming around freely
we were playing Avalon and Bartok and eating toast
@mathscat no this is at December Camp
11:01
@lyxal Soup and toast is a good combination tho
yeah not at 10pm
it is
during the day, sure, but not at late o'clock
@lyxal Do yall read time upside down over there, too?
sometimes
11:03
oh well
I enjoy a warm soup before dinner now and then
yeah at dinner time
not at "people are trying to sleep" time
disrupting people with the smell of toast
@Redz I'm pretty sure they're all locked in basements around here. I've never even met an informatics olympiad participant either
fair
no clue why it isn't as popular here tho
@lyxal you have a point
11:06
I know I do
I wouldn't have made it otherwise :p
@lyxal it's downstairs in the fashioned dining hall
still
evidently, people can't be trusted with toast at late times
no like downstairs downstairs
you have to go down steps and outside, then inside the main building again
it's a college
@lyxal We should have a "lyxal" button next to the star
toast trust plummets at night time
11:07
Might be a fun userscript tbh
people should not be toast making at night time
The lyxalboard
it's like one of the laws of the universe
toast at a time that isn't a normal toast time is problematic
no we need the energy
it's rule number 34
11:08
playing avalon with informaticians is the equivalent of a 5-hour exam (which we already had a 3-and-a-half one in the morning)
google toaster rule 34 for more info (don't do that)
I remember TNB made me google that
...why did I search it up
my eyes filtered out the don't do that
relatable
okay well those memories are going into a heavily locked compartment at the back of my head
with added encryption and a heavy dose of hard info problems to take my mind off of it
11:11
gee that bad
Good luck with that
(doubt)
I'm currently searching through SE Nitro and adding names to the Trading Nard Bame card list
@Redz use this to help:
I think I've taken enough lyxal advice for one day
also that looks just strange in general
pitch meeting is a really good series
11:13
Pitch meetings are tight
good comedy
@mathscat wow wow wow. wow.
wow
Yeah those are super easy, barely an inconvenience
@lyxal this is a pretty good introduction to the pitch meeting series imo
okay I think everyone's names - all comic names - are in there
shall now attempt to sleep
