Genshin is quite above average in term of game quality (yep, even with all the artifact related rants, have you ever even read about the usual gacha trash like Dragonball Dokan, One Piece Treasure Cruise, the various Final Fantasy gacha games etc?)
Genshin does not force you to use specific characters to counter enemies in events tailored for the new gacha units, nor does force you to get at least 5 new units every second week to stay competitive and be able to complete events.
It as lore, actual story, animated cutscenes/dialogue (so no cutboard - visual novel stile stuff), open world etc.
On that side alone, quality is on a whole different level that many games that are still considered "good gacha" like Azur Lane, Fate Grand Order etc.
On the greed scale... it could be somehow better than others. While constellations exists, you CAN live with C0 and be happy. Many games basically requires you to "level break" the unit with dupes (coff coff Dokan...)
I never bothered to look up for some comparisons but prices seems to be on average level - which is obviously still as bad as it can get. But.. that is the definition of gacha.
Don't buy gems, just buy a welkin if you really want to give some money (5$ month is on par with an online game subscription, one could tolerate the expense). Accept you won't get everything and live with it.
Take the serenitea - a month in and we don't know yet WHAT they are doing and WHY it was so urgent that the fix couldn't be done on development servers and only be applied when complete.
